I don't think I'll be able to come up with a fair ranking for #7 on my part, so go ahead and tag me in results. I'll give the album a listen some time this upcoming week.

I plan on submitting for It Just Comes Natural as well (already did #7) tonight, but if you don't get a list from me it'll be in tomorrow for sure.

1) What will be #1? “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her” should be the winner but I don’t really know what to expect for this album
2) What will be #10? I could see “Cow Town” or “Deep Water” coming in at or near the bottom 2
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her”, “Rhythm of the Road”, and “I’m Never Gonna Let You Go” are all top five worthy...as for the last remaining spots I wouldn’t mind seeing either “You Still Get to Me” or “My Old Flame Is Burnin’ Another Honky Tonk Down” make it in
4) What song will be most polarizing? I have no idea lol...let’s go with “It Ain’t Cool To Be Crazy About You” Least polarizing? “Rhythm of the Road” or even “Cow Town” if everyone ranks it at or near the bottom
5) Which of the singles will place highest and where will it place? “Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her” and I’m hoping in the top 2
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? I could see “It Ain’t Cool To Be Crazy About You” missing the top 5 for sure
7) What will be the highest-placing album track and where will it place? “Rhythm of the Road” and in the top 3
8) Any predictions for which 5 album tracks will place highest, making it into the album tracks rankdown? “Rhythm of the Road”, “I’m Never Gonna Let You Go”, “My Old Flame Is Burnin’ Another Honky Tonk Down”, “You Still Get To Me”, and even though I predicted above it might be somewhere near the bottom I’d actually like to see “Deep Water” make it in
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? My first introduction to this album actually came in the form of a VHS tape as George released a live concert taping called George Strait: Live! that was recorded from his 1986 New Year’s Eve concert in Dallas. I remember him singing a few album tracks from #7 including “Deep Water” and “Rhythm of the Road” so I got to know both of those songs quite well. And while this isn’t one of George’s better known albums of the 80’s (and might be his shortest coming in at 27 minutes!) it’s still an enjoyable listen and George’s voice was really starting to smooth out at this point in his career. It’s also worth noting that this album wasn’t even out 8 months before they moved on to releasing Ocean Front Property!
And on a side note the album was released only a month before the passing of George’s daughter Jenifer (which will be 34 years tomorrow) so I’d like to pay special tribute to her memory and send thoughts and prayers to the Strait family as I’m sure this time of year is never easy for them.

1) What will be #1? “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her”
2) What will be #10? “Deep Water”, and even this song isn't bad it's just not that exciting IMO. This really is a fine album
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her”, "Why'd You Go and Break My Heart", "It Aint Cool To Be Crazy About You" “My Old Flame Is Burnin’ Another Honky Tonk Down” and perhaps "You Still Get To Me"
4) What song will be most polarizing? "Cow Town"? Least polarizing? "Nobody"
5) Which of the singles will place highest and where will it place? “Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her” for the win
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? I hope not. I really enjoy “It Ain’t Cool To Be Crazy About You”
7) What will be the highest-placing album track and where will it place? “Why'd You Go And Break My Heart" in the Top 3. I'm guessing the #2 ranked song will be an album track
8) Any predictions for which 5 album tracks will place highest, making it into the album tracks rankdown? “Why'd You Go And Break My Heart ”, “My Old Flame Is Burnin’ Another Honky Tonk Down”, and “You Still Get To Me” are the three I'm thinking will do best. Have no clue about the other two
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? Really strong album IMO. Surprised he only went two singles deep for a few of his albums.

1) What will be #1? Nobody In His Right Mind Would Have Left Her.
2) What will be #10? Cow Town.
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? My top 5 belongs in the top 5. Period. :kii:
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? "Nobody In His Right Mind Would Have Left Her" for least polarizing and "Honky Tonk"/"Rhythm Of The Road" for most polarizing.
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her, It Ain't Cool To Be Crazy About You)
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? No.
7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? Why'd You Go And Break My Heart (picked this by default).
8) Any predictions for which 5 album tracks will place highest, making it into the album tracks rankdown??? I'm too bored to type so the ones that won't make it are "Cow Town", "You Still Get To Me" & "Deep Water".
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? I'm predicting that my predictions are so off lol.

