Moves for Lizzo, Future and more.
‘As It Was’ by Harry Styles holds #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for a fourth week. It comes a week out from the release of the British star’s third album, Harry’s House. This week Canadian band Arcade Fire performed a version of the track in their live session for BBC 6 Music.
A week on from debuting at #12, Lizzo jumps up nine spots to hit #3 with ‘About Damn Time’. The first single from the American singer-songwriter/rapper’s fourth album, Special, becomes her highest chart peak, taking over from ‘Good As Hell’ (#6 Nov. ’19).
Future’s ‘Wait For U’ moves up three spots to #12 in its second week on the chart. The track, which features Canadian star Drake and Nigerian singer Tems, is the current US #1 – giving Future his second chart-topper.
On top of scoring the #2 album this week with Come Home The Kids Miss You, American rapper Jack Harlow grabs two debuts in the Singles Chart Top 50, with his tribute to Dua Lipa sitting highest at #13. Harlow’s collaboration with Drake, ‘Churchill Downs’, debuts at #17. Former #1 ‘First Class’ is at #2, while previous single ‘Nail Tech’ re-enters at #38.
In its second week in the chart, Leah Kate’s ’10 Thing I Hate About You’ moves up 16 spots to hit a new peak at #22.
Taylor Swift debuts at #23 with her latest re-recording, ‘This Love (Taylor's Version)’. It’s a new version of the track that first appeared on 1989 (#1 Nov. ’14) and becomes the 17th re-recorded track by the American singer-songwriter to appear in the ARIA Top 50.
American rapper Kendrick Lamar takes out his first new entry in the ARIA Singles Chart in four years, debuting at #31 with ‘The Heart Part 5’. The fifth installment in Lamar’s ‘The Heart’ song series was released last week as a teaser for his fifth album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, which dropped on 13 May. The song doesn’t appear on the album. Lamar last charted with ‘Pray For Me’ (#9 Mar. ’18), a collaboration with The Weeknd.
Debuting at #35, Lady Gaga scores her first new entry in the Top 50 since 2020 with ‘Hold My Hand’. The new release is the lead single from the soundtrack to Top Gun: Maverick. The American star last hit the chart with ‘Sour Candy’ (#8 Jun. ’20), a collaboration with Blackpink.
‘Iris’, the 1998 hit from American band the Goo Goo Dolls, returns to the Singles Chart at #45. The single’s resurgence comes following a trend on TikTok featuring a part of the song sung by creator Joshua Johnson.

Styles also claims new Singles Chart record.
Topping the Albums Chart with Harry’s House, Harry Styles also picks up a sixth week at #1 on the Singles Chart with ‘As It Was’. On top of this, the other twelve tracks from the English artist’s third album have all entered this week’s chart: ‘Late Night Talking’ (#2), ‘Matilda’ (#3), ‘Music For A Sushi Restaurant’ (#4), ‘Little Freak’ (#6), ‘Daylight’ (#8), ‘Grapejuice’ (#9), ‘Satellite’ (#10), ‘Cinema’ (#11), ‘Daydreaming’ (#12), ‘Love Of My Life’ (#13), ‘Keep Driving’ (#14) and ‘Boyfriends’ (#15). Styles becomes the first artist to have 13 songs inside the Top 15 in one week. Previously, Taylor Swift had 13 songs between #1 and #25 in August 2020. The previous highest number of tracks by one artist in the Top 15 was Drake who had eight in September 2021.

lol at Harry destroying the ARIA chart. For those that are wondering, the only non-Harry Top 15 songs are First Class (#5) and About Damn Time (#7).

I'm not sure if they won't be doing a singles chart only chart article or if this week is an exception.
24 June 2022
Aussie #1 double-header as Joji tops the Singles Charts
The ARIA Charts were dominated by Australian success stories today as Jimmy Barnes, the artist with the most #1 albums in ARIA Chart history, beat out Drake to debut at #1 with Soul Deep 30; while Japanese-Australian artist Joji reached a new career peak at #1 on the Singles Chart with Glimpse of Us.
