I was listening to the Madonna demo album "Pre-Madonna" for the first time in a long time. I always loved the early demo of her song "Stay." It is radically different than the version that ended up on Like a Virgin, but you can hear snippets of the original lyrics on that album. The original demo has a pretty fast chugging beat to it and is definitely rooted in a bit of disco and new wave. It always makes me feel like dancing. Take a listen.
Also included on that album is the original demo of Everybody. It definitely slams a bit heavier with the bass and has an effect on her vocals. The original arrangement has this kinda spaceage sounding synthesizer as part of the bassline. That was eventually removed and replaced with the higher key synthesizer in the final version. I like this demo and it is the version that got her signed to a record deal in 1981.
Here ya go:

crazy that Madonna has potential to hit the Hot 100 not once but TWICE here comin up. I have been thinking way beyond that. How about potential 13th and 14th Number 1 on the Hot 100? If anyone deserves to beat The Beatles's record it's Madonna. So many iconic songs that didnt hit #1.

Considering she hasn’t managed to enter the hot 100 since Bitch, I’ll celebrate a new hot 100 entry She deserved to have at least one song from Madame X… Among her more recent collars, I wish the Levitating remix had been better, and that the Break my soul remix had allowed her a reentry. Frozen was ok -but only one new version. I hope these new collabs are interesting and deserving. Kylie delivered a strong comeback. I hope M does the same with at least one of these collabs.

Frozen was ok -but only one new version. I hope these new collabs are interesting and deserving. Kylie delivered a strong comeback. I hope M does the same with at least one of these collabs. It is weird. I am surprised that "Bitch, I'm Madonna" made the Hot 100 because I personally do not think it is a good pop song, nor very catchy. What drove its chart position was the video plays, as it was hyped to include all these cameos and people wanted to see. Meanwhile, I loved her feature on Levitating. Though I think you have to listen closely to hear when Madonna's verse kicks in, I loved the more full bass beat and slightly spend up BPM. Considering how hot Dua Lipa was, kinda surprising it did not get as much attention. Meanwhile the rap version and original version did very well. I do not think she is going to get much traction on a re-tread of her prior hits. It is going to sound odd, but hear me out. There are very few people who will be discovering a past Madonna song for the first time or build enough hype to get the remix or original song to re-enter the charts. Her hits like Frozen, Vogue, etc. were such massive hits at their time and permeated the pop culture so much when they first came out (and in the years since) that is very hard to build much more hype for them. Most folks who would love her music or pop music in general already own the song, are overly familiar with the song, or would be apathetic at this point. Like how much bigger can you make Vogue? It is just so ingrained in our pop culture already. These new mixes really only appeal to the diehards or gay community (we do worship our diva). Her only real chance to dent the charts is with a new single and it has to be pretty slamming. The thing that works against her is her age and the general population just dismisses her and makes disparaging remarks and will dismiss the song regardless of the merit of the song. It is sad.

The only outside shot I could see of a past song charting is if "Into The Groove" gets some kind of "Running Up That Hill" treatment and/or goes viral since it was not allowed to chart when it was released.
Otherwise, we'd have to hope for something random like Nothing Really Matters, Human Nature, Jump, Hollywood, or an album track from American Life or later. It's a fun thought experiment to think about which of her album tracks and underperforming 21st Century singles could go viral. But GaGa's "Bloody Mary" proves that even things we thought too far left field for radio can catch on if the moment is right.

imo, Into the Groove will hit the Top 5 when she passes, but it is also the perfect candidate for a Running Up the Hill moment before that time comes. All it needs is a feature like Bloody Mary or something and BOOM!
I think something from Hard Candy might catch on too, since that album has aged very well. Like Devil or She's Not Me. Tiktok would be all over a snippet of She's Not Me.

Don't expect Top Tens or even #1s.
The Weeknd and Sam Smith have gotten a lot of bad press lately.
Fans have such different opinions about her music.
Most fans hate Hard Candy. I love it.
I like B.itch I'm Madonna. It's eligible for Gold with the RIAA.
Someone here (?) just criticized the Frozen remix with Sickick. It was huge for Madonna last year and will be eligible for Gold with the RIAA later this year.
I really like Back That Up To The Beat. It should have been as big as the Frozen remix.

