Not that this is a prize worth winning, but it looks like I got an initial pressing from Target this afternoon. Dixie EVERYWHERE. Maybe it will be a collector's item? Anyway, other than hearing Gaslighter once, I have heard NOTHING else, so I am really excited!

Anyway, other than hearing Gaslighter once, I have heard NOTHING else, so I am really excited! Even on the cover? Thatās interesting. I guess they already had the album pressed and just sent it out anyway. If we were in an age where physical media was still dominant, Iād say it could be worth something, but given itās not and given the Chicks arenāt exactly major in a collectables sort of way, maybe not.

What a brilliant album "Gaslighter" is. The musicianship, the songwriting, their stand in life. I love these women and the music they make. They're rocking our world with truth and honesty when we need it the most!

The four-track stretch between "My Best Friend's Weddings" and "Young Man" is phenomenal. "Young Man" is particularly stunning. It's like a sad but gorgeous sequel to "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)."
Really solid album overall. Glad they're back.

Cover, booklet, CD itself. But, when I uploaded it to iTunes, I got The Chicks.

They posted on their IG story as a heads-up that the initial pressings were completed by the time they changed their name.

This was a lot mellower than I was expecting. I've only listened once so far and liked it. Everybody Loves You was my instant favorite.

Iām very happy they are back. The album is extremely solid and shows a lot of growth from them as songwriters. I hope this album does welll for them, they are definitely underrated nowadays.

Fantastic album, they've still got it in spades. Their harmonies are still some of the best out there.

I've only listened to the first three tracks so far, but I am HOOKED.
Also, I was fortunate enough to get into The Chicks during the Home era as Landslide just came out and Long Time Gone had just peaked, so I got to experience one era first-hand before the Bush controversy. That said, Taking the Long Way came out on my 16th birthday and the success of "Not Ready To Make Nice" and subsequent awards sweep just made that whole era more satisfying than revenge.

Not a bad album at all! There's some really, really great moments here. There's not a lot I will personally go back to, but I admire the raw songwriting each track has. It feels really angsty and well thought out.
Highlights for me: Gaslighter March March Sleep at Night Texas Man Tights on My Boat

Jack Antonoff - Producer of the Decade: 2010-2020; 2020- This man really understands women and how to let them shine. It's a shame he couldn't help that pig of an ex of his, but everything else he touches turns to diamonds. Another Album of the Year-worthy album, though I REALLY wish they would have left Tights On My Boat on the cutting room floor. It's juvenile and the wrong kind of petty. Plus, that ending is legit terrible. Anyway, welcome back, Chicks!
In order:
1. March March (I was NOT ready for this. OMG. The apex of their career.) 2. Everybody Loves You (SOTY material) 3. Juliana Calm Down (this song kinda confuses me sonically, but I like it a lot) 4. Young Man (what a GORGEOUS song. also, I feel like it's the exact song Taylor Swift would write if she had a son. too bad The Chicks beat her to it!) 5. Texas Man 6. Sleep At Night 7. Hope It's Something Good 8. For Her (the ending of this gives me late Kanye) 9. Set Me Free 10. Gaslighter 11 Best Friend's Weddings
* 12. Tights On My Boat (unnecessary, but not enough to derail the album, so ultimately, it's inconsequential, but that ending is kinda...gross)

Projected to debut with 75-85k SPS (65-75k sales). I figured 100k was a stretch but would've been nice to see them open with another 6-figure week (a ticket bundle had the tour gone on would've definitely helped).
Fly debuted at #1 with 341k.
Home debuted at #1 with 780k.
Taking the Long Way debuted at #1 with 526k.

It's not a bad opening at all, pretty solid I think. The only comparission that comes to my mind is Shania Twain.
Up! (2002) - 857k Now (2017) - 137k
Taking The Long Way (2006)- 526k Gasslighter (2020) - 75k
Shania's oppenings dipped 84% in 15 years, and The Chicks would be dipping 86% in 14 years if they open with the low estimate. So they're on par with each other percentage wise.

That still seems like a #1 debut though. Juice Wrldās second week will most likely prevent that from happening (plus HITS usually states when an album is on par for a #1 debut and they didnāt with these predictions).

I changed the tracklist around to split up some of the ballads and it makes the album really shine. I went with:
Gaslighter Sleep at Night Hope It's Something Good My Best Friend's Weddings Texas Man Everybody Loves You Julianna Calm Down Tights on My Boat Young Man For Her March March Set Me Free

Where are most (or any) country acts from the 90ās debuting on the charts in 2020? Natalie single-handedly gave this band eternal relevancy. I wish it was #1 though. If under normal promotion circumstances, Iām sure it would be.

Sara Evans is really the only other country artist from the 90s who released this year and she did not chart (it was also a covers album).

This is an incredibly solid album that gets better with each listen. Young Man is very well written. So far my favorites are Young Man, Sleep At Night, March March and Everybody Loves You.

This album is superb. It literally gets better after every listen. If you're reading this and have only listened to the album once, give it another spin. It took maybe two plays thru for me to fall in love with ALL of it. The first listen I only liked a few songs. Now I am playing it nonstop. It's that good. So glad they're back but even more delighted they're back and legit have not lost a step.
