As has been the case since 2012, Mariah Carey’s 1994 track ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ makes its December return to the ARIA Top 50, hitting #18 this week. The festive season classic has managed to hit #1 on the chart in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Worldwide holiday anthem! It's 8x platinum there. What will it take to get to 10x platinum?

^It will probably take a couple of more years for it to get there. As you said, it's already 8x platinum there with 41 weeks charted in the Singles chart. It should be close to managing to accomplish 10x platinum once it gets to 50 weeks or it might actually managed it by then.

New peak for Gayle’s ‘abcdefu’!
Elton John and Dua Lipa take out their fourth week at #1 with ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’. It’s the track’s second run of two straight weeks at #1, following a two-week run in November.
Four weeks into its residency in the chart, Gayle’s ‘abcdefu’ moves up two spots to claim a new peak at #2. It matches the peak already hit by the single in the UK and Ireland.
After two weeks at #11, Acraze’s remix of Cherish’s ‘Do It To It’ moves up two spots to hit the Top Ten for the first time at #9. The track has peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in the US.
While Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ remains steady at #8 for a second week, Wham’s festive season classic ‘Last Christmas’ has raced up this week’s chart, moving from #18 to #12. The 1984 track hit #2 at the end of 2020, its highest ever peak.
Rounding out the Christmas tracks this week: Michael Bublé’s ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ (#13), Ariana Grande’s ‘Santa Tell Me’ (#21), Ed Sheeran & Elton John’s ‘Merry Christmas’ (#29), Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree’ (#34) and Bobby Helms’ ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ (#39).
This week’s Singles Chart also features new peaks for SZA’s ‘I Hate U’ (#16), Lost Frequencies & Calum Scott’s ‘Where Are You Now’ (#17), Imagine Dragons, JID & League of Legends’ ‘Enemy’ (#18) and Emmy Meli’s ‘I Am Woman’ (#28).
As well as debuting at #7 on the Albums Chart with Fighting Demons, Juice WRLD has debuted at #44 on the Singles Chart with ‘Wandered To LA’. It’s the second single to chart from the late rapper’s second posthumous album after ‘Already Dead’ (#29 Nov. ’21) and features Justin Bieber.

Plus, plenty of Christmas climbers!
It’s week five at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for Elton John and Dua Lipa’s ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’. It’s now one week away from equaling the run at #1 by John’s previous chart-topper ‘Something About the Way You Look Tonight’ / ‘Candle in the Wind 1997’ (#1 Oct. ’97).
After topping the Singles Chart in 2018, 2019 and 2020, Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ falls one short in its bid to make it four chart-topping years in a row.
This week’s chart is bursting with festive tunes, including Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ (#9), Michael Bublé’s ‘It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ (#10), Ariana Grande’s ‘Santa Tell Me’ (#12), Ed Sheeran & Elton John’s ‘Merry Christmas’ (#16), Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree’ (#17), Bobby Helms’ ‘Jingle Bell Rock‘ (#24), Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It's Christmas?’ (#27), Sia’s ‘Snowman’ (#29), Michael Bublé’s ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ (#30), The Ronettes’ ‘Sleigh Ride’ (#32), Justin Bieber’s ‘Mistletoe’ (#36), Andy Williams’ ‘It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ (#37), Paul Kelly’s ‘How To Make Gravy’ (#41), Jam Mountain Music’s ‘Light A Candle’ (#43), Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Underneath The Tree’ (#44), John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band’s ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ (#46) and LadBaby’s ‘Sausage Rolls For Everyone’ (#48).
The week’s only debut in the Top 50 comes from British duo LadBaby and their track ‘Sausage Rolls For Everyone’. It’s a comedy version of Ed Sheeran & Elton John’s ‘Merry Christmas’ and was recorded in collaboration with their pair. Proceeds from the track go towards UK foodbank charity The Trussell Trust. LadBaby are aiming to become the first act in UK charts history to secure four consecutive Christmas #1 singles.

Lots of post-Christmas re-entries and debuts! After dropping back to #4 last week due to the Christmas surge, Elton John and Dua Lipa return to take out sixth week at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’. This week marks the track’s 20th consecutive week in the Top Five, having been there since w/c 30/8/2021.
After dropping to #21 last week, Acraze’s ‘Do It To It’ jumps back up to a new peak at #8, one spot above its previous high. The drop out of all the Christmas songs from the Top 50 this week has also led to new peaks for Lost Frequencies & Calum Scott’s ‘Where Are You Now’ (#10) and Imagine Dragons, JID & League of Legends’ ‘Enemy’ (#15).
This week’s Singles Chart includes two debuts by tracks from the new Disney animated film Encanto. This highest debut is at #20 with ‘We Don't Talk About Bruno’, which includes contributions from much of the cast. Jessica Darrow’s performances of ‘Surface Pressure’ has debuted at #44.
In amongst the flux caused by the Christmas song drops, The Killers’ 2004 single ‘Mr Brightside’ has returned the Top 50 and claimed a new ARIA Charts peak at #23. The track’s previous peak of #29 was reached in January 2005, during its original chart run.
Dutch DJ Tiësto and American singer Ava Max make their debut at #37 with their collaboration ‘The Motto’. It’s Tiësto’s first chart entry since hitting the Top Ten last year with ‘The Business’ (#4 Feb. ’21). The debut gives Ava Max her first chart entry since ‘My Head & My Heart’ (#21 Mar. ’21).
Gold Coast producer Luude makes his ARIA Top 50 debut at #48 with his drum & bass reinterpretation of Men At Work’s 1981 single ‘Down Under’. The new version features reworked vocals by Colin Hay, the lead singer of Men At Work, who were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1994. ‘Down Under’ topped charts in Australia, UK, US, Ireland, Canada, and many other countries.
