A better rain. The kind that comes in off the coast and paints the sky; Lets you know that God’s alive. A better rain, That’ll wash me from your eyes so you can smile again And be alright again In a better rain.

"A Better Rain" is boring to some, but my gosh do I love the way George's voice sounds on this song! His voice is so rich, velvety, and resonant here. Especially on the "I'll miss your skin" line Not to mention that the lyrics to this song are absolutely beautiful. This song is basically poetry in music! I'm so glad to see it do fairly well here.

I’ve dropped by her momma’s stoned out of my mind Just to hear that it’s over from her one more time. As if I didn’t see that red Chevy not slowin’ down, A-loaded down, and rollin’ down our road. Yeah, she’s already left, So why can’t I leave her alone?

"Why Can't I Leave Her Alone" has been an immediate standout for me from the moment I heard it. The chorus grabs your attention, both in content and in melody. Singing about dropping by an elderly lady's house stoned out of his mind is so unlike George Lmao. Plus the way the melody suddenly jumps up pretty high at the start of the chorus totally commands your attention. The entire song is a songwriting masterpiece, tbh. The way that it describes actions that are not meant to be stalkerish, but absolutely are stalkerish, the way the prominent fiddle and steel works with the melody to create an urgent sound that somehow manages to rock out while also capturing the angst of the narrator, etc. I wrote her letters signed "I was a fool." She wrote me back saying "Go find a stool." This song is just so concise and brilliant. I had no doubt it would do well here, and I am glad to see I was not wrong!

The number of votes lower than the top 10 for "She Must Have Really Hurt You Bad" really made me sad... Lol. This song is literally perfect. It's short and consise. The lyrics are brilliantly crafted. The production is stellar. The arrangement is piano-driven, which is really a lost are these days. And to top it all off, the way the title is framed into the melody is so sneakily catchy! The way there are vivid descriptive details, followed by the title sung low in the middle of the verse, followed by more details, followed by the title sung again up high, honestly makes this one of my favorite ballads George has ever done. Not to mention that the perspective of the narrator as a bartender is naturally woven into the circumstances of the song, without feeling the need to take the focus off of the female main character. Just pure art. I am SO glad this song managed to do so well here, because I honestly had no idea what to expect! To be the second-highest album track, on an album this strong, is honestly more than I would have dared hope for!!

Ugh I was desperately hoping an album track could take out at least one single. This album has some of his best album tracks so it's a shame it couldn't happen here.

From a radio perspective yeah I can sorta agree, but I would've traded out the 3rd and 4th singles if artistic value was the only deciding factor. I wonder what would've been 5th if they went with another?

The fact that “A Better Rain”, “Why Can’t I Leave Her Alone”, and “He Must Have Really Hurt You Bad” were all close in points shows just how strong this album is overall. Really all three of those songs are interchangeable for me and don’t let my #11 ranking WCILHA or #10 ranking for HMHRHYB be mistaken for me not liking the songs because I love them but something had to go in those spots! I’m not at all surprised to see “Why Can’t I Leave Her Alone” perform well because that song was an immediate standout track for me when I first heard the album when it came out. As time has passed, though, I’ve found myself going back to revisit other songs more so it ended up sliding down a bit further on my list. The other two initial standouts for me were “That’s My Kind of Woman” and “He Must Have Really Hurt You Bad” of which I believe is one of George’s favorite songs on the album other than “I Ain’t Her Cowboy Anymore”. Which bring us to the top 5! I agree with .indulgecountry that they chose the correct four singles for the album and I wouldn’t have wanted them swapped for anything else. Had they gone with a fifth single I think it would’ve been something along the lines of “A Better Rain” or “I Ain’t Her Cowboy Anymore” because I know George was performing both of those songs live at the time. I think it’s going to come down to “Give It Away” or “It Just Comes Natural” for the win with the other three songs coming in at a close finish for each remaining spot.

Boy, she don’t need you, and she don’t need me. She can do just fine on her own two feet. But she wants a man who wants her to be herself. And she’ll never change, don’t know how to hide Her stubborn will or her fightin’ side. But you treat her right, and she’ll love you like no one else.

These white lines are a blur, Like the last few nights I spent with her. I don’t know where I went wrong, or if I did. Like the good ol’ boy I am, I told her that I understand. But Lord knows that I won’t long as I live. Seems lately every time it rains it pours. I ain’t her cowboy anymore.

"How 'Bout Them Cowgirls" is a great song, but doesn't really hold a candle to many of George's other singles to me. I am not surprised or disappointed to see it be the first single to leave. I am also glad that an album track managed to sneak ahead of it. There are a handful of others I would have liked to see do the same... Which brings us to "I Ain't Her Cowboy Anymore"! That song is freaking amazing! It is basically "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" with more detail Seriously, the details in this song are SO picturesque, and heartbreaking, and just all-around sensational. I love everything about it. Not surprised to see it be the highest album track. I almost wish this had been able to sneak up into the top 3, even though all 3 remaining singles are awesome too :)

"Wrapped" slays! This song is so catchy! However, it pales in comparison to the two bigger hits from the album, so I am okay with this leaving now :) After a brief hiccup towards the beginning, this song was clearly trending at #3. The two songs ahead of it pretty much had the top 2 on lockdown for the entire process.

And I said, “Now honey, don’t you even want Your half of everything?” She said, “Give it away. Just give it away.”
“Just give it away. There ain’t nothin’ in this house worth fightin’ over. Oh, and we’re both tired of fightin’ anyway. Just give it away.”

And there you have it! Despite basically everybody predicting the songs that would make up the top 2 correctly, NOBODY expressed any faith that the title track would be able to defeat the lead single! In fact, with IJCN missing out on the top 20 in the singles rankdown while "Give It Away" made it to #11, it would seem logical that GIA had this in the bag. However, IJCN never relinquished its stranglehold on the #1 position! There were times when the two were neck-and-neck, or even tied, but in the end IJCN managed to stay ahead, and it wasn't even super close at the finish. Thank you, everyone, for participating or following along!!!! This album is so incredible, and I think we did it justice I hope to see you all join for the Ocean Front Property and Somewhere Down In Texas albums!
