Don't bother with Cruel Summer. The time was single #1 or #2. It's too late now. I think the "problem" with this album was the production was too light and indie-popish. It is not trendy and there was no way it was gonna do well with the young streaming crowd. Her goodwill at radio carried the singes further than it probably should have gone. This was not 1989 level production which was louder and more commercial. I personally think this is a good sound for her going froward if she's willing to stay in her own lane and make music for her fans (yet still selling a s**t load of albums) but I feel her days of Hot 100 hits may be over. The biggest production was sadly "Me" which may be why it was chosen despite it's terribleness. Even Cruel Summer feels very light compared to the 1989 singles. Still Lover is her third best album to me and I still listen to it regular. During my walks I just alternate between After Hours and Lover for albums. My current album ranking has changed from when it first came out: 1. The Archer 2. Corneilia St 3. Death By A Thousand Cuts 4. Cruel Summer 5. Lover 6. Afterglow 7. I Think He Knows (This was at the bottom before but it grew on me like crazy) 8. Miss Americana 9. False God 10. Daylight 11. Soon You'll Get Better 12. A bunch that weren't listed are tied here 13. Me I can’t agree with her hot 100 hits days being over. Me and you need to calm down both went to number 2 and sold over 300k (a totally respectable number for the current digital age) and went top 10 on pop radio. Taylor is able to get a ton of momentum before a new era and i don’t think we are at the point where that will stop happening yet. 4th singles are hardly released these days without some type of rerelease, they just don’t have a huge path to success in the streaming age. Agreed, we can fully expect the lead single from TS8 to have a huge opening, possibly just as big as or even bigger than "Me!" If the material is even ok (ala "Me!") it will probably do well. If it's something that sticks, she can easily have another big hit on her hands which would give momentum to future singles. Let's also not forget that many female artists that have reached Taylor's level have had big hits 15+ years into their careers (Mariah, Madonna, Janet, Beyonce, Cher), plus Taylor started at a younger age than all of them (except Beyonce, also started at 16). She's still only 30! Also, compared to just about any other female artist today, Lover was actually a great Hot 100 era - two #2s, 3 top 10s, first 3 singles 20+ weeks on the Hot 100. That clearly shows Taylor can still make hits.

She'll still score hits but I think it will be similar to "Me" in that they will debut high then fall pretty quickly. The eras will get shorter.

Y’all are probably right. It’s a shame. Cruel Summer would have been a phenomenal leadoff single, and would have been especially perfect given that the summer was just starting. Probably would have had better longevity than Me too. And if that had happened, there would probably be more hype for the album cycle, which would have boosted both the subsequent singles and the album as a whole (not that the album was hurting or anything).

At this point the best case scenario is new album in 2021 to coincide with her next world tour (Lover Fest is not gonna happen guys, let's be real).

It’s one year since Taylor started the countdown to April 26th, 2019. The day she would drop the lead single from her seventh studio album, also known as her best song to date. :)

I remember a few years ago me and Glove Slap were discussing WANEGBT and IKYWT and he said the first was great and the latter was a dated mess. I disagreed but now I can see the (day)light. WANEGBT is a bop and probably one of her best pop singles. I'm surprised IKYWT gets more daily streams than it, I cannot stand the dated drop now.

ME! is a cute little pop song. Not all music needs to be deep meaning songs. I like it for what it is.

I think "I Know Places" fading into a cover of a song would be a nice choice for this!

Soon You’ll Get Better and a bit of Nice to Have a Friend would be quite fitting for this.

you need to calm down should have been the lead.
I honestly rarely listen to cruel summer. "death by a thousand cuts" is my favorite, and I go back to "Cornelia street," "lover," "the man," "daylight".

Me! should have been for an animated kids movie like Trolls or something. It’s cute and catchy but everything from the bridge to the campiness just doesn’t fit in with her growing sound.

I lowkey think she should release I Forgot That You Existed
It reminds me of Better Now, Goodbyes, Without Me and Needed Me but like in a more subdued way.
I think it would be a major bop as we come out of corona quarantines and transition back to daily life.
It would also smash on Tiktok
I LOVE Cruel Summer... but I’m kinda thinking it will flop

its happening in my country next month :) Wishful thinking on the politicians of your country. And even if they do, you guys will immediately see a second wave of infections. No country has reached the stage of herd immunity yet.

No country has reached the stage of herd immunity yet. Plenty of countries across Europe are expected to lower severity of the quarantine in early May. Portugal included but unfortunately I don't think the July 9 concert in Lisbon is happening

^ Rescheduled, rather, until 2021.
Surprised at that - she will be promoting Lover in 2021? Maybe she'll add more dates and it'll be a dual-album tour...?

I'm still saying this
False God should have been or should be a single The R&B crossover smash in the making.
Aside from Lover, I hate the single choices for this album though YNTCD can get a pass cause I think it was a proper pick even though idc about the song

I thought I read online that Ticketmaster recently changed their policy not to give refunds for postponed/rescheduled tours (because they are the scum of the earth, etc)? Did Taylord use her power and might to force Ticketmaster to give refunds for this show?

Unless it’s a charity single, I doubt Taylor would use the One World concert as a chance to debut & promote a new song.

I feel like she would have posted about it on social/anywhere if she was doing a new song, but who knows?
ME! would also be a surprising choice.

I'm pretty sure that the only appropriate song to be performed there is You Need to Calm Down, maybe with some modified lyrics. Really hope it's not ME!
