Two big names on a song doesn't guarantee it becomes a monster smash. I don't think Drake and Ed necessarily means super massive hit by default.

I said it'd be interesting to see how a song between two of the biggest artists on the streaming end of things would perform commercially. Y'all are acting like if two of the biggest female artists came together to make a song, you wouldn't wonder about the same possibility.

It would be interesting to see but it also wouldn't really be a surprise if it ended up underperforming. In the streaming era of course, it might get a lot of curiosity streams for the first few weeks but that's only if there's even just a little bit of hype to it (like there was with the Drake/MJ song, even though it wasn't a single). I think End Game is a decent example because despite also featuring Future, it did have Taylor and Ed, two of the biggest artists of the decade, and it didn't perform overly well even when it was released as a single.

I think a Drake and Post Malone collaboration would smash. No, according to the folks on here, it wouldn't. There's no reason to think two huge streaming forces could come up with a collab that would do well. Some of you are funny, lol.

Taylor is not the commercial force she used to be. Their single was urban-leaning and that particular song was like the third or fourth single off Taylor's album. How can you use a song between two different artists to compare between the potential between two different artists? My curiousity about the potential Drake/Ed collab exists because they both offer an interesting contrast in the fields they both dominate. No one pulls in more streams in the US like Drake and no one pulls in more streams worldwide than Ed. The two radio formats that Drake dominates - Rhythmic and Urban, are formats Ed doesn't dominate and the radio formats Ed dominates - Pop, HAC, etc, are formats that for the most part, ignore Drake records. It'd be interesting to see how a song between them performs between all those metrics. That's where my curiousity lies, not even in the song itself. I don't particularly care for Ed's music.

I think a Drake and Post Malone collaboration would smash. Seeing that a Post Malone and Justin freaking Bieber didn't smash while someone by the name of Cardi B smash, I don't know what will smash anymore.

^ that was when Post Malone had 1 semi-popular song though. If Bieber was on B&B the song would've smashed.

All I’m simply saying is that it’s no guarantee. I’m literally saying a collab between those two could literally do anything or nothing. Lol. It’s not that difficult to understand.

The Greatest Man Ever In The Rap Game"? In what context exactly? A true, genuine, repectable Hip-Hop/Rap fan would never speak such words, in which case, God Bless your opinions. Commercially? As of 2018, he's second to Eminem in the U.S overall, and has had more dominance over the singles chart than any other "Rapper" in history. Artistically? Lyrically? Critically? LMFAO. Eminem is only besting Drake lyrically this year and by extension, this decade. But that goes for damn near every rapper. He's a lyrical mastermind. But Eminem doesn't make better songs or better music than Drake. Eminem's albums this decade have been bashed to hell and back critically and artistically, this decade has been his worst, audiences and critics all agree on that. Of course, he's still the most successful rapper of all time, but Drake draws closer and closer to his achievements commercially with each passing year. Drake is not a critical darling either. At Least Eminem will retire with at least 3 classic albums. Drake will retire with classic memes

Seriously, what did bb ever do to hitsdd? Because it seems like they keep sending shots every week it's well-known, respected and has its own award show. I see why HDD is mad.

Like this Just like others have mentioned with other artists. Neither of my Two favorites were at their peak at the time on radio. "When You Believe' got hype but not even that many curiosity spins considering how big these two ladies were. Before "WYB" Mimi's last singles struggled some to get play "Thank God I Found You, Can't Take That Away and even "Heartbreaker" wasn't HUGE on pop radio. Whitney's prior singles "Step By Step and I Believe In You And Me" wren't exactly burning up the airplay charts either. I remember reading in Billboard at the time that radio PR Directors were saying this was going to be huge and the other superstar duet that was just released "Im Your Angel" was going to suffer. Well we see how that played out on the charts.

I remember britney x madonna with me against the music flops. US, yeah, although both acts were coming from relatively underwhelming eras so it still represented a return to top 40 for both. Elsewhere it did it's job (#2 UK, #1 Australia, #2 Canada, etc...)

Ed said he isn't planning on a mainstream-leaning project in the next year, while Drake said he's going back in the studio after the tour.
I think if there's a DrakexEd collaboration, it'll be released through Drake.

You say that now, in hindsight, but at the time she was coming off a huge era. 2. Are people really talking about Taylor like she's in hospice care? She had one disappointing album. Her tour is still huge.

I remember britney x madonna with me against the music flops. Another good example. Honestly, more often than not collaborations between huge artists tend to disappoint. We've named a bunch of examples in this thread. Even the Beyonce/Gaga collaborations weren't huge #1s.

You'd think that a song like Scream by Janet and Michael Jackson would go to #1 for example
Or how didn't a collaboration between Pitbull and Flo Rida tear up the charts I'm asking y'all

You'd think that a song like Scream by Janet and Michael Jackson would go to #1 for example Just off star power alone, I agree. But it had a few things going against it at the time - a big one being the fallout from Michael's abuse allegations. It put a cloud over that entire HIStory era, at least for some. I personally loved/love Scream, but it wasn't the most radio friendly song for casual fans to fall in love with. It's very in-your-face and noisy, and lyrically very personal and pointed. Now, had they collaborated on You Are Not Alone.... -------- I personally believe it all comes down to the song. Star power and built-in fanbases help a collaboration commercially, but only initially. After the first week or two, the song has to fend for itself.

Take Care will definitely be a classic. Possibly NWTS too. I don’t think SFG sounds like a classic tbh. It’s good and as my favorite album at one point but it’s not as good as TC or NWTS.

SFG is a mixtape and as long as it's not on the usual streaming platforms, it'll get overshadowed. TC will be viewed as his magnum opus. NWTS got a very positive reception but it was constantly pointed out that it was in the same vein as TC, which will work more in favor of the latter.
