Next up is one of Celine's soundtrack songs!
...but chances are, you know nothing about the song, the fact that it's from a movie, or the movie itself....! Details to come!

Not sure I can listen to "Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)" anymore without it upsetting me, but I always liked it. I might rank "Then You Look At Me" above it now β there's something about either the chord structure or the production that I always dug.

No useful clue for the next song but it loses just one Top 10 and 3 Top 20s and the lowest is a #43. Plus, @antigonerising might be happy. Happy that you guys have stopped pretending it's Friday the 13th and playing Jason with my top 10 for a second??? Yes, I appreciate that very much.

Sad to see "The Prayer" so low. I actually love the Quest For Camelot version because she's solo and there's only English lyrics.

Awww... "Then You Look At Me" was the centerpiece of my repertoire when I was a vocalist in high school. It's such a lovely song and Celine doesn't over-sing it like she does with some other ballads.

Five more reveals representing a range of Celine's material from early on to relatively recent. We start with a cover of a major hit song!

#25"Alone"Taking Chances (2007)Points: 524 Standard Deviation: 13.1 Median: 31 Average: 28.2 Range: 44 ChartsCanada: #57 | Hot 100: N/C | CHR/Pop: N/C Alone is one of my favourite 80s songs so hearing that Celine was doing a cover of it for her album Taking Chances, I wasn't sure she could pull it off. Not because she couldn't hit the notes because let's be real, Celine can hit any note anywhere. But her voice is so crystal smooth that I couldn't imagine it performed without the signature rawness of Ann Wilson's vocals. I'm still obviously partial to Heart's cover but Celine does it justice, making it her own without deviating too far from the original (though she could have done more with it perhaps). It was released as the second single from Taking Chances in North America - following 8 months after the first smh. kmbgs 6 .indulgecountry 8 castleoblivion26 8 someguy 9 Az Paynter 17 bboat11 19 Leo β 19 @walker9 20 BackwoodsBarbie 23 KanenrΓ‘:ke 26 Juanca 31 soulfulwings 31 God 33 Troublemaker 34 Devil Marlena Nylund 34 @antigonerising 35 toomuchboy 36 Glove Slap 38 Kurt 39 johnm1120 42 bat1990 43 JOJO SIWA DERANGEMENT SYNDROME 48 mamooshka 50

She sounds spectacular on those high notes in the chorus. Still, I prefer her original material to covers for the most part.

#24"Love Can Move Mountains"Celine Dion (1992)Points: 539 Standard Deviation: 13.8 Median: 28 Average: 27.6 Range: 40 ChartsCanada: #2 | Hot 100: #36 | CHR/Pop: #14 I was about to express my surprise at this being as low as it is until I saw that even I had it at #19 in my rankdown so there's so many classics to come. Back before Celine became every soccer grandma's dream, she was the soccer mom dream and this video is the definition of early 90s soccer goodness, from the breakdancers to Celine ripping off her shirt (with sound effects!) and dancing in a bra top while playing basketball. This was as traditionally cool as Celine ever got and MuchMusic LOVED this video. If they still played music videos, they'd probably still be airing this occasionally. This was the fourth single from the album and in addition to being a Top 10 in Canada, it also reached #5 on Billboard's Dance Club charts. The club mix also won the Juno Award for Best Dance Recording in 1993 while the original was nominated for Single of the Year. I'm surprised "Alone" lasted this long, tbh! I love her version so much, but the original is very difficult to top. I think that the song does better with a raw, rockier edge to it, as stated in the write-up, and Celine's pop version is a little too clean and sterile. Which it didn't have to be, because Celine isn't afraid to use loud guitars and put a little edge into her voice...

#23"The Reason"Let's Talk About Love (1997)Points: 547 Standard Deviation: 12.2 Median: 30 Average: 27.2 Range: 46 ChartsCanada: N/C | Hot 100: N/C | CHR/Pop: N/C Celine really went all out on her Let's Talk About Love album when it came to collaborations. From the vocal collabs to the songwriters including this one, co-written by THE Carole King and produced by THE Sir George Martin. And this was just the album's first track! The song was intended for Aerosmith. Probably would have suited them around this time too. The Reason was released as a double-A-sided single with My Heart Will Go On in France while a select other few European countries got it as the album's second single. Naturally, it hit #1 in France but as its own single, it reached #11 in the UK and #13 in Ireland, Scotland and Spain. This is the second song in a row led by Kurt. That's it for this group. The next couple contains a few bigger hits and we're inching closer toward our first #1 loss! Who will be the first to lose their #1? 2 will before we reach the Top 10.

