She's got the Star is Born era coming next, no? I'm assuming that means a soundtrack with several songs sung by her. I imagine they will send at least one song to radio. Maybe this is her Bodyguard? Lead single out in August?

I don’t think people appreciate Applause enough. "Applause" could have been PERFECTIOOOOON. I love the instrumental, the pre-chorus and chorus is epic (even the little post-chorus hook is cute). But then those verses, ugh. Lyrically and vocally, just no. And that marred so much of Artpop, these amazing choruses, production elements, etc. surrounded by nonsense. I like that she got most of her sloppiness in check on Joanne, I just need her to marry that discipline with some straight-up pop again. And she can still retain some of her old edge, she just needs to rein it in and focus it. She did such a great job of that on The Fame Monster. She can do it again. Sonically, Applause (and really ArtPoP as a whole) was amazingly solid. But then she decided she wanted to be artsy fartsy with the vocals & lyrics. Like who tf even knows who Jeff Koons is?

LOL exactly. I knew who he was because I had just seen his exhibit on a trip to Chicago, but I was thinking "What average Queen is going to listen to this and be like "Yaaaas Queen, spill the Jeff Koons tea!!"

Also, wtf does "one second I'm a Koons then suddenly the Koons is me" even mean? Like, that doesn't even make any sense.

I think she was trying to say one second she is looked at like a piece of art like something Koons would do and he inspires her...then the next second Koons is looking to her as the inspiration.

I haven't liked a complete album of hers since Born This Way but mostly I just hope she makes whatever music she feels like making, and maybe this time I'll enjoy it.

Bad Romance is making all these hitchcock references but they dont make the listener stop and say, wtf is that?

Gaga has always been about quirky lyrics, metaphors and such. I don't get why referencing an artist on the lead single of an album called ARTPOP is suddenly unheard of. It's called having a culture and googling stuff you don't know about.

The “koons” line is iconic, and I’m disgusted to see any of you questioning it.

I thought she was just purposefully mispronouncing cunt for months after Applause was released. But I'm classless, so...

The “koons” line is iconic, and I’m disgusted to see any of you questioning it. The back-to-back inversion lines (the koons and pop culture/art ones) are so great. I also stan "nostalgia is for GEEKS" [makes glasses with hands over one eye] Applause is a bop, the lyrics are amazing, and it can't be reasonably denied.

"Applause" was clearly too high brow for many I know who Jeff Koons the artist is — I was saying I always thought she was using it as a play on words when she says “suddenly the Koons is me” being aware that it sounds like the c word. Anyway, I love the song lol

I thought she was using the German word for art: Kunst I remember that’s what we all thought at first - until the official lyrics came out. I think I actually like it more than Koons.

The “koons” line is iconic, and I’m disgusted to see any of you questioning it. I get why people didn't like it, but it was seriously one of the most iconic things she has done recently. Like, I am not kidding, I see people casually referencing that line STILL TODAY. Sure, maybe some pop stations would have played it more if she had safe, generic lyrics, but I would not trade pop culture being blessed with that Koons line over a slightly higher pop radio peak lmao.

Applause is truly that song in her discography that did way more than people gave it credit for. The fact that very straight guy I know stanned it still kills me. And, looking back at how everyone melted down on its performance versus Roar, I think that Applause has aged much better. The club still goes off with the offbeat clapping during the spelling lesson, doing the choreo, and trying to spell ARTPOP with their fingers at the end.

I am here for this Applause stanning! The energy in the song alone was enough to make me love it. The chorus is what pop music NEEDS right now. Energy, great, catchy lyrics, upbeat, loud instrumental, loud and great vocals, something you can dance and sing along to. Meanwhile, the current #1 song features lyrics including “I hold back, sometimes I won't, yuh, I feel good, sometimes I don't, ayy, don't” and “Bad things, it's a lot of bad things, that they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin', they wishin' on me [x2]”

Applause is her best song. Period. I really like acting it out in one of those vertical tanning booths, lol.