“I love singing all these classic songs and I’m grateful that they’re now being discovered by a big new audience,” said Jimmy Barnes. “Thanks to everyone who’s supported this project; it’s always held a special place for me ever since we cut the original version for fun over our Christmas holidays more than 30 years ago. I’d like to pay particular tribute to Warren Costello from my record company who passed away recently. Waz was a huge part of my entire solo career alongside our great friend Michael Gudinski and Soul Deep 30 was our final collaboration. He always loved a #1 record, as did MG, so I really hope they both get to hear this news. I’d also like to thank Matt, Dean and the rest of the Bloodlines team for all the heartfelt work they’ve put into this album and tour.”
ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “Any week we have two Australians at #1 across the Singles and Albums Charts is a good week, but today’s result is particularly incredible. In such a hotly-contested field of releases and incredible global artists, I’m thrilled to see an Aussie legend like Barnesy and an emerging artist as exciting as Joji receive the top honours. It’s just another example of the breadth, depth and enormous potential of Australian music. From everyone at ARIA, a huge congratulations to both artists.”
In addition to topping the Albums Chart, Soul Deep 30 also tops the Vinyl Albums Chart. It celebrates the 30th anniversary of Jimmy Barnes’ fifth studio album, Soul Deep, which originally debuted at #1 in 1991 and earned him Best Male Artist and Highest Selling Album at the 1992 ARIA Awards. It counts for 10 of Jimmy’s 58 Platinum accreditations in Australia, excluding his work with Cold Chisel, who also reappear in the Australian Albums Chart at #5 with The Best Of Cold Chisel: All For You. In total Jimmy has 22 Top 10 ARIA debuts with 13 of them debuting at #1.
Regular ARIA #1 artist, Drake, debuts in the #2 spot with his surprise release HONESTLY, NEVERMIND, released just nine months after Certified Lover Boy, which debuted at #1 on the Albums Chart. The Living End front man Chris Cheney also debuted at #2 in the Vinyl Albums Chart and #8 in the Albums Chart with The Storm Before The Calm.

Given that the ARIA charts' article only mentioned that RUTH stayed at #1, I think it is better to post this, while mentioning that Master of Puppets and Hot s**t debuted at #24 and #39, respectively. New peaks for Vegas at #4, I Ain't Worried at #11, Sunroof at #22, Hold My Hand at #29 and Where Did You Go? at #41.

Probably the best performance at a singles chart by the tracks of Midnights, outside of the US and Canada:
28 October 2022
Midnights blacks out the charts, Arctic Monkeys debut and Kylie returns
Taylor Swift is back to doing what she does best: smashing records and dominating the charts with her first new album in two years, Midnights.
Debuting at #1 on the Albums Chart, Swift’s passes Harry Styles for the biggest single week of any album so far in 2022. It is also the biggest single week for any album since the release of her 2017 album Reputation.
Swift also sets a record on the Singles Chart, surpassing Harry Styles for the most singles in the top 10, blocking out the chart with Anti-Hero at #1 and another eight singles. Sam Smith and Kim Petras ruin her shot at a perfect score with last week’s #1, Unholy, at #7. Not content with stopping at the top 10, Swift also holds #11 through to #14.
Swift has been nominated for Best International Artist at the ARIA Awards eight times, winning in 2019 and 2021, and nominated again this year.
Arctic Monkeys are back on the Albums Chart at #2 with the debut of The Car. All of the band’s albums since 2006 have placed in the top 5, with three albums reaching #1. ARIA Hall Of Fame inductee and 16-time ARIA Award-winner Kylie Minogue is also back in the charts at #3 with the 25th anniversary reissue of 1987’s Impossible Princess.

It has been a while since anybody has posted anything here, but Taylor set a new record this week on the ARIA's album chart:
7 July 2023
Olivia Rodrigo rushes back to the Singles Chart
The tour effect continues as Taylor Swift’s Midnights returns to #1 for a 13th non-consecutive week on the ARIA Albums chart after ticket sales for her February visit sent the nation into a frenzy last week.
