LMAO, this is amazing. The whole HDD article is amazing. God bless HDD, I don't know what we would do without them. Billboard needs to be shut down!

So confused. So the 22k number HDD listed Merry Christmas is really Caution?
If so pleasantly surprised it held up. Thought the drop would be bigger.

This Week's Billboard Charts Under Review by Nielsen Music News By Billboard Staff | December 04, 2018 6:07 PM EST
The results of the Billboard 200 chart dated Dec. 8, which was announced on Sunday (Dec. 2), are being audited by Nielsen Music due to a processing discrepancy. Upon completion of the in-depth audit of data sources across streaming and retail, Billboard will announce any resulting changes that may affect chart rankings.

HITS
What. A. Shitshow.
That seems to be the industry-wide refrain in response to the latest Billboard chart flap, as the Bible’s prior anointing of Travis Scott as #1 on its Top 200 after a squeaker of a race with 6ix9ine will now be re-run and may be reversed after a challenge.
An email in response to the initial challenge from Drew Bennett at Nielsen reads, "Our team has done a deep dive and found the cause of the initial discrepancy. We've since then reprocessed the jobs necessary and re-finalized the charts. As a result, 6ix9ine's "Dummy Boy" will be moving to #1... Our team is working quickly to identify the root cause of this discrepancy to ensure that we get it right the first time."
This after the Bible launched an eblast as well as a tweet (since deleted) crowning Travis that was picked up around the world—with a custom tiny URL link that read “f6UcK9" (which still works as of this writing).
Sony is mounting its own challenge.
It’s pretty clear that nobody in the Bible’s chart brain trust had a clue who was #1 and who was #2—although “number two” certainly describes what they’ve stepped in.
And what about that custom URL? Even if it was randomly generated and not intended as a slight to the artist, why did none of their resident geniuses catch it? Either way, an explanation is in order.
It would seem the inmates are running the Bible's asylum, although biz observers expect a new set of inmates—as part of yet another changing of the guard—probably before year’s end. Will some of the visionaries who presided over this mess be the next to oversee the once-august publication’s editorial? Failing upward, after all, is the essence of the Amato Doctrine, which appears to remain very much in force in Bible Land even after the departure of its namesake. Stay tuned.

They won’t do a recount on Nicki Minaj’s album because it was truly the #2 album. There is nothing to recount.

They need to remodel the bundle system completely. Price minimum of atleast $4.99 or something, and in the transaction the customer has the option to not accept the bundle, which in return would shave that price off the order total. It shows completely whether someone has interest in an album themselves, versus someone throwing it at them and assuming they do. The bundling itself is a loophole from the get-go. They 'claim' the album price is added to the total, yet whether you redeem a bundle or not... the price of the tour ticket, hoodie, etc is still the same. That shows the price literally isn't changed to include the album. It's a free bonus good thrown in. Also they should really just narrow bundles down to MUSIC related items. This is borderline the same as counting cereal box prizes / McDonald Kids Meal toys as individual purchases. Speaking of which what's the price minimum to chart in Billboard 200 now? Are there actually free albums (or very cheap albums) that charted high in recent memory?

It's Nielsen that's doing the recount, not Billboard. HDD would've done exactly the same, no need to act like they are far superior. They THEMSELVES have had Travis at #1 all week as well.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=314448&title=BILLBOARD:-THE-SHITSHOW-CONTINUESThis is designed as a Billboard hit piece, but the bold actually calls Hits and BuzzAngle into question. They're supposed to be collecting and reporting their own data. Shouldn't they KNOW how many units separate the two albums -- and whether SoundCloud really makes the difference? And if this was such an avoidable issue by Billboard, shouldn't they have been able to avoid it themselves ... instead of reporting that Travi$ Scott took #1? It's so many degrees of weird that they're not even acknowledging their own (supposedly more accurate!) data in this rant.

Wait, I thought the bundles this week were from the Remix + Album.
Are you telling me I missed yet another merch sale from Travis?

As the audit goes on, at least it's not likely to affect who has the top-selling album this week.

As the audit goes on, at least it's not likely to affect who has the top-selling album this week. We know. The only album chart you care about is the sales chart. The thing people need to consider is what the Billboard 200 chart represents. If it’s supposed to measure popularity, it’s doing it in a way that includes freebies and giveaways. It used to be a sales chart and that was pretty straight-forward (unless you disagreed that one unit = one unit when the sale price of one is $15 and the other is $5. Then are they equal? It could be argued yes and no. Both are fair points.) But when they added different types of streaming into it, they attempt to measure apples with oranges and that’s where the confusion and disagreement comes in. This is why Billboard is just one way of determining what the biggest album of the week is. It’s fine to not agree with how they do it. Unfortunately, they’re the main source of determining this so unless something else comes along that measures albums differently each week, it’s all we got.

I've maintained for some time now that if Billboard is a laughingstock then HDD is just as big of one themselves. And what makes matters worse is how desperately HDD constantly tries to shit on Billboard. Ridiculous and annoying.

HDD kinda has some points with Billboard clearly trying to delay the chart to draw less attention to the issue though.
It's now going to be Thursday, and they were aware of the issue Monday at the latest. It doesn't take 3+ days to add a retailer missing.
During the whole Lana/Meek/Tyler the Creator fiasco when Spotify didn't submit streams on time, we even had the chart by now.

Because it's such a tight race as is, they're probably making sure they're leaving no stone unturned both for potentially unreported data and verifying existing data. I don't think it's stalling so much as being thorough and not risking having to call it again thanks to an eleventh hour discovery.
