Tbh I don't think this'll be a #1 debut. I didn't even find out about it until a couple hours ago, and from what I've heard it took longer than usual. Plus, there's the release of What About Us, and the discounts of Despacito (original) and Wild Thoughts. It won't regardless. Today's sales activity will count for the 9/2 chart, plus any weekend airplay. Sales tracking period ends today. It will get a low debut and work its way up

Why does it feel like JB has low-key released the same song like 6 times since 2015? Because he has lol

I can definitely see top ten It should definitely jump to the Top 10 next week, and with great airplay gains and consistent sales I see it staying there or at least close for a while. Unlike Malibu which died in sales early on and couldn't earn airplay for the life of it. Pink seems to be doing alright. TBH Malibu was kind of boring lol But Pink has always had some type of longevity if my memory serves me right

I like Bieber's Friends, I wouldn't mind if this could unseat Despacito.
The overall chart movement is boring so this longest #1 record thing is the one keeping me interested lately

Luis Fonsi just performed Despacito on Good Morning America so he is not giving up that #1 position easily Is GMA a big factor when it comes to sales? I don't live in the USA so I don't really know but isn't it a morning show, is it still that huge? Yeah it's a morning show, so not really a big factor but it has a different audience that may likely buy on iTunes And well just the fact that he performed it live on TV show still gives the song exposure especially now that the song is on the cusp of tying /breaking a chart record

I don't understand why the label isn't discounting the remix version of Despacito. That would help break the record along with a performance on the VMAs which I don't think will happen.

A big sales debut around 200k is imminent.

Miley Cyrus also released a new single today. No surprise Taylor release, but I really do feel like she's coming any day now.
Rachel Platten also released today, but does anyone actually care? :kii:

RIP Despacito. Friends has higher sales, even with both versions discounted.

Now, I know that it's looking far into the future, but if Friends would break the record... I wouldn't have anything against it, as it's a great song.

RIP Despacito. Friends has higher sales, even with both versions discounted. How is it Rip Despacito? It's a brand new song by JB. If it didn't have higher sales it would've been a massive problem. And tbh it's not exactly lighting up ITunes. Less than 20% ahead of Despacito. It's probably not gonna challenge for number one.

Thursday's sales count for this chart. It will probably. Debut now around #90. Next week it will have the same problem that P!nk had. Week two will not include day one activity where sales were at the highest. Not only is week 15 locked up it appears 16 is good too.

Wild Thoughts +0.9M Despacito -2.0M TWIL -0.0M SOY -0.9M Unforgettable +1.2M Bodak Yellow +1.9M
What a great radio update today. The good songs are either stable or gaining. The old, trying-to-break-records songs are dropping faster.

I find it interesting that so many people think that 16 week+ number 1's will be the new trend based on a few songs doing really well in recent years. Will streaming continue to be a strong force in the coming years? What if Billboard tweaks its formula to give less points to streaming? What if there's a new component of consuming music that results in more turnover on the charts? There are so many unknowns that can't be accounted for and we've seen time and time again that the new norm is only the new norm until it isn't (ex. digital sales huge decline in recent years). Even if some new format comes along, those take years to truly make an impact on the chart; look at how long it took downloads to take over, and then streaming. What we do know with streaming is that songs have a lot of longevity on that component, so to that end songs will be charting longer (potentially including #1s). It's valid to at least consider that the average time songs spend at #1 will be longer.

Despacito falling like a rock on radio; Spotify streams steadily declining; the remix being discounted isn't doing much.
That 17th week isn't guaranteed.

I know Despacito is a monstrous hit, but I'm sad that neither Uptown Funk nor Closer could prepare to compete against See You Again/Black Beatles . The Chainsmokers knew that Starboy's album would be released in its 16th week at #1, so they probably were planning a discount or a remix. UF would get to 17 weeks without a discount, maybe 19-20 if they put on discount for weeks. You need competence to be good, but to be great you'll need a lot of lucky.

Despacito falling like a rock on radio; Spotify streams steadily declining; the remix being discounted isn't doing much. That 17th week isn't guaranteed. The only songs with real upward momentum are Friends and Bodak Yellow. Friends isn't doing to good on sales to get that number one, and Bodak is getting beat in all categories. 15 weeks is locked, 16 weeks is looking good and unless that wild thoughts challenge actually does something or Taylor drops some heat, the record is looking pretty good

I wouldn't exactly say Despacito is falling like a rock on radio lol but weeks 15 and 16 do seem very likely

I'm truly loving the angst as the true threat faces a song that may have the record, but is rarely played and is not even in Top 5 of most recognized songs by MC. Records are made to be broken - that's why many of us enjoy chart-watching. No record is sacred. Remember OSD was in an era when many key songs were not released in physical format, so like several other longrunning songs in the 90s, it's true chart impact is probably overstated.