Taylor dominates the chart this week, with six albums in the top 10 and the entire top five, setting a new chart record. Until now, the record for dominance was held by Michael Jackson, who had the top three albums the week after he passed away in 2009.
In addition to Midnights at #1, Taylor scores Lover at #2, 1989 at #3, Reputation at #4, Folklore at #5, and Red (Taylor’s Version) at #9.
In local artist news, Up, Down & Sideways by Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley is new at #26. It is the second album together for the Australian husband and wife country stars; their first, Adam & Brooke, peaked at #16 in 2018 and was nominated for an ARIA Award. As a member of The McClymonts, Brooke has scored five ARIA Top 10 albums, most recently in 2020 when Mayhem To Madness topped out at #3
Lekkerboy, the fifth studio album from Sticky Fingers, also debuts at #37. The band hit #1 in 2016 with Westway (The Glitter & The Slums).
Elsewhere, Pink Tape by American rapper Lil Uzi Vert arrives at #7, their third studio album; Eternal Atake hit #1 in 2020. Dead Club City by Nothing But Thieves debuts at #10; in 2020, their album Moral Panic peaked at #8.
On the singles chart, Olivia Rodrigo returns with Vampire, storming into the charts at #1. It’s her third chart-topper following Drivers Licence and Good 4 U, both of which reached the summit in 2021. It’s also the first track from her highly anticipated sophomore album Guts, which drops in September. Her first album, Sour, went to #1 in 2021; this week, it bullets from #28 to #15 after spending eight weeks at #1 in 2021.
The rest of the singles chart is all about Taylor, as Cruel Summer steps up to #3 and many other tracks climb, with Anti-Hero and Karma also breaking the top 10.
In non-Taylor news, the second single from the soundtrack to the upcoming Barbie movie – Barbie World by Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice and Aqua – rises from #34 to #24. It samples Barbie Girl by Danish-Norwegian band Aqua, which hit #1 for three weeks here in 1997.

12 January 2024
The 2023 ARIA End Of Year Charts have arrived and – to no one’s surprise – one woman’s quest for world domination has left its mark, with Taylor Swift landing five of the top 10 albums and 10 of the top 50.
Coming in at #1 is 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which spent nine weeks on top in 2023 for the longest consecutive run of any album. Midnights, which reigned supreme for seven weeks (in addition to the seven weeks it was at #1 in 2022), scores #2. Midnights was also the #1 album of 2022, marking the second year in a row Taylor has had the biggest album of the year.
Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), which spent two weeks at #1 this year, lands at #7; Lover comes in at #8 and the original version of 1989 hits #9. Taylor also lands at #11 with Reputation, #12 with Folklore, #29 with Red (Taylor’s Version), #36 with Evermore and #46 with Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
The Weeknd also has reason to celebrate, scoring #3 with The Highlights – also the #3 album of 2022 – and landing at #10 with Starboy.
American Morgan Wallen led this year’s country charge, with One Thing At A Time standing tall as the #4 album of 2023. It topped the ARIA Albums Chart for two weeks. Fellow country star Luke Combs has three in the top 25 for the year: This One’s For You at #14, Gettin’ Old at #17 and What You See Ain’t Always What You Get at #24.
Rounding out the top five is American R&B star SZA, with SOS at #5, while last year’s #2 album, Harry Styles’ Harry’s House, ranks #6 for this year.
On the Singles Chart, Miley Cyrus’ megahit Flowers takes the #1 spot thanks to its 12 weeks on top, which ties with only three other songs to spent three months at #1: Pharrell Williams’ Happy in 2014, Eminem’s Lose Yourself in 2002-03 and Dinah Shore’s Buttons and Bows in 1949. Eight songs have spent more than 12 weeks at #1; the champion is Tones and I’s Dance Monkey, which clocked 24 weeks on top in 2019-20.
