You can add me to the list of those who are thrilled to see the title track do so well here! "Twang" is such an underrated, fun song! Definitely can see where it is not a favorite among his best songs of all time, but it is still a very nice way to kick off this album, and imo makes a lot of sense being a single compared to a lot of the other uptempo on this album. .indulgecountry and gardyfan both lose a #1 here, but imo can't be too mad because this did WAY better than I though it would!!

So it all comes down to the album's two biggest hits! "Living For The Night" versus "I Gotta Get To You". Neither of which managed to hit #1 on the charts, but definitely should have... :'(

I've never understood the appeal of "Living for the Night." I don't dislike it, but I've just always found it to be very meh compared to a lot of his stuff. Not surprised at all that it won here either. Obvious winner was obvious.

LMAO this one wasn't even CLOSE!!!! Talk about a massacre! "Living For The Night" comes in with a whopping 7 #1 placements, and boasting almost 1/2 the total score of "I Gotta Get To You"... And with that final reveal, one question has finally been answered. The lowest ranker for "Living For The Night" was in fact .indulgecountry, as predicted by tim! However, what I am sure nobody expected is that he would be the only person to not have it in his top 4! I guess at least it was in his top 10? Still, there's not really an excuse Also, how about LBTrocks getting a perfect ranking for the entire top 3, in addition to predicting the entire top 5 correctly!!!!

It really is a shame that "Living For The Night" fell short of #1 on all the charts. I always think of this song right alongside all his #1s, and then have to remind myself that it never actually made it there... That #2 peak hurts! Lol The strength of this song definitely comes from the lyrics. The portrayal of a man who is so badly wounded emotionally that he can only make it through the day thanks to the hope of getting to go out at night and drown his sorrows is one of the most evocative lyrical moments of George's career. The whole thing is sad enough as it is, but when you consider the rumors that it may have been written about his late daughter who was killed in a car crash as a young teen, it becomes downright heartbreaking. George rarely has ever let fans see his true emotions regarding Jenifer's death, so I think this song is extra special to fans because of its cathartic meaning for George. Thank you all for following along and participating!! I had a lot of fun with this set. Now let's bring on Something Special and Troubadour!!!!

So glad to see “Living For The Night” get so much support and it’s hands down the best track on the album and also one of George’s best singles he’s released since the turn of the century. It’s always been a song that I’ve been able to relate to personally and I can’t tell you how often I end up closing my eyes when listening to this because I can really feel the pain in some of the lyrics. “Out of Sight Out of Mind” was the biggest surprise of the rankdown and I have to agree with bboat11 that this is one that really gets lost in the shuffle. For the most part I enjoy the chorus, but otherwise I don’t quite get how this ended up being the highest ranking album track since that probably should’ve gone to “He’s Got That Something Special” in my opinion. Whenever we get to the album tracks rankdown I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that reversed. I’m very excited for the next round and I’m very interested to see how everyone ranks Something Special since it’s often one of George’s overlooked albums from the 80s.

I think I am one of the five people that use Tidal, but just realized that Tidal doesn't have the Troubadour album which is odd because (without counting) it looks like they have every other George album.

Oh great just enough time for LBTrocks to pull some last minute shenanigans I have no idea what to expect from y’all with the Something Special album and am curious to see everyone’s thoughts about each song. I’m not sure I appreciated this album as much back when I was younger and discovering George’s discography but it’s one that I’ve grown to appreciate more and more now.

collinkottke , don't start sleeping on King George now!!!!!! I'm listening to both these albums (again) all day today! Typical me, I procrastinated until Friday... Well, I had re-listened to them both before Friday, but not enough to truly feel comfortable ranking them... Then I couldn't stop listening to Honky Tonk Time Machine all weekend... So I'll be submitting today!