Bowing out at #10, "You Still Get To Me" is the clear last-place finisher. This song was by no means universally-hated; in fact it managed to secure a top 5 vote from tim! However, given the culmination of all the ranks, this one was never able to escape the bottom 3, and was the clear last-place contender for the second half of the submission process. I don't dislike this song, but I certainly never feel super motivated to revisit it. The verse melody is a little bit off-putting, imo; I am always slightly soured by the whole song because of the fact that it opens with a cold open of that weird dissonant melody... It works in the context of the whole song, but not when you hear it for the very first time and don't know what the melody is supposed to sound like.

I’m drifting into deep water. I’m startin’ to care for you. You’re gettin’ me in deep water. Be careful what you do.
You want a romance, but I’m seekin’ love. I know I’ll regret it when it ends. I’m winding up in deep water. Why can’t we just be friends?

Usually album rankdowns seem to more or less start taking shape around the time you get 5-6 lists, and by the time you hit 10-12 it is pretty hard to change things. That was not the case with this album! I feel like it would have been interesting to double our participant base and see how all of these songs ended up... In the case of "Cow Town", this song was holding steady in the top 5 for the majority of the rankdown! Unfortunately, the back half of the album was ranked SO close together, born's #8 rank was enough to push this backwards all the way from #5 to #8 at the last minute!!!! Talk about a devastating blow! Both "Deep Water" and "Cow Town" are songs that seem to have deceptively simple melodies, and yet have a tendency to get stuck in my head for days on end whenever I listen to them. I am surprised to see them both end up in the bottom of this rankdown, as I personally find them to be more memorable than some of the album tracks that are left.

By the way, the reason Jim's list ws able to have such a huge effect on the back half of this list is because those songs were suuuuuper close together! In fact, #9-#7 are all tied! "Deep Water" lost the tie because its lowest rank was #3, whereas "Cow Town" finished second in the tie because its highest rank was only a #2... #7 will be the winner of the tie! It will come tomorrow, because at this point we are down to the 2 singles as well as the 5 album tracks that will be moving on to a future album tracks rankdown!

Let your hair fall across your breast. Show me the warmth of your soft caress. The music’s playin’ soft and slow. We’re driftin’ into the afterglow.

I have always loved "I'm Never Gonna Let You Go" I'm not totally sure why, but for some reason this ballad has always felt incredibly sexy to me. Like, this is one of those songs I can't wait to get a wife so I can dance with her to this song someday! :) I was disappointed to see so much hate come its way, but fortunately there were enough correct rankers to help it at least make the list of the top 5 album tracks!

Also, random factoid for you. At 3 minutes and 11 seconds, "I'm Never Gonna Let You Go" is the longest song on this album

I felt very underwhelmed by this album as a whole tbh. I didn't love anything and not sure I would revisit much from it. That being said I did like my Top 3 and those 3 deserved Top 5. Of course that included the two singles and "I'm Never Gonna Let You Go" and I wish that had made it.

I will give people like a day to work on prediction questions, so as long as you didn't take any longer than tomorrow, you would still be able to make it

I don't outright dislike anything, but there really aren't any album tracks here that rival his all-time best. Basically, we've just gotta get through this one so we can do It Just Comes Natural, which is easily one of my top 3 favorite albums from him And then get to his iconic '90s and early '00s albums pretty soon!

I knew that this album rankdown was going to be unpredictable but what I didn’t expect to see is for “I’m Never Gonna Let You Go” miss the top 5 altogether because it’s always been one of my go-to songs from the album. I’m also somewhat surprised to see “You Still Get To Me” out as the first song but again I really had no set expectations because for most of you this album was a first-time listen whereas I’ve literally been jamming out this record since 1992 lol. Anyways, “You Still Get To Me” is just a fun swinging laid-back country tune that I think would’ve fit perfectly well on some of George’s other 80’s albums like Right Or Wrong or Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind. Although an unpopular opinion amongst the participants, #7 is probably one of four albums that I always reach for to listen to from George’s 80’s discography and maybe it’s just a bit of a nostalgic factor since this would’ve been one of the first cassette’s I was given as a Christmas gift from my mom when I became a fan as a young boy. Fast forward to today and I'm still jamming out to this one frequently albeit on vinyl As for the top 5 I thought that the album’s second single “It Ain’t Cool to Be Crazy About You” might miss it considering it didn’t perform all that well in George’s singles rankdown but it’s deserving to have made it in. And somehow y’all seem to like my last place ranked song but I’d really like to see it be the first song out.

I'm not gonna be able to do IJCN cause I have an exam tomorrow (thankfully it's my last for this exam period). It's okay though, the man has like 30 albums. I might participate in the future :)
Now back to the "#7" results. Let's see how this is gonna go.