Morgan Wallen’s country crossover smash Last Night is the #2 single of the year; it spent eight weeks at #1. Fellow American country singer Zach Bryan is at #7 for the year with Something In The Orange.
SZA’s Kill Bill spent one week on top and is the #3 single of 2023, while Taylor Swift lands two in the top 10, with Anti-Hero at #4 and Cruel Summer at #8.
Two new artists make the top 10 this year: PinkPantheress at #5 with Boy’s A Liar and Raye featuring 070 Shake at #10 with Escapism.
Last year’s biggest selling single, Harry Styles’ As It Was, is at #9 this year.
ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “Congratulations to all the artists who dominated 2023, but particularly to Taylor, who has completely reset the narrative for what a solo artist can accomplish. She is a truly once-in-a-lifetime artist, storyteller, performer and businessperson. Similarly, Miley Cyrus’ incredible achievement on the Singles Chart over the past year – solidified at #1 on the 2023 Singles Chart – is cause for celebration… as is women at the top of both the Singles and Albums Charts for 2023.
“Having said that, the 2023 charts tell an all-too-familiar story that we have been very vocal about for the past 24 months: there are simply not enough Australian artists – let alone new Australian artists – breaking through with their home audience. We are just as frustrated as the rest of the music industry, and Aussie music lovers, to find only four Australian albums in the top 100 this year and three singles, none of which were released last year.
“It’s frustrating, but the data provided by these charts is an unbiased view of how Australian audiences consume music, and we need to use this data to understand we have a very urgent, very complex problem to solve. We need to address the damaging lack of data about contemporary music. We need more resources to grab the opportunity to become a net export nation. We need a strong financial commitment from Music Australia to ensure our artists have a chance of securing the global fame that they deserve. There is a huge opportunity in increasing streams from the ever-growing global market,” she said.
“The good news is that we are at a turning point, with renewed support for Ausmusic from the Federal Government and various state governments, the establishment of Music Australia, Sound NSW, and the Centre for Creative Workplaces. We look forward to working with all of these bodies and the broader industry to help connect more Australian Artists with fans in 2024, in the hope that we can change the narrative this time next year.”

This article perfect sums up how I feel about the absolute mistreatment of our home-grown product. Australian Music’s Annus Horribilis: No 2023 Local Releases Make End Of Year ARIA Charts12 January 2024 | 1:21 pm | Jeff Jenkins “We are just as frustrated as the rest of the music industry.” In 2023, one artist conquered an entire nation, and it wasn’t an Australian artist. Not one local artist with a song or album released last year made the end-of-year ARIA charts. Taylor Swift had 36 Top 40 singles in Australia in 2023. The combined total for every Australian artist was 13. Only three homegrown hits made the Top 10 for the entire year, and none went to number one – the first time an Aussie act has failed to top the ARIA singles chart since 2017. Thirteen Taylor Swift songs made the Top 10, with Is It Over Now? spending two weeks at number one. Six of the 13 Australian Top 40 entries came from just two artists (The Kid LAROI and Troye Sivan had three Top 40 singles each). The Aussie total was even worse than 2022, when 20 homegrown hits reached the Top 40, and 2021 (23) and 2020 (26). Today, ARIA released its Top 100 singles and albums for 2023. Both charts failed to feature a single Australian entry that was actually released in 2023. The year’s biggest album was 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which spent nine weeks at number one. Taylor Swift dominated, with five of the year’s ten biggest albums and 10 of the Top 50. 2023’s biggest single was Miley Cyrus’ Flowers, which spent 12 weeks at number one. The top local single was The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s Stay, which came in at #36 after being the third biggest song of 2022. The Top 100 features just two other Aussie entries: Vance Joy’s 2013 single Riptide at #52 and Dean Lewis’ 2022 hit How Do I Say Goodbye at #68. 