56. 20 The Naked And The Famous - Higher (6 for 2 weeks) (2017) 6-16-off
Next is the Naked and Famous. This is a band charting for the first time ever on one of my year end charts. The funny thing is, that it's with a song that totally missed the mark on the Actual Alternative charts. For me , it had that perfect, atmospheric, female sung ,synthpop vibe that I love. Think of the current Echosmith songs , like "Future Me" or "Get Into My Car". That melodic 80's vibe with big vocals. Works for me every time.

55. 23 Katy Perry - Chained To The Rhythm feat Skip Marley (9) 50-47-44-40-37-35-34-33-34-36-32-30-27-26-25-23-20-16-13-11-10-9-12-off
Speaking of Synthpop. This year Katy Perry released an amazing Pop song with that vibe in mind. Probably my favorite Katy Perry song, since "Last Friday Night", and that has been a while back. The lyrics of "Chained To The Rhythm" reminded me of some perfect Utopian world where everything seems to be perfect, but in reality everyone is just living their lives on autopilot. A scary thought, but I know many people who live like this. The Music Video is also one of the best visual ones I've seen for a song this year. This isn't the first ,or last time I'll be charting Katy Perry on one of these year end charts. I just hope she writes more songs like these in the future.

54. 21 Breaking Benjamin - Never Again (3 weeks #9) 43-34-28-23-21-19-17-17-16-16-18-18-20-16-14-12-10-9-9-9-23-off
Let's get into the Hard Rock vibe at #54, with a band that has has had quite a few big hits on my top 50. last year they hit big with "Angels Fall", but this year they surpassed that success with "Never Again". I love this band. They have a Powerballad vibe on many of there songs, yet they are not a powerballad band. They fall more into the Alternative Metal tag, but all the while keeping a great melodic style to their music. This song took it's time climbing up my chart, and when the coast was clear rose to the top 10 for a big four week stay. My sleeve for the song has little to do with the song's theme, but I love that Lion looking up to the sky gazing upon that new tomorrow.

53. 17 Abominables - Tu Me Engañas (8) 39-33-31-28-26-24-22-19-15-13-11-10-8-9-9-11-16-off
Abominables are one of my favorite Mexican Indie rock bands around. I've been charting their songs since 2012 when they were a four man band. I have also had the pleasure to see them play live a couple of times. There sound is pure 80's, but they claim their inspiration comes the Cars, and you can clearly hear it in songs like this. Another great aspect of this band is the newest lineup. It's still Abulon on lead vocals, but now he is backed up by a four women ensemble. One guitarist, One on bass, one on synths and of course ,Zette Voltage, who has been on skins since their start. They have also just released a music video for "Crimen" , the song I was planning to chart this 2018. Wanna get to know the band's lineup? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn4GfVv3sg8

52. 17 Neon Trees - Feel Good (5) 43-33-25-24-22-20-21-22-18-16-13-11-9-6-5-7-11-off
We are up to another of my all time favorite indierock bands. This band has been humongous on my charts , since "Animal" first graced the radiowaves. This was supposed to be their comeback hit for 2017, but things are so screwed up the Alternative charts right now, that it barely graced the top 50. Since my chart is tailor made for these upbeat addictive gems, the band found their way right into my top 5 and end up just outside the top 50 of the year.
At #51 we find one of the biggest Alternative bands of the early 2000s. They actually had a big pop hit with "Drive", but I was more into "Stellar" and "Pardon Me". Since then I have charted Incubus numerous times, including the big hit off "Trust fall" and one of my favorite songs ,from their catalog, "Absolution Calling". This year they released "Nimble Bastard" and being a big Incubus fan, I had to chart it. The song was good, but more of a quick injection so we wouldn't forget about them, then a true; Incubus classic. This year it finishes off just one slot from my top 50 of 2017.

We are up to my top 50 of 2017. These are the songs I downloaded? Checked the first time I listened to them. The ones that could not be left out. These top 50 will feature some of the big genre hits, but more of my synthpop indie picks, Metal favs , my favorite K-Pop song of the year, and a bunch of 80's icons comebacks. let's get started.
50. 18 Stitched Up Heart - Catch Me When I Fall (7) 43-37-31-28-26-25-23-19-16-14-12-12-10-8-9-7-8-14-off
We are back in familiar territory with a Metal band that scores two big hits on my year end list. I was already into this one before it became a single, but I knew it would become a single. If you know me, you know I flip for Female Metal vocals, so it's only apt for Alecia, and her band to kick off my monster hits of 2017 with "Catch Me When I Fall". I will surely put this one high on the 2017 Active rankdown as well.