Oh!! It was back on!! I didn't realize -as my eyesight got blurrier and my hair got whiter since the last update 39. How Does A Moment Last Forever (34): She sounds GREAT here. I wish the song had been stronger, though. It was a bit too bland for me. 38. You And I (33): Nice pop/AC Celine, but that's it: nice... bland... 37. Any Other Way (40): I hadn't heard this one. I really like the production (ala Johny Hates Jazz) but I didn't like the melody as much. 36. Water From the Moon (47): Another discovery. Overall, I just didn't like the melody. Clear bottom 5 for me. 35. Treat Her Like A Lady (17): Not surprised I'm in the top 5 rankers for this one. I REALLY liked this one back in the day, though. It was super fun, with good production and of course DK was already great following her handful of her hits in the late 1990s. I appreciated her venturing into a different genre and doing it with her own touch. She SANG the! 34. Have You Ever Been In Love (44): The melody was ok but a bit schmaltzy for me, especially back in 2002. I didn't like her vocals that much either (a bit too screamy in some parts). 33. The Power Of The Dream (50): I'm sorry but this one was just TOO CHEESY. 32. Immortality (3): BOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was love at first listen!! I'm a big Bee Gees fan, and this sounded like a BG track all and all. Celine sounded lovely, from the clear and emotional verses to the stronger and heartfelt pre-chorus and chorus. The music was also great as the BG vocals. Her vocals were more subdued, which I also really like for a change after several singles where she had much more intense vocals. She sang with A LOT of emotion, though, and the production complemented her voice perfectly. This was her 4th multi-week personal chart-topper in a row, which made LTAL one of the biggest albums era in my personal chart --especially after Treat Her and The Reason also made my top 5. I thought I was gonna be amongst its highest ranker, but I didn't think it was going to be in the lower half of the RD. WTF?!!! 31. Miles To Go (49): This was always a song I could skip from LTAL. I don't like the melody in the chorus at all, so that's a big NO for me.

IWYTNM never charted (or was never released) here. I know it 'cause of the Thunderpuss remixes.

IWYTNM was one of the dumbest moves on Sony's part in the U.S. It was the most added single the week it was released, and the next week Sony pulled it when it was at #51 on Pop.
Only One Road, one of the best songs from TCOML.

Which it didn't have to be, because Celine isn't afraid to use loud guitars and put a little edge into her voice... This. Ann Wilson delivered one of the most raw, impassioned vocals in the chorus of what would be their biggest hit. While CΓ©line served up her usual pitch perfect vocals, the soul and magic were all but stripped from the earlier version. With all due respect, there was never a need to cover this song then, or ever again - Heart nailed it in 1987. Attachment Deleted

30. Next Way Out (45): Yes, please, let's see more of my bottom 10! I hadn't heard this song before, and the melody just didn't click much with me. 29. The Prayer (7): :( :( :'( I loved this song since I first heard it. At that time I was already a Bocelli fan, and I had charted a few songs from him in my personal chart. TP was a great combination of vocals with a very nice, timeless melody, especially in the chorus. It was another personal char-topper from Celine, who was rivaling with Mariah Carey and Madonna in terms of female artists with most personal chart-toppers in the 1990s. Back home, I voted for this song as my favorite song to win the Oscars --my mom voted for When You Believe. 28. Nothing Broken But My Heart (48): I did know about this song, as it played in AT40, but I didn't like it back then, and still doesn't do anything for me now. 27. Goodbye (30): If the melody in the chorus were better, this would be in my top 20. When I listen to the verses, especially how she sings "mama", I can easily cry I hadn't heard this song in some time, and when I did it for this RD, the first minute shook me, as did the last few seconds. 26. Then You Look At Me (18): This was such a clear single-to-be! Dramatic, strong. One of my faves from All The Way. 25. Alone (31): Similar thoughts as those from our host. Heart's Alone is one of my favorite 1980s songs and rock ballads ever. That was a GREAT cover that reinvented and redefined the song. Celine's was not. She did a great job with vocals, but that's not difficult for her! I just felt that it was too much like a Heart wannabe. Even the same high notes in the second chorus and the final Alones, but with less grit and despair and less rock edge as Heart's version. The strings section was a nice touch, but then I'd rather see her go that orchestral direction all the way and do a more classic version of it than the final result. Still, her version is not bad and her vocals are great, that's why it managed to make it this far in my RD, but this was another example of what I call 'useless covers'. 24. Love Can Move Mountains (46): YAAYYY!!! Finally cleared my bottom 5. This is just another type of cheese that I'm a bit allergic to. I wasn't a fan of this back in the day, either. To be fair none of the songs from her self-titled made my top 25 personal chart, although IYAMT was very close... 23. The Reason (26): This made the top 5 of my personal chart as the 6th single of this huge era. I didn't know it was a Carole King song :O I guess I never read the credits of my brother's CD A good rocker from Celine! That's what I loved about her and LTAL: such a diverse catalogue of strong songs! 22. Only One Road (21): I remember hearing this song in Casey's Countdown--and liking it enough. It was a very minor hit in my personal chart as I was more into Alternative, dance and pop than pure AC, but this was a solid effort from Celine that I've liked much more with time. 21. I Want You To Need Me (25): johnm1120 I didn't know this was pulled as a single? Why? How come? Geez!! I was always surprised at why ATW wasn't a stronger era, but now I see there were a few WTF moments. Celine goes a bit the screamy route here, but the melody and production compensates for it to me.