2022’s Top 100 featured 11 homegrown hits. 2023’s Top 100 features just four Aussie albums (compared to 11 in 2022), led by INXS’s The Very Best – originally released in 2011 – at #58, followed by Tame Impala’s Currents (#76), Spacey Jane’s Here Comes Everybody (87) and The Kid LAROI’s F*ck Love (Over You) (#94). What was the defining Aussie song of 2023? Arguably, it was Kylie Minogue’s Padam Padam, which has been nominated for a Grammy. But it failed to crack the Top 10, peaking at #19. And it was not one of 2023’s Top 50 biggest radio hits as revealed by The Music before Christmas (Peking Duk & Darren Hayes’ I Want You was the leading local entrant at #19). Boy George ponders Padam Padam’s lack of airplay in his new autobiography, Karma, and takes a swipe at radio programmers. “How come BBC Radio did not play Padam Padam by Kylie if it’s the public that decides? “I realise that not every artist can make it to the playlist but don’t pretend there is some intellectual process involved. You are a bunch of c***s.” Nine Aussie albums reached the summit in 2023 (compared to 13 in 2022 and 14 in 2021). An alarming trend is the locals’ lack of staying power. When Powderfinger released their breakthrough album, 1996’s Double Allergic, the record company’s mantra was “keep it Top 10 for 10 weeks”, which they achieved. But these days, most albums debut and then disappear. No Aussie albums spent longer than one week at number one in 2023, and only two of the local chart-topping albums – Kylie’s Tension and Troye Sivan’s Something To Give Each Other – spent two weeks in the Top 10. It’s a downward spiral for Aussie acts. Overall, 46 Australian albums hit the Top 10 in 2023 (down from 56 in 2022, 64 in 2021, and 72 in 2020), and 90 made the Top 40 (down from 97 in 2022, 127 in 2021, and 131 in 2020). The 2023 nadir for Aussie acts came during a week in July when the combined total of Top 40 singles and albums was Taylor Swift's 26 and Australia's 2. In November, the score was Swift 25, Australia 6. The Christmas chart was Swift 13, Australia 3, while this week’s scoreboard is Swift 12, Australia 3. ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd acknowledged the disappointing performance of Aussie acts. “The 2023 charts tell an all-too-familiar story that we have been very vocal about for the past 24 months: there are simply not enough Australian artists – let alone new Australian artists – breaking through with their home audience,” Herd said in a statement. “We are just as frustrated as the rest of the music industry, and Aussie music lovers, to find only four Australian albums in the top 100 this year and three singles, none of which were released last year. There is a huge opportunity in increasing streams from the ever-growing global market.” Herd believes things will improve. “The good news is that we are at a turning point, with renewed support for Ausmusic from the Federal Government and various state governments, the establishment of Music Australia, Sound NSW, and the Centre for Creative Workplaces. We look forward to working with all of these bodies and the broader industry to help connect more Australian artists with fans in 2024, in the hope that we can change the narrative this time next year.” The first two charts of 2024 have failed to feature a single Australian album in the Top 40. The upside? Six Aussie artists scored their first chart-topping albums in 2023. 23 February 2024
It’s touchdown for Taylor Swift and the ARIA Charts are ablaze: Midnights returns to the #1 spot for a 15th non-consecutive week on top, while another 6 albums sit in the top 10 of the Albums Chart.
To celebrate her arrival in Australia, Taylor breaks the record for most albums in the top 10 at one time (and has the entire top five). The previous record was six, held by… Taylor Swift.
The highest new entry of the weeks belongs to Aussie duo Royel Otis, who step onto the chart at #10 with Pratts & Pain. Sydney-based Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic reached #43 last year with the EP Sofa Kings.
Sydney rock band Middle Kids are new at #20 with Faith Crisis Part 1. It’s their third studio album: Lost Friends hit #10 in 2018 and Today We’re The Greatest peaked at #5 in 2021.
On the Singles Chart, Taylor’s Cruel Summer reaches the summit for the first time, almost five years after it first appeared. The track, from her 2019 album Lover, originally peaked at #22 here. It hit the charts again last year when Taylor included it in her current tour setlist.