49. 19 LGHTNNG - Keep It Together (4 weeks #9) (2017)33-31-25-22-20-21-20-17-14-13-10-9-9-9-9-11-25-off
We are to a gorgeous ,Synthpop ,song by the band, LGHTNNG. I also discovered this one on soundcloud, but loved it even more once I saw the Music video. If you are into CHVRCHES and The Naked and Famous, M83 and others with similar style , then check out LGHTNNG . The music video features those 80's neon colors. The blues, purples, Pinks. Think of DREAMCAR's - "Kill For Candy". It's visually beautiful as well.

48. 16 VOES - Hold On (2 weeks #7) 49-41-33-29-25-22-17-14-12-11-9-8-8-7-7-11-off
#48 ,is a song with that similar 80's style ,like "Keep It Together". I also discovered this gem on Souncloud. In fact, I discovered both songs on the same night. One following the other. Ironically, both also appear on my year end list, side by side. This is the only song on my entire list, that has no youtube video, so you get a soundcloud link, if interested to listen to the song. I actually tried contacting them to see if my friends and I could make a video for their song? Still wanting for a callback.

47. 23 El Ultimo Vecino - Mi Amiga Salvaje (2 weeks #8) 48-45-43-40-38-37-35-33-31-27-24-21-19-19-17-16-16-14-16-10-8-8-15-off
We are to the Spanish Rock band ;El Ultimo Vecino. This band is one of my favorites for their 80's, Cure like style of their music. When you click on the video, you know what I heard. They also have styles from Fobia and sound s like a few songs on AFI's latest album. Anyway, this is what I consider perfect Alternative Rock style. This song spent a full chart run , of +23 weeks before settling down in the top 10 at #8. I'm Already in process of picking out the next album track off theirs to chart in 2018.

46. 21 ABC - The Flames Of Desire (2 weeks #7) 48-44-42-40-37-34-29-26-24-22-20-19-18-15-14-12-9-7-7-9-14-off
The first of those 80's icons, I promised you, is making their way onto my top 50. It's from the New Romantic, band ABC. This song doesn't miss one 80's note. ABC was a band that was especially known for having a big strings section in their music. It gave it that romantic vibe, that gave them hit after hit on the charts. in 2016, they finally released "Lexicon of Love Part II". We are talking about 20+ years since "The Look Of Love" and "Poison Arrow". They had other great songs in between the years, but this album ,and especially this song, took me way back to 1983. The sleeve art is an original of mine. I was trying to capture that essence of the 80's, New Romantic look.

45. 18 Young The Giant - Silvertongue (7) 41-38-35-30-28-26-22-19-16-14-12-10-8-7-8-8-10-17- off
Number 45, is the only song I charted this year from the ; California based Indierock band, Young The Giant. It's been a few years since "It's About Time" dominated my top 50 and even tho, this one dives more into the indiepop style, I still thought it was an incredible "bop". This song spent six long weeks in my top 10 and even tho it stalled at #7, it still, comes in high on my year end list.

