I’ll be sending in tonight! Beyond The Blue Neon. I can’t wait to do. It was my very first George album I love EVERY song it. It’s the only studio album of his I have. I do have both of his box sets as well.

2) What will be #10? “Too Much of Too Little” or “Overnight Success” with “Angel, Angelina” rounding out the bottom 3
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? The albums three #1 singles “Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye”, “Ace In the Hole”, and “What’s Going On In Your World” all belong in the top 5…as for the remaining two songs I think “Hollywood Squares” is likely to make it in along with maybe “Oh Me, Oh My Sweet Baby” but I’d prefer to see “Leavin’s Been Comin’ (For a Long, Long Time)” make it in

The list shows I voted 7 the graph says 10. I voted 7 The graph is a trajectory graph. It shows what position the song was in throughout the submission process. So even though you put it at 7 on your list, that was enough to keep it at #10 on the overall list of results. |

"Angel, Angelina" bows out first, which is probably not a surprise to literally anybody other than taylor is terrified. Lol she unfortunately becomes the first person to lose her #1, accomplishing the rare feat of losing her #1 right off the bat, while nobody else put this outside of their bottom 4. It was in last place for essentially the entire submission process, by a significant enough margin that carrie's list wasn't enough to save it! This song isn't bad, but has always been a major outlier on this album for me. It doesn't fit sonically alongside most of the songs on this album, which puts a target on its back, and the melody is kind of annoying to me. The whole calling her Angel because her name is Angelina pun feels way more forced than George's usual clever wordplay hooks. Plus this album is just so darn good that this one was an easy last place for me! |

omg poor taylor is terrified lol. "Overnight Success" is the definition of blah, especially for George Strait, who usually has very strong and interesting melodies. I can listen to it but it's not something I get much enjoyment out of hearing, and it was SUPER low in George's singles RD for me as well. Very glad to see it out so soon here. |

I do like "Overnight Success" quite a bit, but agree with LBTrocks that it just kinda plods along. I do really enjoy the way that the lyrics are crafted! There are numerous incredibly vivid and effective descriptions of his loss and heartbreak throughout the song! But melodically the song just kinda chugs along like a lawn mower stuck in its lowest gear... It is barely over 3 minutes long, but to me it always somehow manages to feel like it's over 4 minutes. After finishing at #99 in the singles rankdown, ahead of only "Shiftwork", it should come as no surprise that this song finished so low here. It is pretty clear that this song was a bit of a headscratcher to release as a single according to Pulse! |
