Not that I ever thought she deserved the acting Oscar, I did wish she won at least once at once of these precursor awards shows.

^ but she did tie with Close as best actress at the Critics Choice Awards. That’s a big deal to be recognized by her acting peers.

Gold Derby Lady Gaga’s heart will go on: ‘Shallow’ may be the 1st soundtrack song to win top Grammy since ‘Titanic’ anthem Daniel Montgomery January 30, 2019 Soundtrack songs used to be all the rage at the Grammys. But none have won Record of the Year since “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, the inescapable hit from “Titanic.” That was in 1999 — exactly 20 years ago. But 2019 looks like it could be a renaissance for movie music. “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from “A Star is Born” is nominated for Record of the Year, and it’s one of the top contenders to win. Movie tunes had their Grammys golden age in the 1990s, when half of the Record of the Year winners were from feature films: Eric Clapton‘s “Tears in Heaven” from “Rush” (1993), Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You” from “The Bodyguard” (1994), Seal‘s “Kiss from a Rose” from “Batman Forever” (1996), Clapton’s “Change the World” from “Phenomenon” (1997), and the aforementioned “Titanic” love ballad at the end of the decade. A number of other cinematic songs were nominated that decade, but didn’t win, including Bryan Adams‘s “(Everything I Do) I Do it For You” from “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” (1992), the Disney classics “Beauty and the Beast” (1993) and “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” (1994), and Bruce Springsteen‘s “Streets of Philadelphia” (1995), just to name a few. But sometime around the turn of the century, soundtrack songs stopped crossing over to the music industry’s biggest awards. After “My Heart Will Go On” won, only one tune from the big screen was even nominated for Record of the Year: Eminem‘s “Lose Yourself” from “8 Mile” (2004) Even a blockbuster hit like Idina Menzel‘s “Let it Go” from “Frozen” didn’t make the cut in the Grammys’ top category. But that changed this year when the recording academy nominated both “Shallow” from “A Star is Born” and Kendrick Lamar and SZA‘s “All the Stars” from “Black Panther.” Of the two, “Shallow” is likelier to win, according to our racetrack odds; it’s tied with Childish Gambino‘s “This is America” with leading odds of 9/2. But while it’s a dead heat when you consider all of the thousands of Gold Derby users who have made their predictions, “Shallow” actually has support from a majority of the Expert journalists we’ve polled thus far and most of the Editors who cover awards year-round for Gold Derby. Could we be at the start of another era of soundtrack supremacy? www.goldderby.com/article/2019/lady-gaga-shallow-grammy-predictions-celine-dion-my-heart-will-go-on-news-173968204/

I stan her again. I loved her responses. I hope when they eventually make an Oscar winning film about Kesha's fight for freedom in 20 years, they don't change a single word.

It's annoying to see Glenn Close plow through these award shows with such a ho hum performance. I think both Gaga and Colman have much more memorable and standout performances.

Wait - I just saw that Gaga refused to perform at the Oscars Unless all the nominees for Best Song were able to as well. And they listened. Is this old news? I’m behind on everything this week. If true, slay!

GoldDerby Oscars 2019 ceremony: Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson, David Rawlings, Gillian Welch will perform original song nominees
Chris Beachum
February 1, 2019 Oscar officials have been very secretive about the 91st annual Academy Awards ceremony slated for February 24 on ABC. But we now know five of the performers who will take the stage to sing Best Original Song nominees. According to their official Twitter account, expect the following production numbers: – Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga singing “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” www.goldderby.com/article/2019/oscars-2019-ceremony-bradley-cooper-lady-gaga-jennifer-hudson-original-song/

I actually disagree with Shallow’s thread being locked in the pop forum. Are threads commonly locked for songs that happen to be purged from that format but are performing well elsewhere? Seems strange to me tbh, considering how so much of the discussion of every other song in there centers around streams and sales, both of which Shallow is excelling in right now. I can understand the song is no longer relevant in the CHR/Pop perspective but if discussion is limited on that basis, we wouldn’t let people talk about other sources of success for songs in the CHR/Pop forum. We’d simply say “can you talk about the streaming numbers in the album thread please?? They’re not relevant here.”