It’s sad that since 2000, she has been in the top 10 only 6 times. Some artists dream of that, but for her, it’s shocking, considering her streak before that. It’s not like she hasn’t released great music. So while folks may be thinking that her chart misfortunes are relatively recent, she has actually been struggling off and on for the past 23 years. Yes, she had a few big hits, but mainly not.
Music #1 Don’t Tell Me #4 Die Another Day #8 Hung Up #7 4 Minutes #3 Give Me All Ur Luvin #10
She had 4 other Top 40 hits: American Pie #29 What It Feels Like #23 American Life #37 Me Against the Music #35
4 more songs that charted but missed Top 40: Sorry #58 Give it 2 Me #57 Celebration #71 Bitch I’m Madonna #84
everything else failed to chart.

When it came time for Madonna to debut her pivotal third album, True Blue, the breakout superstar hit the world with a change-up: "Live to Tell," the dramatic ballad that served as the record's lead single.
"Sometimes when I'm writing songs, I'm just channeling," Madonna told Rolling Stone in 2009. "I could say that 'Live To Tell' was about my childhood, my relationship with my parents, my father and my stepmother. But maybe not. It could be about something in an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, or a story that I heard once. It's true, but it's not necessarily autobiographical." Released on March 26, 1986, "Live to Tell," co-written by Patrick Leonard, served as the theme song for movie At Close Range, starring Madonna's then-husband, actor Sean Penn. The track raced up the charts, peaking at #1 on the Hot 100 for the week of June 7, 1986. It finally hit the top spot after being blocked for two weeks by Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All." "Live to Tell" would only stay at #1 for a single week, replaced on the following chart by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald's "On My Own."
Over the week of May 31, 1986, "Live to Tell" became Madonna's first #1 song on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart.
"It was kind of inspired by the movie and family secrets and the things that make you who you are, but you don't necessarily want to share," the singer coyly told Mojo in 2015. "Mix that in with my own childhood and my own growing up and all that. My real experiences get mixed in with things that, I imagine."

^Live To Tell's Sales Plus Streaming number is 600k. If it sold 400k in physical singles in the 1980s, it could be eligible for Platinum with the RIAA.

As much as I love most of Rebel Heart, this is the possibly hottest thing I've heard from her since Confessions.

The fact that Confessions only had a #7 and a #58 peaking songs speaks volumes of the state of US radio at that time, considering that Hung Up was undoubtedly one of the biggest hits of the decade worldwide and Sorry was a big hit, too. Jump was horribly treated, with the label not capitalizing on its popularity in NBA programs and the Devil Wears Prada movie. And she had better options for the US market than Get Together… Just like Give it 2 Me, while being ahead of its time (as a few years later Blurred Lines would become a mega hit), if needed some major edit to make it viable (that stupid “stupid” bridge was ) as a pop radio hit. Other songs like Heartbeat, Dance 2Night or Devil were more radio friendly even if a couple of Pulsers would fight me against it at that time lol). Then, Rebel Heart was one of the worst botched releases ever. After there was a lot of hype when songs leaked at the end of the year, the team let the hype completely die instead of capitalizing on it. Further, some tracks were switched to less interesting versions but Living for love was released with the same album version many weeks later. And unique songs like Devil’s Pray stayed as album tracks and others like BIM were released too late and with not enough promo. A single like Ghosttown had no chance in this environment even though it’s one of her best songs this century. Re Levitating, that remix wasn’t for me. It was good for clubs but it was too monotonous for radio and actually removed some of its most appealing parts like the disco vibe or the catchy bridge. And re Frozen and Break my soul, reimagining and sampling old hits can be successful, as we’ve seen with I’m Blue or First Class or Super Freaky Girl or Cold Heart, soooo

Apparently Madonna only has a verse on "Vulgar." It sounds campy and gay and fun, but good luck with this on the pop charts. I am interested to hear the full song. This doesn't even have the full part from Tik Tok, so this is misleading.

It hurts to say this, but I'm always super skeptical about new Madge these days, but The Weeknd song is really cute. It's tapping into that classic Neptunes sound and I'm definitely here for it.
