I am guessing they will release Love Wins next week to hype the album. And for radio since Cry Pretty will have peaked by then so announcing a new adds date might be a good idea.
Now one can dream that she included End Up With You because they are releasing that one as well in Europe as the new "pop" single ;)

There is a Max Spins Now ad for "Cry Pretty" in Country Aircheck Today tonight. How does this work? Like, because there's an ad suddenly stations play it more? I don't even know how people take radio seriously at this point.

I don't even know how people take radio seriously at this point. The ad basically says this is our final week promoting this song so please bump it up rotation wise and next week we (the label) will be done promoting it so you can drop it after this week.

I agree. It is time to move onto single #2. I would also take the opportunity to let everyone know the album drops on the fourteenth of September. A #10 peaking single is nothing for Carrie Underwood to be ashamed.

I'm more than ready for a new single but I wish they had waited to push this in another week or two (if this song even had that in it) when the boys fighting in the top 5 right now would be falling.

I mean, would the return on investment, so to speak, be worth another week or two of promo? The entire point of releasing radio singles is to promote tours and albums, I think the single did just that in the best way that it could... Forcing it up the chart wouldn't serve the album, tour, or Carrie any better or worse. So at this point I think the label is making the right call, let's move on. Looking forward to the second single!!!

I’m bummed it didn’t go higher, but this era won’t be about the final rank of this single, but the album and tour.

I think Carrie has made it clear that this album isn’t about going #1 and what not, but rather her progression as an artist and being more involved with her music.
I would’ve liked CP to have peaked higher, but based on this morning’s Mediabase numbers, radio was ready to let it go and move on. From Sunday into Monday, the song lost 3-4 million AI. I’ve accepted the fact that her top 3/top 5 streak is broken, but glad her top 10 streak is going strong. Numbers and sales mean little to Carrie at this point in her career and as an established artist, she doesn’t have to hit #1 with every song in order to be successful.
The CP era is going to be one of artistic development and growth and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album in a few weeks!

I hope the rest the album is better then cry pretty IKR? She really doesn't have good first singles for this and last era... worst ones... I love CP. it just doesnt resonate with people and radio won't play an extremely feminine song. I think the song does it job of telling people that Carrie is back and a new album is coming up. The next single , which i believe will be Love Wins, will be their big gun.

Capitol has pulled promotion for this. It peaked at #6 on Mediabase, #9 on Billboard Country Airplay, and #5 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs.

She definitely has shot a music video for it, but we don’t know for sure it’s the second single. There was some banner ad that included it along with “The Champion” and “Cry Pretty” as featured tracks though, so signs point to yes.

I think it's safe to say, unless you see a single thread started here for a song, nothing is ever "for sure." But all signs are pointing that way.

I’m ‘impressed’ with speed that radio is dropping this (makes KU’s drop look modest):
5 22 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Cry Pretty Capitol Nashville 1,362 2,710 -49.7%
Looks like the 40%+ drop after Max Spins is the new norm.

I think only for songs that radio didn't want to spin that high in the first place. If you look at "Get Along" it's just chillin' up in the top 10 still. The artificial pushes aren't good for artists long-term. (Note: I realize it has literally no effect on artists like KU and CU but more so for the newer ones)

CP was middling around on Top 10 fringe for weeks. - for the lead single from CU, that showed it was not being embraced. However, the normal drops from the usual Max Spins has been 20-25%, but that’s all changed. GA is an exception., but it was purged from the chart two weeks after hitting the top (and I think it was in Top 5 still - that’s just ridiculous.

Also, important to note, Carrie is female and radio has an aversion. They will drop her quickly.

@adam1995
I seriously doubt radio will drop Carrie Underwood as a whole anytime soon at all, even though she is female. One single getting a Top 10 finish doesn't mean she's anywhere close to done radio success wise.
It was just that this song will not work as a radio single in 2018 or really any time at all and has nothing to do with the artist or gender itself. I feel like if any artist like Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett, etc. would have released a song similar to this in terms of production, and sonic nature it would have met a similar fate.
