Singing Nun, no. That was effectively a hymn. But Disco Duck would qualify as would The Streak by Ray Stevens. Probably the most recent two examples. Several in the late 50s, early 60s. Mr Custer, Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, Monster Mash all come to mind.

The Old Town Road remix is already ahead of the original on iTunes by double the amount (and likely to grow), so depending on the streaming numbers Billy Ray could be credited for the #1 (Iβd say itβs locked to be #1). What's Billboard's rule of added credit? Did Perfect duet pull more streams than Perfect for the 5 f**king weeks it's credited? Or it's just ahead in sales? But I recall Perfect duet fell below Perfect in all metrics almost in its first week.

Perfect was a bit shady, but I assume radio and sales fueled it the first week, and then they decided to let Bey have it for 4 more weeks for some reason. Radio might have been part of it, because the Bey version is the only one I hear, but I doubt that version was the most popular across the board (especially since the music video was for the solo version, too)

Could be, I guess, but between streaming and airplay, I don't see over half the chart points being from the BRC version.

If this remix didn't make Old Town Road returned to the Country Charts, I lost all my respect to Billboard.

If this remix didn't make Old Town Road returned to the Country Charts, I lost all my respect to Billboard. Why? Just because it has a country musician on it? That doesn't make the song a country song. Hell, the only reason the song is even listed as such on iTunes/Apple Music is because it was deliberately put there to cheat the system. It's much easier to get a top selling/streaming song on the country genre charts than hip-hop. Lil Nas X admitted to that himself. Adding in a banjo and rapping with a twang does not make a hip-hop song magically country just like a mild trap beat does not make "7 rings" magically hip-hop. I mean, none of us would want Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem" on the hip-hop/rap chart, even with that Ludacris remix. Why would this be any different?

Can't wait to see how many streams this thing on Spotify, my Instagram feed has been flooded with screenshots of the Old Town Road remix, maybe 3 million, if not more.

Pretty cool seeing two different generations of artists from different genres teaming up together, or same genre if you will

Interesting how the remix is selling 300% the original's selling. But it's streamed only 80% the original's being streamed on spotify.
Either an old-fashioned country artist like Billy's such a streaming-repellent even when featured on a rap song, or that they realized my haunting of the charts.
Is sales chart the best chart or what?

2019, the year where the Jonas Brothers, Bradley Cooper and Billy Ray Cyrus get number one hits. Imagine saying back in 2017 that these would happen within the next two years. Itβs like saying now that before the end of 2020, Paula Abdul, 98 Degrees and Tom Cruise will all have a number one song.

So if bad guy is #1 this week and Old Town Road next week, weβll have consecutive #1s from a Billie and a Billy.

Iβm hoping Lil Nas becomes the next Cardi B. If he maintains the hype and releases another good song after otr dies, he really could be.

It's all about the streams. Back in the day, people would see the performance on American Idol and make the one-time purchase of downloading the song for $.99. Now they'll click on every version, giving it more and more streams over time. Welcome to 2019 Instead of listening to one version 6 times, theyβll listen to both 3 times... Remixes and radio edits had a much bigger impact on iTunes than they do currently on streaming. Did Maroon 5βs streams even increase noticeably from the second video? Using your example, even if the remix is much worse than the original version (Wow.) they'll listen to the song more than 6 times. Now, if it's good... look at OTR, the remix helped the original version, so instead of listening to the original 6 times, now they are listening 8-9 times AND the remix is getting 5-6. M5's second video added only ~2M streams/week but they were #1 by less than 1k points in their last three weeks, so it definitely had an impact. Hot 100's article:"The race for No. 1 on the Hot 100 was a close one; without the new "Girls" video, and the song's ensuing gain, the track seemingly would not have held onto the top spot over "Zeze.""www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8481033/kodak-black-zeze-bad-bunny-drake-mia-hot-100-top-5

Old Town Road: 4,166,000 Spotify streams and probably 9-10M on-demand streams yesterday.
60M is possible this week, but God's Plan's record (68M) is safe.

I don't think it's fair to compare two different tracks to one anyway.

I honestly find it really funny how a Nicki Minaj Stan is going to get a #1 before Nicki Minaj.

On October 20, 1973, Aerosmith first appeared on the Hot 100 with the song "Dream On". Maybe you've heard of it. On September 5, 1998, Aerosmith reached #1 for the first time in their career with "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing". That's a span of about 24 years, 10 months or so. The record for longest time between first appearance and first #1 in Hot 100 history so far. Billy Ray Cyrus first charted on May 9, 1992 with the song "Achy Breaky Heart". Maybe you've heard of it.
Until now, he's never had a #1 song on the Hot 100.
Country #1s.
His debut album, Some Gave All, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200.
But never a #1 on the Hot 100... If Old Town Road hits #1 and Cyrus is credited, he'll break Aerosmith's record of longest span between debut and #1 by nearly three years.

It actually belongs to Santana, with a span of 30 years between his first charting song "Jingo" in 1969 and his first #1 "Smooth" in 1999

Either an old-fashioned country artist like Billy's such a streaming-repellent even when featured on a rap song, or that they realized my haunting of the charts. Is sales chart the best chart or what? Makes sense when you think about how those two components work. You purchase a song once and that's it, that's all that gets counted is your one purchase that one time. Streaming takes into account everytime you listen to the track. The original has been out for awhile already. If you purchased it before now, you're not going to suddenly purchase it again now that a remix exists. You're likely not going to purchase it again ever. However, on streaming, the remix may have resparked your interest to listen to the original again, and that relisten is counted. It's much higher than the original on sales because it's new. It has that luxury there. On streaming, it has to fight continued repeat interest in the original.
