That chorus melody to "To Love You More" is so iconic. I cannot get this song out of my head, and I don't ever want to!

#3TO BE REVEALED Falling Into You (1996)Points: TBA Standard Deviation: TBA Median: TBA Average: TBA Range: TBA
#2"That's The Way It Is" All The Way... A Decade of Song (1999)Points: 960 Standard Deviation: 7.9 Median: 6 Average: 9.3 Range: 30 ChartsCanada: #5 | Hot 100: #6 | CHR/Pop: #3 Celine's first actual hits collection consisted of 9 hits and 7 new songs. It's a strategy that worked because All The Way would go on to sell over 8 million copies in the US, a million in Canada and well over 17 million around the world. A lot of great songs were left off of it but the hits that were included were essential - plus the first new track was one of her biggest hits as well, the Max Martin produced That's The Way It Is. It marked a bit of a shift in Celine's sound from standard love ballads to modern pop, and with Britney and Backstreet Boys dominating the charts, this song fit right in. I chose to reveal #2 first because its placement was such a surprise for me compared to the two Falling Into You singles. If I had revealed #3 first, the result would be more obvious - at least to me. Which one takes the prize?!?

Interesting reveal strategy... "That's The Way It Is" is yet another perfect song, and I am thrilled to see it in the top 2!!!! When I think of Celine's top songs, this is always immediately one of the first ones I think of, so it definitely deserves this lofty placement So now it's between "Because You Loved Me" and "It's All Coming Back To Me Now".... I still say IACBTMN needs to take this!!!! "Because You Loved Me" for #3, and "Back To Me Now" for #1!!!!!

I have not the slightest clue but I do agree that if you'd revealed either song as #3, it would have been obvious what #1 was.

#3"Because You Loved Me" Falling Into You (1996)Points: 939 Standard Deviation: 6.1 Median: 9 Average: 10.2 Range: 19 ChartsCanada: #1 | Hot 100: #1 | CHR/Pop: #1 As a Celine fan, early-to-mid 1996 was probably the most exciting time to follow her chart trajectory. The Power of Love could have been more-or-less a fluke and she could have just trailed off from there as far as I knew, but then Because You Loved Me came out and it rocketed to #1 - where it spent 6 weeks on the Hot 100, 7 weeks on CHR/Pop, a single week in Canada, and a record 19 weeks on the AC chart. That's when I knew she was here to stay and I think that's when she crossed the line from star to superstar (later to reach megastar status in 1998). Like Beauty and the Beast and My Heart Will Go On, Because You Loved Me served as both the lead single to one of her albums and a song from a film - this one from Upclose and Personal. It was nominated for Song and Record of the Year at the Grammys (losing both to Change The World by Eric Clapton), Female Pop Vocal (which it lost to Un-Break My Heart by Toni Braxton), along with the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Original Song (losing both to You Must Love Me from Evita). It did win the Grammy for Best Song Written for Film, which went to songwriter Diane Warren.
This song has the smallest range with one #1 and the lowest person ranking it at #20, thus also giving it the smallest standard deviation. Troublemaker 1 someguy 2 johnm1120 2 BackwoodsBarbie 2 castleoblivion26 4 β

I find this song so fascinating, but the song itself and the chart performance of it - and I've gushed about this before. Celine might be known for her paint-by-numbers traditionally standard plain love songs, yet one of her biggest hits is a power ballad that defies pretty well all of those norms. It's so weird to think about the safest of safe pop stars releasing an anticipated album where the first single is a 7 and a half minute power ballad that doesn't stick with the usual verse-chorus structure. It's even more crazy to think that that very song was released as the second single, albeit edited down to only 5 and a half minutes, and that it STILL goes on to be a major hit. It peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 behind the gigantic Macarena and on CHR/Pop for 7 weeks behind Donna Lewis' monster I Love You Always Forever Not only is the song an adventure, the video takes it to new levels of wonderful! It has the most #1s and Top 10 placements with 5 and 19 respectively. someguy 1 johnm1120 1 Who The Hell Is Leo?β 1 Kurt 1 Az Paynter 1 mamooshka 2 Juanca 2 soulfulwings 2 toomuchboy 2 Glove Slap 2 BackwoodsBarbie 3 Rose Wintur 3 kmbgs 3 @walker9 3 bboat11 3 God 3 Troublemaker 4 castleoblivion26 5 bat1990 10 KanenrΓ‘:ke 13 β

That top 20 is perfect!!! I'm so glad "That's The Way It Is" outdid my expectations.
Seriously, Celine has more than one signature song. Other artists could never.

