"Fireflies" and "Get On Your Boots" are both in my top 50. The latter in particular speaks volumes about my opinion of this year.
IMO, this is easily the worst year we've done in these rankdowns so far. It's not even close to being as good as 2013, and while 2017 has been underwhelming, it still hasn't produced as much utter garbage as 2009. And yes, I do think Imagine Dragons as a whole are better than Theory and Nickelback. "Believer" would be in my top 40 if it was on this list, and while "Thunder" would be a bottom dweller, it's not quite as awful as "Hate My Life". As for the two Judah singles, they wouldn't exactly fare well, but they'd probably make it out of the bottom 10, and rank above the Nickelback and Theory entries.
That said, my top 30 is all good stuff, and 31-40 are solid too.

Those aren't Powerball numbers. That's the chart run for "Get on Your Boots"
As bad as this year is, 2008 is arguably worse, with AC/DC, Guns 'N Roses, Katy Perry, top 10 hits for Theory of a Deadman, Saving Abel, Nickelback and Atreyu... but I do see a very strong Top 15 as well, the bottom drops out even faster there than 2009.
At least we avoided "I Love College" being in the Top 100 for 2009.

Katy Perry charted on alt in 08??? And I Love College is a great song... It was, admittedly, a version made specifically for Alternative, but yes, probably because back then, she was a nobody who was best known for being friends with pop-punk/nu-metal bands like P.O.D. and Relient K, so she had Alt cred there I suppose. "I Love College" is awful and only charted on Alt because it sampled Weezer's "Say It Ain't So".

Well, lets just say that I hope that I Love College escapes bottom 5 in 09 Billboard Rankdown...

Speaking of "Fireflies". Does anyone here recall this song being that bad? I mean What the actual Fuck here. I almost lost my Tom Petty avatar, listening to that crap. Anyway, I'm going to tie an anchor to that song and watch it slide down this list, and hope for the best from the rest of you? Songs from Tinkerbell's ipod shouldn't be an an Alternative year end rankdown. WTF were we thinking back then?

I'm ready for Puddle of Mudd to be bottom 10. Absolutely hate this band. More than Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman, Buckcherry, Saving Abel, Hinder, etc.

Don't get me wrong, janinho, I think "Viva la Vida" sucks pretty bad, but not as bad as two of the five worst Alt #1s ever

Ehhhhhhh...it's not a good song, but I get nostalgic feelings whenever I listen to it. There's nothing to get nostalgic about with... that abomination.

Viva la Vida is surely not the worst Alt #1 of all time. ''Higher'' by Creed is a good competitor for that title.

"Viva la Vida" isn't the worst. I don't know if it's in the bottom 25. "Higher" definitely is, though.

Of course you of all people would like that song Whats so bad about that song? 316 BUTTERFLY Crazy Town #1 for 2 weeks, 26 weeks on chart [2001]
So, what's the absolute worst song to top the Alternative charts, ever? Well, it's this complete crapfest of a song that had no place on the chart at all. Even in the peak of nu-metal, there was no song worse than Crazy Town's "Butterfly", which was all rap and no rock. From its absolutely s**tty hormone-influenced lyrics ("Such a sexy, sexy pretty little thing , fierce nipple pierced you got me sprung with your tongue ring") to the sample of a Red Hot Chili Peppers song MUCH better than this one, "Butterfly" does nothing right. How did radio let a bunch of horny, crappy rappers go #1 when "One Step Closer" was stranded behind it?

More than Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman, Buckcherry, Saving Abel, Hinder, etc. It's definitely one of the worst #1's ever (along with "Butterfly"), but I'm not entirely sure it will be in my bottom 10.

Butterfly is pretty much garbage. But worst #1 ever? I don't remember what I said was the worst but Beverly Hills immediately comes to mind.

A post with a different font...you may know what that means. If you don't...get ready for the most popular part of any of my rankdowns. BUT FIRST, let's talk about how we're going to do these for this particular rankdown. For the rock chart rankdowns, I will not be doing these for every submission. As of right now, I will do them after every three submissions. Why? Because, unlike the other rankdowns I have been doing, we're dealing with 100 songs here, not 40, so it just takes longer for me to update everything. And besides, it's better to get one of these posts every three submissions than not at all, you know? Maybe as we get closer to the deadline, I'll go back to the "update after every ranking" model, but, for now, this is how we're going to do things.
Now, with that having been said, it's time for the first-ever rock chart rankdown version of the B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! The first couple of rankings were submitted by THE ENTIRE PLANET EARTH (or just the former Bangwave/former Garmonbozia/Tom), wheat, and Moose. I can't tell you all that much, of course, without spoiling what songs are where, but I can tell you a couple of things...
- There are six songs that have been in every top ten so far. It's early, but that's still a remarkable number for a rankdown this big and varied. If I had to guess, at least two of these six songs will end up in the final top ten, too. - Three songs have been in every bottom ten from the beginning. One of them is in much, MUCH better shape than the other two. (Again, though, it's early. ) - Almost twenty songs still have less than 100 points. - There is a song on the cusp of the top ten that is surprising the hell out of me. That's all I'll say. - And, just because a ballot update would feel naked without them after formally introducing it in the Muse rankdown, let's end this first update with Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...

deep breath We have ties at #14, #19, #22, #26, #30, #34, #38, #40, #43, #46, #49, #58, #60, #66, #77 (which is a three-way tie), and #87. And exhale.
