Vogue cover is even more underwhelming than Bey's last month...

I'm not big on the cover either. It's her facial expression, it's so blank that it washes any personality of the entire photo out.
Which is a shame because the shot of her sitting with the headband is SO good! That is what the Joanne look should have been.

I didn’t love her look at TIFF. I hope she tames it down a little for the premieres over the next month. I understand she is a fashion icon, I just want her acting the sole focus. Also, to those on the chain who think it’s ludicrous that she will get a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars - why is that? The public and the Academy love a good fairy tale story. Im not saying she will win the award but I think she will indeed be nominated. And she will take home one anyway in the song category so....

Honestly, there have been many actresses that have been nominated or won a Best Actress Oscar over the years and its a total headscratcher how or why they were.
An example within the last 10 years, Sandra Bullock's win for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in "The Blind Side" (2009) was eyeroll-worthy, while Gabourey Sidibe should have won for "Precious" that same year.
When it comes to singers-turned-actresses, the last to be nominated and win was Cher for "Moonstruck" in 1987, so having GaGa do so would be most welcome.

It feels as if she is about to have a Mimi-type resurgence.

The Academy is not going to nominate Lady Gaga for any acting awards, you should probably just get that out of your heads now. The Golden Globes, however... these singers/actresses have been nominated/won an Oscar. Diana Ross in Lady Sings the Blues Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls Courtney Love in The People vs. Larry Flynt Bette Midler in The Rose Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl Cher in Moonstruck Honorable mention- Judy Garland in A Star is Born I think Lady Gaga will be nominated unless the competition is strong. It is very early in the awards season but as of now, she is a favorite.

Courtney Love didn't get an Oscar nomination. She got a GG nomination. She's actually a good example of how someone can get a ton of praise and critic society noms/wins, and still not snag an Oscar nomination. By all accounts I've read, the actress field is already packed this year, and that's just based on the film festival movies alone.

Gaga definitely has a strong chance of being nominated and if anyone thinks otherwise is embarrassing themselves. The studio is going HARD campaigning for this and it's not even Oct.

A Best Actress nomination MAY happen, but her best chance of leaving the Oscars a winner will be in Best Original Song. It’s very likely that she’ll win that one.

Not only is Gaga very much in the race but she's probably, currently, second to Glenn Close as far who is likeliest to take home Best Actress. It's not clear if the overwhelmingly positive notices she got out of TIFF are a product of "oh, she can act" or something more but it doesn't matter either. We have to come to grips with the fact that Fad is not, in fact, a fad and she is instead experiencing a Cher-like career.

Since when an artist with 4 #1 albums in 8 years has been "a fad"

As much as I would love to see Gaga win, Glenn Close will win.

I mean, like, I have zero expectations of her winning Best Actress or Supporting Actress, but a nomination would be god-tier especially if it wins some music award as well. Just the positive press alone has been pretty amazing though. I consistently see praise for it and Gaga now.

This is a sound outlook, and I agree. ---- The issue I have with this early Oscar talk of being a frontrunner - and strong feelings about a nomination - is that if she doesn't get a nomination, it'll be instantly labeled a "snub".... when it's actually just a matter of not making the top 5 in the nomination process, which isn't until the 2nd week of January. There's a lot of award season films/performances nobody has even seen yet, many of which will be limited releases prior to the year-end cutoff, which often end up with the nominations. They're fresh in voters' minds. Point being: being a front-runner so early on isn't necessarily a good thing, but here's hoping it works to her advantage.

I think it works in her favour because it gives voters cause to consider her on a more serious level. Personally, I don’t think I expect her to get a nomination on the basis that she’s a musical performer first. I get the impression that those who are ‘actors’ get the attention and she’s seen as an outsider stepping into an acting role. Unless she’s REALLY good, I’d be surprised to see her get an acting nomination.

With a theatrical release in October, the movie will get a digital release at the end of December, and a likely BD release in mid-January, just in time for Academy voting.