44. 17 Seether - Let You Down (3 weeks #7) 38-33-29-25-22-19-20-17-16-14-13-13-11-8-7-7-7-11-26-off
Number 44, brings us back into the Metal territory. It's from the band, Seether. You could consider this a comeback single for them. That is; a return to my charts, beacuse I really haven't been into their music for quite sometime. Maybe the mid 2000's when "Fake It" and "Careless Whisper" were enjoying chart action on my weekly top 50. I liked this song, because it brought back the melodic metal vibe I love. The intro caught my ear right from the first guitar strums. Another thing I really love was the guitar solo. Those have been absent from Active for a frw eyars and it seems they are finally bringing back the best part of the rock song. At three weeks at #7, this becomes Seether's 4rth highest charting song on my top weekly charts. It comes in, right under "Remedy".
Up next is the indiepop band Phoenix. This band is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands of 1017 and most likely into 2018. They score two songs on my top 50 this year. One, you won't see until we are way up in the top songs, but here at #43, is their first single off "Ti Amo". This one brings on that incredible 80's vibe, that's very popular on Alt charts now a days. This song rose up quickly to my top 10 and got as high as #7 before taking a backseat to the second , monster single. This song also has one hell of a Music video. It reminds me of those lip sync performances of Europe's ;Top of the Pops. Not only the performance but the whole presetation, Lighting, and even how they are compared to the icons of the 80's era.
We are up to a very special song from the 1975. You may remember this one from my 2016 year end chart. It didn't end up so high that year, but it returned in 2017 and became a much bigger hit than I ever imagined it could? On my chart, as well as the actual Alternative charts. The style is pure English indie synthpop, but the kind that has that incredible crisp production to make the music have that perfect, aesthetic, and powerful image. I wasn't really fan a fan of the overly long music video, but it told a story and that goes a long way. With a chart run of 24 weeks, "Somebody Else" comes in just two slots high of the top 40 of 2017.

41. 20 COIN - Talk Too Much (7) (2017) 18-13-12-11-8-8-7-8-9-15-off
Up next ,we got the runaway indiepop hit from the band; COIN. I've heard a lot of comparisons to the Walk The Moon, smash, "Shut Up and Dance", and in more ways than one, those comparisons are what got my interest up for the song. It has that perfect upbeat guitar vibe that I am missing more than ever on the Alt charts now a days. At 20 big weeks on my top 50, this song crossed over from 2016 to really make it's mark in 2017.

40. 24 Bleachers - Don't Take The Money (6) 50-40-33-31-27-29-28-29-29-28-26-23-20-19-17-17-16-13-11-11-8-6-7-15-off
We are up to The Bleachers and that 80's overboard sounds tells you we are now deep into the biggest hits of the year. Aside from this monster hit; I have only dug one other song from this band, called "Rollarcoaster" , but even that one didn't hit me as hard as "Don't Take The Money". Here is another song that took it sweet time climbing up my chart . Number 6 was it high peak and at a whomping 24 week chart run, it starts off the 40 biggest hits of the year. The video is alright. I hate when they break up the songs groove in these music videos. I would have preferred a cameo by Lorde instead of all that comedy, but some of those chicks were oddly doable so can't complain too much.
At number 39 comes an, L.A. based ,synthpop band that has been continuously on my charts for three years now. It's been 2 years since "for Life" hit the charts and Im still finding great songs to chart from that album. The excitement started with the Alt chart hit "I'm In Love With My Life" ; a song that quickly flew up my weekly charts. The next single "Betty Blue" was the one I took to #1. This year I decided to give "Silhouette" some chart action, and it has payed off, as it is currently already in my top 5 songs of the week. The style is straight up 80's synthpop as it sounded in 1985 and the vocals are as heavenly as a synthpop band can get.

38. 20 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Go Robot (5) (2017) 18-19-17-15-13-11-9-6-5-7-8-11-off
Number 38 brings us to one of my favorite Alternative rock bands ever. Red Hot Chili Peppers usually fair much much higher on my year end charts with their songs, and while I did dig this song; I think it misses the bulls eye here and there. Particularly that that fade out ending; which I'm not really a a fan of. The rest of the song is pretty tight. I think the danc/rock vibe worked well with Anthony's vocals and Flea killed it in the bass department, so it naturally cracked my top 5 and spent a full term of 20 weeks on the my top 50.

37. 24 Stitched Up Heart - Monster (6 for 2 weeks) (2017) 16-14-10-8-6-6-8-13-off
Number 37 is the second entry from the metal band; Stitched Up Heart. Alecia ; herself has described the band's sound as "heart" Rock. Whatever that may be, it sounds like good old metal to me. The reason this song crossed over from 2016 is because, believe it or not, I used to think it was a trainwreck. Shortly after that initial thought, I began to fully appreciate the contrasting harsh and melodic melodies to their full extent. This was also one of the songs that fully got me into my Metal phase again. Started up the Weekly Metal chart too. A nice, 24 week chart run is another reason,"Monster" ends up high on this list. Up next for 2018, I'm think about charting "It's So Easy". Another fierce/melodic, track off "Never Alone"

"U-Turn" is an amazing indiepop song with all the right 80's vibe included. This band has been big on my weekly charts, but they are not consistent. It's been years since "Closer", "Back In Your Head" and the awesome, "Walking With A Ghost" first charted, so i took my time with "U-Turn". I figue it will be another 3 years till they return to my charts anyway. "U-Turn" went on to become there biggest hit on my chart. Coming only second to the very; Cars influenced ,"Walking With A Ghost".

