Look what I was able to unearth! Not the whole entire show!!!! OMG!!! I'm shocked by how good the CMAs used to be. (Also it was really sweet watching Martina win her very first Female Vocalist of the Year trophy ) (Sara Evans, Jo Dee Messina, and Kenny Chesney all up for the Horizon Award at the same time?!! Most years could never!)

Alright fearlessarrow, there it is... "4 Minus 3 Equals Zero" has always been one of my favorite songs on this album. The hook is brilliant, and George's vocal performance here is so warm and powerful. This song earned a whopping three #2 placements, but also got its fair share of low ranks, which led to its bouncing around like a pingpong ball for the entire submission process. It made it as high as #2 just a couple lists ago thanks to taylor is terrified, before immediately jumping back down to #5. That should tell you how close in point values the next few songs are!!!

Bowing out at #4, we will say goodbye to our most consistent #2 placer!!! It will also be our first #1 loss of the rankdown...

One of you is all I want and all I'll ever need. One of you is all it takes to make my life complete. This is what I have; you can have it all. I got one heart, one love, One dream I'm dreaming of. I wouldn't have known what to give it all to If I didn't have one of you.

That's right, the first #1 loss of the rankdown this time is yours truly!! I had to swallow a lot of choice words when I was inputting some of y'all's lists.... In what planet does this song belong in somebody's bottom 3?!!? I have long considered this to be one of the catchiest songs of his entire career!! And that hook is once again so understated and catchy. "I've got one truck, one car, one boat, one guitar. But all of these things wouldn't get me too far if I didn't have one of you." Love it so much Also this is one of George's very best vocal performances, as he navigates this difficult melody with a good-natured lilting drawl that just sounds so effortless yet charismatic. As I said before the reveal. This song was in the runner-up position more than any other song throughout the submission process. Unfortunately it was not able to hold on in the end thanks to the few people who insisted on tanking it.... It was looking poised to finish at #3 at least though, until the final submission pushed it back yet again...

Gonna guess that the final 3 plays out like this:
3: "I Look At You" 2: "Meanwhile" 1: "Write This Down"
I do wish "What Do You Say To That" had done better, I really enjoy that song

In what may be a bit of a surprise for people, the lead single of the album misses the top 2, finishing instead at #3! This song was a constant top 5 contender, and was at #2 for the second-most amount of time out of all the songs, but for much of the submissions it was stuck at #3 or #4 behind "One Of You". Cody Wants Out... put it back ahead at the last minute when he tanked the latter, but it wasn't quite enough to get this one back into the runner-up position. Now let's just talk about what the heck taylor is terrified and gonecountry are doing real quick!!! This song was a pretty massive hit back in the day, peaking at #2 for George (#1 in Canada ), but it has since kinda turned into one of his more forgotten hits. I was not sure how it would do here, but I am happy to see it wasn't tanked too badly, lol. This song has a very elegant vibe to it, imo, that has always helped it to sound pretty unique.

I look at you when the world is full of lies. I look at you, and the truth is in your eyes. I look at you when I lay me down at night And I want to see a dream come true. I look at you and I know I've got it all. You touch my hand, and the burdens start to fall. You ease my troubled mind. I love you more each time I look at you.
2. "I Look At You"
Track #9 Runtime: 3:29
I never saw the end in sight; Fools are kind of blind. Thought everything was going alright, But I was running out of time.

"Write This Down" is ICONIC and there was no other choice for my #1. It was also my #1 in the George Strait singles RD too, that's how much I love the song. "I Look at You" was a first listen but it grabbed my attention right away - I love all the singles from this album so I had to put it at #4 but thrilled to see it make it all the way to #2! Thanks for hosting bboat11!

Is this the new record for smallest std dev? I don't have stats on that, believe it or not ;) But I'd bet it isn't the smallest. We've had album rankdowns finish like this before. Like, Pam Tillis' debut album had everybody put "Maybe It Was Memphis" at #1, except for 2 people who put it at #2. Have no idea what the SD was, but it would've been pretty low!

omg perfect top 2!! "Write This Down' is on another whole level from the rest of the album tho, so it really was the only obvious choice for #1.

I never posted my thoughts on the finale! "I Look At You" has always been one of my favorites from this album. It has such a sweet sentiment to it, and George's delivery is perfect. It isn't exactly a conventional "cheesy" love song, which helps it to stand out imo. It is a love song with a personality. I am shocked yet thrilled to see it finish at #2, as I am just so accustomed to seeing the singles dominate these things!! I thought "Meanwhile" would be a shoe-in, and I thought "One Of You" would be the highest album track. I am okay with this outcome though! "Write This Down" understandably dominated the competition here, as it absolutely deserved to do. I may be the lowest ranker (at #3, oh so low!), but I still consider this song to be perfect in every way!!! It's just very much been overplayed through the years... It has become so huge that it eclipsed the entire rest of this album, and I would argue that it even eclipsed his next album too, lol. But it is an awesome winner, (probably the only "correct" one), and I am thrilled by just how severely it dominated

Just gonna answer the mentions to my name with this. "Write This Down" is ICONIC and apparently the only song (or one of the only ones) I agreed with the rest of y'all on! Glad that one won as was to be expected! Thanks for hosting bboat11 and I'm excited to see what's next! If I'm allowed lol

Maybe since we all agree about how awesome "Write This Down" is we can give George his first win in a Best of the Best rankdown in a couple months

Wait was Reba not there? I just kinda scrolled through and watched bits and pieces, but I don't recall seeing her? She was and actually presented the Entertainer of the Year award to none other than Shania Twain! My main purpose of posting that, though, was to showcase George singing "What Do You Say To That" which watching it now after all of these years makes me think they should've released a different song as the third single. This was probably one of the more unpredictable album rankdowns we've done for George thus far because of the strength of three of the album tracks making it in. I had thought that based on how much y'all have been raving about "One of You" that would be the track to make it into the top two, but alas it bowed out at #4. While I've always thought that George sounds great on this laidback number, it just has never been a go-to song for me from this album and if I'm being honest it was probably one that I skipped over some back when the album was first released. I had set my expectations for "Meanwhile" kind of low so as not to be disappointed, so I'm thrilled just to see it make the top 3. I've long had a soft spot for it and the structure of the song is so different from anything George had recorded before or since. My top ranking for this is probably more nostalgia than anything, but I love this song just as much today as I did then. "I Look at You" was the biggest surprise as I wouldn't have expected to see it make the top two, but considering that this was an early favorite of mine back in the day makes me think this should've been the song they released as the third single. This was also another string of Steve Bogard/Jeff Stevens co-writes that George recorded during the late 90s and had just scored hits with "Carried Away" and "Carrying Your Love With Me" (Jeff Stevens also co-wrote "True"), so given that I also thought this might be an early contender for a single back then. There wasn't much doubt that "Write This Down" would come out on top here, but I have to agree with bboat11 that this song has become quite overplayed even for me. It was a huge hit for him that summer and I don't think he's done a show since without performing the song. I am excited to see how well this does in the next Best of the Best rankdown series!
