Yeah... we're done here. You're so focused on numbers and have no sense of context and certainly no sense of history. Enjoy your fantasy of her never acting again, lol.

The reeeeeeeachiiiing in this thread is insufferable dahhhling (to quote another diva) How are you going to blame LG for the film underperforming, when it was the decisions of the director taking the film down in the end? You're going to sit and look at me straight in the eyes and argue any other actress (even Margot Robbie herself) would've somehow singlehandedly turned this film around into an undeniable success (since we're trying and failing miserably to place sole blame on LG)? This film is going to undepeform for two reasons: no one who saught this movie wanted to see a musical and everyone was expecting a better/different more exciting version from the first and a lot are turned off by its direction. Simple. The director wanted LG because she is an actual fantastic actress with undeniable range and has a certain over-the-top character about her that one could easily see slipping into a Harley role while maintaining artistic credibility. She was literally a perfect choice. It was just the wrong project she still poured every ounce and then some (companion album included ) into and make no mistake I'm sure there will be reviews stating she's one of the film's saving graces and she will still bounce back with a huge film in the future as you simply can't kill or keep formative, undeniable talent like Gaga's down. No one is biting the narrative you're solely trying to paint.

It's usually easy to see if someone is discussing in good faith vs bad faith. I don't see a point in even reacting to the people posting in bad faith.
Anyway, flop faster, bitch, I need LG7 LOL.

When does it become evident that holdmecloser is actually trolling now? Mods?
On another note, I sincerely think they should have stuck with one soundtrack release for the film.

Whoa has no idea so many people on this board would know who grace is.
I think Gaga was a great casting choice for this film. I agree after this and Gucci it’s going to be an uphill battle for her to score major roles. I don’t think Gaga is to blame for this at all though most reviews seem to enjoy her and feel she wasn’t given enough screen time.
The musical aspect seems to be a huge error among other things.

Gaga will always be able to win film roles. People are interested in seeing her as she hasn't done the same thing twice yet.

I am pretty shocked that Joker is being so universally hated and bombing so hard tbh. When I heard the whole musical pitch and Gaga casting angle, I figured it sounded too crazy and left-field for it not to work and that they must have an incredible script. I guess not. Well, I hope she can pick better roles in the future, I want an Actress Oscar dammit, lol.

I know the movie is bombing and most critics hate it, but I liked it. I also know the only thing critics liked was LG. So, I still hope she get a Best Supporting Oscar nomination. LG wants to win an acting Oscar, like Cher and Streisand. Maybe she will get it this year? I wonder what her odds of getting a supporting actress nomination are? Sure, hope she is at least nominated (for acting and not just for song).

Forbes has just reported that the breakeven point for this is $500M...No words. This is on par with The Avengers. Considering that its domestic OW is now expected to be $35-37M, it will probably fail to surpass $200 million overall, so it will translate into a $300 million loss.
And it's pretty funny how this forum acts like Todd Phillips alone is responsible for this movie's performance. By this logic, Bradley Cooper was solely responsible for the success of ASIB since he directed it. And album producers/songwriters are supposed to be fully responsible for their performance. Just accept the fact that the "butts-in-seats" narrative around Gaga has been shattered. It's just inexcusable for a star of her caliber to fail to secure at least a $50M opening week for a follow-up to a $1B movie.

I didn’t realize Gaga was literally the only one IN the film too. So who’s playing Joker? Or is that her?

The film was absolutely atrocious, but there's nothing for Gaga to be ashamed/upset about. She got her check. Every actor is going to star in a total bomb of a film at one point or another, so this is just part of how Hollywood works.
Excited for LG7.

Not bad for someone who cannot act and hasn't had pop hits since 2013.

^^^Err… I love Gaga and all, but let’s not try to spin the movie as anything other than one of the biggest blockbuster failures of all time. For context, it’s opening lower than The Marvels, which was the previous low mark for a major comic book movie sequel and is technically the biggest box office bomb of all time by money lost. This one had almost the same budget as that, so it’s looking dire to say the least. Thank goodness she is currently on a music high at least.

Not bad for someone who cannot act and hasn't had pop hits since 2013. I love how it repeatedly emphasizes the "global box office" part to obscure the fact that Joker 2 failed to outperform ASIB in the US despite costing nearly $500 million. In fact, its total global box office gross will likely be below ASIB's US box office gross. Bradley Cooper's power is insane

I just saw it tonight and, while the movie is terrible, Gaga is great in it. She’s possibly the only good thing in the movie. I just don’t think anyone was interested in seeing a courtroom drama set in the Joker universe. The plot is paper thin. But its biggest sin is relegating Gaga to the sidelines for the second half.

Agree! I liked it a lot in some parts, but is it a GOOD movie? I don't think so. Gaga did amazing though!

I know this film is based on a comic book property, but I don't think it fair to compare to big, action-packed CGI-filled comic book movies. Yes, it's going to underperform relative to its budget but it's also not a colossal failure, just an underperformance and disappointment.

It secured respectable numbers, but it failed short of generating a profit due to its marketing budget. Joker 2 is a thermonuclear bomb, not an underperformance. It is likely to end up on the list of the biggest box office bombs of all time alongside "The Lone Ranger" and "The Marvels."

Joker is a massive bomb but also not Gaga's fault when the biggest criticism is directed towards the writing, directing and producing. The actors left relatively unscathed.
There is no way to view the numbers as good, because opening at 50% of your previous debut with almost 4x the budget and toxic word of mouth (so it will not leg out to a decent overall gross) is terrible. The level of audience rejection, the D Cinemascore, the saturday number dropping 45% are all terrible and nearly unprecedented.
But even the worst reviews say Gaga did the best she could and was underused. She will find more acting work with ease. And she got her 12 I think? Million dollar check.

This is your official cue to kindly move on. Thank you! Oh...I saw the movie on Saturday in IMAX with a couple of friends and we LOVED it. Musicals aren't really my thing, especially old school ones, but they really incorporated the songs well into the story and they actually worked. Bravo! Of course, Joaquin and Gaga anchored and carried the movie, but it was enjoyable overall.
