56. 20 The Naked And The Famous - Higher (6 for 2 weeks) (2017) 6-16-offNext is the Naked and Famous. This is a band charting for the first time ever on one of my year end charts. The funny thing is, that it's with a song that totally missed the mark on the Actual Alternative charts. For me , it had that perfect, atmospheric, female sung ,synthpop vibe that I love. Think of the current Echosmith songs , like "Future Me" or "Get Into My Car". That melodic 80's vibe with big vocals. Works for me every time.

55. 23 Katy Perry - Chained To The Rhythm feat Skip Marley (9) 50-47-44-40-37-35-34-33-34-36-32-30-27-26-25-23-20-16-13-11-10-9-12-offSpeaking of Synthpop. This year Katy Perry released an amazing Pop song with that vibe in mind. Probably my favorite Katy Perry song, since "Last Friday Night", and that has been a while back. The lyrics of "Chained To The Rhythm" reminded me of some perfect Utopian world where everything seems to be perfect, but in reality everyone is just living their lives on autopilot. A scary thought, but I know many people who live like this. The Music Video is also one of the best visual ones I've seen for a song this year. This isn't the first ,or last time I'll be charting Katy Perry on one of these year end charts. I just hope she writes more songs like these in the future.Peak: 9Wks: 23

I love this band. They have a Powerballad vibe on many of there songs, yet they are not a powerballad band. They fall more into the Alternative Metal tag, but all the while keeping a great melodic style to their music. This song took it's time climbing up my chart, and when the coast was clear rose to the top 10 for a big four week stay. My sleeve for the song has little to do with the song's theme, but I love that Lion looking up to the sky gazing upon that new tomorrow.Peak: 9Wks: 21

I've been charting their songs since 2012 when they were a four man band. I have also had the pleasure to see them play live a couple of times. There sound is pure 80's, but they claim their inspiration comes the Cars, and you can clearly hear it in songs like this. Another great aspect of this band is the newest lineup. It's still Abulon on lead vocals, but now he is backed up by a four women ensemble. One guitarist, One on bass, one on synths and of course ,Zette Voltage, who has been on skins since their start. They have also just released a music video for "Crimen" , the song I was planning to chart this 2018. Wanna get to know the band's lineup? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn4GfVv3sg8Peak: 8Wks: 17

This band has been humongous on my charts , since "Animal" first graced the radiowaves. This was supposed to be their comeback hit for 2017, but things are so screwed up the Alternative charts right now, that it barely graced the top 50. Since my chart is tailor made for these upbeat addictive gems, the band found their way right into my top 5 and end up just outside the top 50 of the year.

51. 15 Incubus - Nimble Bastard (3 weeks #6) 50-30-24-18-15-14-13-10-8-6-6-6-8-18-33-off At #51 we find one of the biggest Alternative bands of the early 2000s. They actually had a big pop hit with "Drive", but I was more into "Stellar" and "Pardon Me". Since then I have charted Incubus numerous times, including the big hit off "Trust fall" and one of my favorite songs ,from their catalog, "Absolution Calling". This year they released "Nimble Bastard" and being a big Incubus fan, I had to chart it. The song was good, but more of a quick injection so we wouldn't forget about them, then a true; Incubus classic. This year it finishes off just one slot from my top 50 of 2017.

We are up to my top 50 of 2017. These are the songs I downloaded? Checked the first time I listened to them. The ones that could not be left out. These top 50 will feature some of the big genre hits, but more of my synthpop indie picks, Metal favs , my favorite K-Pop song of the year, and a bunch of 80's icons comebacks. let's get started. 50. 18 Stitched Up Heart - Catch Me When I Fall (7) 43-37-31-28-26-25-23-19-16-14-12-12-10-8-9-7-8-14-offWe are back in familiar territory with a Metal band that scores two big hits on my year end list. I was already into this one before it became a single, but I knew it would become a single. If you know me, you know I flip for Female Metal vocals, so it's only apt for Alecia, and her band to kick off my monster hits of 2017 with "Catch Me When I Fall". I will surely put this one high on the 2017 Active rankdown as well.Peak: 7Wks: 18

If you are into CHVRCHES and The Naked and Famous, M83 and others with similar style , then check out LGHTNNG . The music video features those 80's neon colors. The blues, purples, Pinks. In fact, I discovered both songs on the same night. One following the other. Ironically, both also appear on my year end list, side by side. This is the only song on my entire list, that has no youtube video, so you get a soundcloud link, if interested to listen to the song. It's from the New Romantic, band ABC. This song doesn't miss one 80's note. ABC was a band that was especially known for having a big strings section in their music. It gave it that romantic vibe, that gave them hit after hit on the charts. in 2016, they finally released "Lexicon of Love Part II". We are talking about 20+ years since "The Look Of Love" and "Poison Arrow". They had other great songs in between the years, but this album ,and especially this song, took me way back to 1983. The sleeve art is an original of mine. I was trying to capture that essence of the 80's, New Romantic look.

You could consider this a comeback single for them. That is; a return to my charts, beacuse I really haven't been into their music for quite sometime. Maybe the mid 2000's when "Fake It" and "Careless Whisper" were enjoying chart action on my weekly top 50. I liked this song, because it brought back the melodic metal vibe I love. The intro caught my ear right from the first guitar strums. Another thing I really love was the guitar solo. Those have been absent from Active for a frw eyars and it seems they are finally bringing back the best part of the rock song. At three weeks at #7, this becomes Seether's 4rth highest charting song on my top weekly charts. It comes in, right under "Remedy".

One, you won't see until we are way up in the top songs, but here at #43, is their first single off "Ti Amo". This one brings on that incredible 80's vibe, that's very popular on Alt charts now a days. This song rose up quickly to my top 10 and got as high as #7 before taking a backseat to the second , monster single. This song also has one hell of a Music video. You may remember this one from my 2016 year end chart. It didn't end up so high that year, but it returned in 2017 and became a much bigger hit than I ever imagined it could? On my chart, as well as the actual Alternative charts. The style is pure English indie synthpop, but the kind that has that incredible crisp production to make the music have that perfect, aesthetic, and powerful image. Aside from this monster hit; I have only dug one other song from this band, called "Rollarcoaster" , but even that one didn't hit me as hard as "Don't Take The Money". Here is another song that took it sweet time climbing up my chart . Number 6 was it high peak and at a whomping 24 week chart run, it starts off the 40 biggest hits of the year. The video is alright. Red Hot Chili Peppers usually fair much much higher on my year end charts with their songs, and while I did dig this song; I think it misses the bulls eye here and there. Particularly that that fade out ending; which I'm not really a a fan of. The rest of the song is pretty tight. Alecia ; herself has described the band's sound as "heart" Rock. Whatever that may be, it sounds like good old metal to me. The reason this song crossed over from 2016 is because, believe it or not, I used to think it was a trainwreck. Shortly after that initial thought, I began to fully appreciate the contrasting harsh and melodic melodies to their full extent. This was also one of the songs that fully got me into my Metal phase again. Started up the Weekly Metal chart too. A nice, 24 week chart run is another reason,"Monster" ends up high on this list.
