Pulse Rankdown: 2009 Year End Alternative Chart

SPREADSHEET

1) PM me (that's Red) the top 100 Alternative songs of 2009, all ranked to your preference. (e.g. if you like a song the most, you rank it the highest and vice versa.)
2) As with every other yearly rankdown, the points a song has will be totaled up based on an inverse point system. So, if you rank a song #100, it gets 1 point, and if you rank a song #1, it gets 100 points. All the points from the participants will be totaled up.
3) The due date for submission is Saturday, November 4th, at 10PM US Eastern Time.
4) ALL songs must be ranked.

HEY GUYS! Red here, filling in for Daryl while he's on his internship, which will occupy his time from mid-October all the way to mid-February. During that time, there will be a revolving door of guest rankdown hosts who will be taking over rankdown duties for the Alternative and Active rankdowns during this period of time. We've got a good group of hosts lined up for these, as you'll see, so I think it's safe to say that these rankdowns are in good hands for the foreseeable future. And then, when Daryl comes back, we'll all be kicked to the curb.

(I'm just kidding, Daryl, I know what the plan is after you come back!)

Unlike Rowell, I probably don't need to introduce myself to you guys. You know me. I'm that guy that likes Muse (and rankdowns) way too much. I've also had rankdown hosting experience under my belt (the first Journey Through Time), and, with the Muse rankdown set to be revealed well before the deadline of this rankdown, the one thing that I'm not too sure about (multi-tasking) likely won't be an issue here, so you'll have my full, undivided attention. I've even considered the possibility of bringing something over from my other rankdowns to spice things up a bit in between the beginning of this thread and the reveal process. Oh yes...*drumroll*...I'm talking about the ballot updates. Note: I'm considering it. It's not a guarantee that I will be doing them for this rankdown. But it would be a bit weird for there to be a Red-hosted rankdown without ballot updates, right? We'll revisit this, I assure you.

Alright, it's time for a year that actually holds a near and dear place in my heart: 2009. This year, in particular, was dominated by songs spending a stupidly long time on the chart, including multiple long-running Kings of Leon songs and the single longest-running charting song in the history of the Alternative chart (which is making a repeat appearance). And if you guys thought that there were quite a few Active-leaning songs on the 2010 Alt chart...well, you haven't seen anything yet. The lines are about to blur.

All of that having been said, I can't wait to find out with the rest of you what songs will rule the roost in this rankdown.

This list is weaker than 2010 and 2011, which is a shame, but 2013 and 2017 easily are worse. The top 15 for this is awesome, but the bottom falls out quickly. Still, you can't try and pretend that Judah and Imagine Dragons are any better than Nickelback and Theory of a Deadman

I'll probably be submitting a list for this! I'll start listening once I'm done with Daryl's rankdown.

Also I know I was complaining about how most of 2010's top ten felt very predictable and was too similar to billboard's top ten, but with a top ten this strong I'd honestly have no problem with similar results. Already I see two songs that made the top ten on the year end list that will likely make the top ten on my list as well, one more that could also sneak in, and then several others that will be solidly in my top 50.

Oh wow, I didn't even realize Fireflies had charted on alt. Knowing this crowd it should have no problem making the bottom ten, and I could actually see it making the #100 slot though I think that'll be occupied by yet another awful active crossover.

We're all talking about how inappropriate "Fireflies" is on this list, how about "Gives You Hell"? That was a band that hadn't charted on Alt in six years and had just scored four straight CHR top 10s, all of which missed Alt - it debuted on Alt a month before it hit #1 on CHR, so it must have already been in the top 5. That's an odd case of Alt playing a definitive Pop hit.

I didn't care for that All -American Rejects song one bit. They used to be one of my favorite bands until that crap song. "I Wanna" was the only one I liked, until the "Kids in the Street" era.

BTW, I've seen a lot of crap about "Get On Your Boots". I hope that one doesn't get tanked, cuz there are so much other worse songs here. I even see some Hollywood Undead on this list.