I kinda understand it, however it's a shame that vivid thread is locked just because the song is not is doing well on airplay format. Shallow is a pop hit, and will probably be even bigger pop hit in next couple of months, no matter how the airplay on CHR turns out. I expect it to have second life after Grammys and Oscars, would be disgrace if it didn't.

Most of the times, a thread in the CHR/Pop forum is considered as the main single thread (whether or not a song is pushed to other radio formats) because that part of the board tends to get a lot of traction and the discussion is usually about everything: radio, streaming, sales, etc.. With this premise, I'm not saying that discussion should be limited to radio performance in the CHR/Pop forum and/or any other radio format forums because this isn't going to happen and there are going to be other topics to be discussed there, like the aforementioned streaming and sales stats, as long as the song is active at radio and this is something that "Shallow" isn't right now.

You can say it did pretty good on Hot AC, and it looks to be surging a bit on AC, but it was not a hit on Pop.

It had a decent chart run for what it was and most would say it underperformed compared to every other platform it has performed on.

#20 on Pop for a country flavored soundtrack song ain't bad. We all wanted it to be her comeback into CHR's top 10 but it didn't flop.
Plus you have people like Billie Eilish (sp?) proving that radio ignoring you doesn't actually mean you're flopping.
I think this is her biggest hit since Edge of Glory and CHR will probably regret paying it relative dust when it becomes a classic.

Also, by "pop hit" I meant a popular song that's under the genre pop. Airplay is only one factor (Shallow is #1 on sales currently and top 40 on streaming).

Bradley Cooper says he has ‘death wish’ for saying yes to live Oscars duet with Lady Gaga Cicero Estrella February 4, 2019 Bradley Cooper probably wishes the Oscars had stood firm against Lady Gaga’s ultimatum, which would have taken Bradley off the hook from a live performance of their Oscar-nominated song “Shallow” on this year’s Academy Awards broadcast. As part of the award show’s revamped format, producers were reportedly planning on having only two of the five best original song nominees performed during this year’s Feb. 24 telecast. “Shallow” was one of the songs chosen, but Gaga reportedly balked at the idea and was ready to turn down the invitation to perform if three of the other nominated songs were shut out. So the Oscars relented, and Cooper is back on the schedule to duet with Gaga, and the actor admitted that the idea of singing live in front of a TV audience of millions really freaks him out. “Yes! It’s terrifying — absolutely,” Cooper told Extra. “I was like, ‘Why? I must have some sort of death wish!'” It won’t be the first time that Cooper joins Gaga for a live rendition of the song from his “A Star Is Born” reboot. Cooper, 44, was in the audience at a recent performance during Gaga’s Las Vegas residency when she called him up to the stage to perform “Shallow.” Cooper can take solace in that the Vegas crowd was enthusiastic over their impromptu performance. “I just had to like, Zen out and just pray that I wouldn’t ruin her show,” said Cooper, according to the Daily Mail. “Because, think about it, she just crushed it for two hours…and I thought, ‘Please let me just be on pitch.'” Cooper and Gaga, 32, both received Oscar nominations for their lead performances in “A Star is Born.” The film is also nominated for best picture. www.mercurynews.com/2019/02/04/bradley-cooper-says-he-has-death-wish-for-saying-yes-to-live-oscars-duet-with-lady-gaga/

Aww, he did fine during that performance. I must admit, when I sing it, I find it easier to sing Gaga’s part. Bradley’s verse is too low for me.

So I guess of Gaga's 6 Grammy awards that she's won already, they're all in different categories and her 5 nominees this year are in different categories from the ones she's already won in. So if she sweeps this year, all 11 of her awards would be from different categories. Isn't that crazy? (to be fair, one of her awards was Pop Female Solo Vocal Performance which was melted into Pop Vocal Performance or whatever Joanne is up for).