35. 22 Mirko Hirsch Feat. Trans X - Video Night (I love 83 the 86 remix) (2 weeks #6) 41-34-21-20-21-20-23-21-21-23-18-17-16-15-12-10-7-6-6-8-10-22-off
Number 35 is indeed a special song from another 80's icon getting a little help from one of today's premier composers responsible for the rebirth in Italo Disco. Mirko Hirch has been on the Italian NRG scene for about a decade now writing music for many acts, but has only recently began doing vocals for some of his songs as well. On this song he teams up with Trans X. Trans -X are responsible for the big Underground 80's club hit "Living On Video". "Living On Video" also spent 14 weeks as my #1 song back in 1985. The second time it was released. here we have the extended (I Love 1983) remix of "Video Night". The style sounds exactly like "Living On Video" part two.

34. 21 Stone Sour - Song #3 (3 weeks #5) 44-38-35-33-33-32-35-35-37-35-34-off2-RE24-17-14-10-8-5-5-5-10-15-off
The hits just keep getting bigger, and to go from High NRG to hard Rock isn't a big transition on my year end charts. "Song #3" is another song with a pecular chart run. Like The 1975's "Somebody Else" ,it also peaked early on, but the truth is, I don't what I was thinking, and left it off for two weeks,so I quickly brought it back at just about the time it had become Active's #1 song as well. This is in fact, Active Rock's number 1 song of 2017. Those who me, can attest to me being a big Corey Taylor vocals fan and this song kinda rocked 80's style. For the sleeve art, I made four different ones using different styles of their logo, before finally settleing on the logo style from their latest album.

The first appearance by mega band, Green Day, comes in way up here at #33. Green Day are a monster band on my weekly charts since forever and this melodic powerpop track had no other way to go but way up my top 10. I've seen a few negative comments about this great song, but I pay no attention to these when its about one of my favorite bands. this was huge on both Alt and Active charts as well.

32. 26 DREAMCAR - Born To Lie (2 weeks#5) 44-40-37-33-30-29-27-25-23-22-22-19-17-15-13-13-13-12-10-9-9-7-5-5-8-12-off
We are to my favorite ,new band of the year, DREAMCAR. This is the second track off their debut album that I just had to chart. DREAMCAR have such a perfect 80's Alt vibe that it felt like if someone wanted to create a band just for my taste in music. This was a monster hit on my chart and the first song we run into with a+25 week chart run on my year end chart. There are plenty more to come, but this is the first. We also have one more song from this band coming up.
We are up to the first and only song that I charted this year from Cage The Elephant. I didn't both with "trouble" ,because that did what it had to last year and "Whole Wide World" was a cover that wasn't every good, but this song was extremely catchy. It had that Psychedelic vibe I have learned to love from this band. I truthfully never cared for the Nirvana vibe their early songs had, but after "Come A Little Closer" was released; I really started digging their sound. This year "cold Cold Cold" dominated the #5 slot on y top 10 for five straight weeks. This chart action puts cage The Elephant just outside my top 30 songs of 2017.

At #30. we see a first time charting Indiepop band on my year end list. I discovered this band on Youtube. I saw the thumbnail of there video, and thought this should be up my alley. It turns out that I loved this song. It's currently #2 on my weekly charts and has a strong chanceto reach number1. If you love uptempo indiepop with with some guitar vibe and great female vocals, then check out Wayfareres.

29. 19 blink 182 - She's Out of Her Mind (2) (2017) 19-17-13-10-7-5-4-3-2-5-9-16-off
Up next we are up to one of the most contraversial songs ,by blink 182 on the rock forums. From what I gather its hang ups on the lyrics (again). mainly because of the stuttering , and because the girl wore black shirt, black skirt and some bauhaus stuck in her hair. Ironically those parts are my favorite parts of the song. That and the Music video. It's basically party rock that reminded me of my other favorite blink song; "All The Small Things".