WTF was I thinking with "To Love You More" at #13??? It could've edged out BYLM if I'd ranked it a spot or two higher - UGH

10. If You Asked Me To (15): It didn't make my personal chart back then, as I wasn't a fan of this type of ballads, but I've grown to like and appreciate this song with time, especially the melody and her vocals. 9. Where Does My Heart Beat Now (32): On the contrary, this song has always remained just 'meh' to me. 8. All By Myself (19): I really like the softness and emotional connection of the first half... but I DESPISE the out of control craziness that happens in the last minute. That 'money note' after the bridge is more like a 'give my money back' and shut the hell up! note for me as well as the ad-libs that happen afterwards. All that screamfest has always made me lose the connection with the song that at that point sorely becomes a self-indulgent exercise of vocal show-off that neither the song nor Celine needed. After the success of her first 2 singles off this album, ABM failed to reach the top 5 of my personal chart. 7. A New Day Has Come (8): This was Celine's last of more than ten visits to the top of my personal chart. This is a perfect example of a song where she showcases a lot of vocal dynamics but in a softer way. I fully get the emotional connection with her voice and the supporting dreamier or poppier production (either album or single mix) that in any case does an effective job to take me in an emotional musical journey thinking about new and better days coming. A key song that helped me through very tough moments in the past couple of decades. Thanks, Celine! 6. My Heart Will Go On (1): Honestly, I've liked this song ever since I heard it, which was before the song became the HUGE hit of the 1990s. I loved the melody, liked the lyrics, and loved the orchestral arrangement that transforms as the songs keeps going, alongside those vocals that go from tender and hopeful to strong and reflective to powerful and fearless. Her vocals are majestic here, with full emotional connection and power, but with NO OVERSINGING!! This was her longest-running personal chart-topper (4 weeks), song of the year in my personal chart, and my all-time favorite diva ballad. I can still listen to it again and go back to the feelings I had when I first heard it and I had to stop what I was doing to get immersed into the song. I knew it wasn't going to be #1, but this one skipping her top 5 is a travesty. 5. The Power of Love (13): She did a pretty good job with this cover, but I still like the slightly less abrasive vocals from Jennifer Rush better than Celine's. Sorry! But in some songs Celine's power crosses the line to oversinging/yelling, and in TPoL she has moments where her vocals go a bit too shouty for my liking. Back in the day, I preferred Mariah's Without You as her vocals were smoother, a bit more pleasant than Celine's. This one still made the top 3 of my personal chart, though, as it was still a great cover. 4. To Love You More (4): P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!!! Give me strings like this, and I'll keep my ears wide open! Give me epic production, and I'll keep seated and listening to the song many times! Give me vocals to match the dynamics, and I'll be a BIG fan! When I heard this as the 3rd single of LTAL (following TH and MHWGO in Casey's Countdown -thanks Casey!), I was an immediate fan. It became the 3rd of 4 consecutive personal chart-toppers of LTAL, and one of my favorite Celine songs I'm legit surprised but very glad this made the top 5!!!! 3. Because You Loved Me (9): This was her second personal chart-topper. A typical Diane Warren ballad where the chorus melody is just a slight modification of the melody in the verses. I did like this one, as the melody was at least stronger than other songs (eg I Turn To You, For You I Will), and her vocals were great. 2. That's The Way It Is (6): Another song I've liked since the first time I listened to it. Her crisp vocals worked in this type of Max Martin track, and that last minute or so, with the key change, made the song even better. I have some bittersweet memories from this one, as I remember playing it LOUD many times, fighting back the tears and singing at the top of my lungs to bring my spirit back after bad news about my mom's cancer back in 2001... This was another song that topped my personal chart, and a HUGE but pleasant surprise to see this at #2!!! 1. It's All Coming Back To Me Now (2): WTF? Are my eyes seeing well??!!!! I knew my #1 wasn't gonna win, and I thought I had no chance my #2 will get high even. So... YAAAYYYYYY!!!!!! Another song that I liked from first listen. A multi-week personal chart-topper. As a big fan of Jim Steinman singles Dead Ringer for Love, Making Love Out of Nothing At All, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Holding Out for A Hero, I'd Do Anything For Love, Rock'n Roll Dreams Come Through, Objects in the Rear View Mirror...., I knew I was going to like a song like this. And this one never disappointed. It's such a musical journey where production, lyrics, lead and background vocals all work together to produce MAGIC. It was an unusual song that I think worked perfectly to showcase all the dynamics of Celine's vocals and a different, much more adventurous side of her as a pop artist --and I LOVED her even more for taking such a risk! Very exciting time, and the moment I decided to get my stan card Thanks, Rose Wintur for hosting this RD!!! Lots of great music and interesting information throughout the reveals!! I lost some hair, got more gray hair, got sick, recovered, sick again, did like a dozen trips, changed bosses, but at least it's finished before the year is over!! Congrats to finishing before the Madonna RD!!