Cruel Summer is her 11th chart topper here, putting her in a tie with Madonna as the artist with the third most #1 singles in Australia. The Beatles are on top with 26 chart-toppers, followed by Elvis Presley with 14.
Beyonce’s country-infused Texas Hold ‘Em roars from #38 to #3. It’s Queen Bey’s first top 10 hit here since Cuff It reached #8 in 2022. Before this, she had had 15 top 10 solo or duet hits: 03 Bonnie & Clyde (with Jay-Z) in 2002; Crazy In Love and Baby Boy in 2003; Naughty Girl in 2004; Irreplaceable in 2006 (her only #1); Beautiful Liar (with Shakira) in 2007; If I Were A Boy and Single Ladies in 2008; Halo and Sweet Dreams in 2009; Telephone (with Lady Gaga) in 2010; Run The World (Girls) in 2011; Walk On Water (with Eminem) in 2017; and Break My Soul and Cuff It in 2022. She also had nine top 10 hits as a member of Destiny’s Child, including the #1 hit Say My Name in 2000.
Rounding things out, Dua Lipa’s new track Training Season lands at #12 in its first week. It’s the second track from her upcoming third album, which is slated for release later this year.

26 April 2024 In news that will surprise no one, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has swept the ARIA Charts this week, debuting at #1, delivering the entire top 10 on the singles chart and smashing records along the way.
TTPD is her 13th chart-topper in Australia, more than any other woman in Australian chart history. Taylor moves ahead of Madonna to claim third place in her own right on the list of acts with the most chart-topping albums in Australia. Jimmy Barnes leads with 15 as a solo act (he had another five with Cold Chisel), followed by the Beatles with 14.
Once again Taylor replaces herself on top, with last week’s #1 – Lover – slipping to #6. Taylor performed the same magic in March this year when Midnights was bumped out of the top spot by Lover.
Only two of her studio or re-recorded albums have failed to reach the summit. Her debut, Taylor Swift, stopped at #33 in 2006 and Fearless stalled at #2 in 2008. Fearless (Taylor’s Version) did get to #1 in 2021.
Tracks from TTPD swamp the ARIA Singles Chart, with Fortnight featuring Post Malone leading the charge at #1. All 31 tracks hit the top 100, stretching from Fortnight at the top to Robin at #55.
Taylor accounts for the entire top 10, a new record. She came close to setting the record in October 2022, when she had 13 of the top 14, but Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ Unholy ruined the party for her by sitting at #7 that week.
She also has 29 of the top 50, smashing the old record of 20, which was set by Drake in 2021 and, yes, Taylor in 2023.
All up, Taylor has 34 tracks in the top 100: 31 from the new album and three older songs (Cruel Summer, Anti Hero and Lover). The previous record was 32 in one week, held by Michael Jackson and Taylor.
She has now scored a dozen #1 singles here, starting with Love Story in 2008. She didn’t return to the top for another six years, when Shake It Off hit #1. For Post Malone, it’s his fourth #1 and his first since Sunflower with Swae Lee in 2018.
With 12 chart-toppers, Taylor now ranks third on the list of artists with the most #1 singles here, trailing Elvis Presley (14) and The Beatles (26).
The release of TTPD sees Florence + The Machine back in the top 10 for the first time in 12 years, as their duet with Taylor, Florida!!!, debuts at #8. They last visited the region in 2012, when Spectrum (Say My Name) reached #4.
In non-Taylor news, Pearl Jam return to the albums chart at #2 with Dark Matter, their 12th studio album.
Excluding live albums, they were last on the chart in 2020, when Gigaton peaked at #3. The Seattle band has had eight #1 albums in Australia: Vs. in 1993, Vitalogy in 1994, No Code in 1996, Yield in 1998, Binaural in 2000, Riot Act in 2002, Backspacer in 2009 and Lightning Bolt in 2013.
Mark Seymour & The Undertow’s The Boxer debuts at #41. The former lead singer of Hunters & Collectors has released five albums with The Undertow: their third album, Mayday, reached #43 in 2015.
