"Beautiful Day For Goodbye" is just such a classic-sounding George Strait song. This is one of those songs that would have fit in on literally any album, and could have been a #1 hit regardless of when it was released, had it been sent to radio. This theme of wishing for bad weather because it would make it harder to call it quits is a little bit outlandish and unrealistic, but at the same time it makes for some very evocative lyrics. There is a hint of the same imagery that came from Queen Reba's masterful "For My Broken Heart", about how the world just keeps on going happily on its way regardless of how bad you are feeling. Of course it's not as good as THAT song, but it is still a really good song. I am pleased to see it do reasonably well here, because it has always been one of my favorites.

While I enjoy the chorus on "Beautiful Day for Goodbye" I just find the song kind of ho-hum overall. I'm actually kind of surprised it made it this far, but I'm becoming even more puzzled by some of your rankings on George's albums bboat11 ... I don't know, other than my admittedly weird rank for "El Rey", I think I'm doing a bit less floppy on this album than you are

"The Breath You Take" should have done better, but other than that, not at all upset with how this is playing out!

I have always been a tad surprised by the love for "Easy As You Go". I remember people fawning over it like it was the best album track of his career when this album came out... I LIKE the song, but imo it is hella overrated. There is not an album track on this album that should be considered anywhere remotely close to among the best of his entire career... I am a tad surprised to see this song miss the top 5, but I will take that perfect rank!!!

I actually agree with bboat11 that “Easy As You Go” is a bit of an overrated album track and am ok seeing it miss the top 5. I also think in hindsight this isn’t a song George would record again. I probably underranked “He’s Got That Something Special” a bit but I’m glad it made its way into the top 5! 1. Living For The Night 2. Gotta Get To You 3. Twang 4. He's Got That Something Special 5. Out of Sight Out of Mind

I'd be a little surprised his judgement would change that quickly, cause I still consider this to be one of his newer albums! Lol

Sad to see "Beautiful Day for Goodbye" go, but the rest of the reveals didn't upset me, especially seeing "The Breath You Take" finally get the boot. It is so dreary, trite, and melodically clunky. One of the worst things he's ever attached his name to.
My stab at top 5 predictions:
1. Living for the Night 2. Gotta Get to You 3. Out of Sight Out of Mind 4. He's Got That Something Special 5. Twang

What? I thought something like "Yes, The Breath You Take is gonna finish top 3" and... well. The facts are there :( In his singles rankdown that featured 100 songs, it came in at #89. "Twang" actually placed even lower in that one though, so I'm very thankful that it's outlasted "Breath" in this one. <3

Lol I can’t quite pinpoint why I think George would pass on a song like this now, but it might have to do with the lyric Graduation night, out behind the stands In the fading light he became a man. Prior to the release of the album iTunes had a 30 second preview of the song up (remember those days?!) and it was a clip of just the chorus and I remember thinking that this was for sure going to be a single at some point...fast forward to the full release of the song and I kind of changed my tune on that. But no I don’t think George has mentioned anything about this particular song...the only one that does come to mind that he has mentioned he probably wouldn’t even consider today is “You Know Me Better Than That”.

Never knew how good I had it. Never do ‘til you don’t have it. I’d give anything to have her back. It hurts me to admit that He’s got what I never knew I had. He’s got that somethin’ special, But that somethin’ special used to be mine.

Kicking off the top 5, we lose "He's Got That Something Special". As you can see, this song was never exactly a top 5 contender... It was on pace to finish in the 7-10 range, but managed to luck out and leap up to the top 5 right at the very end, mostly due to how close everything in the middle of this rankdown was together. I have always loved this song, so no complaints seeing it in the top 5 I am a little shocked though, mostly because I figured other album tracks like "Easy As You Go" would be more popular...

I always heard people say it, But I guess I never fully understood it. I’ve thought that they meant You’d be easy to forget. But it’s drivin’ me crazy.

I'm literally stunned that "Twang" made it to the top 3 of this thing considering how poorly it did in his singles rankdown and knowing that it was one of his most polarizing singles. I'm expecting it to be next to go ahead of the two big hits from the record, but wow... I thought it would be out somewhere in the like 6-9 range or something, lol. Pleasantly surprised! Also I love that the best album track was indeed the final one standing. "Out of Sight Out of Mind" is wonderful.

There you have it! "Out Of Sight Out Of Mind" bows out at #4, as the final album track, leaving us with the album's remaining three singles in the top 3. This is a song that was a last place contender after tim and I finished with it, and then rebounded with the help of George Strait Junkie's #3 followed by ClevelandRox's #1, and was in the top 5 literally the rest of the submission process I am SHOCKED to see so much love for this song! It has always been a song that gets completely lost in the shuffle to me... The melody just kinda plods, and the lyrics are simply not very well fleshed out. The hook hints at the fact that there is supposed to be a double-entendre with the phrase "out of sight, out of mind", where he thinks it means she'll be easy to forget, but in actuality her not being in his sight is driving him out of his mind; but I have never felt like it was fully put together. You have to study the lyrics and reach that conclusion on your own to "get it" after the first verse, but then the entendre is completely abandoned the rest of the song. I would like it much better if the songwriting was up to the witty standard the song felt like it was trying to live up to!

When I get off of work on Friday After workin’ like a dog all week, I go to meet the boys for a cold one At a little joint up the street. They got a jukebox in the corner Full of old country tunes. Feed it five dollars’ worth of quarters Is the first thing I always do.
