I'm convinced some of y'all don't even follow charts lol. Because clearly if you did you would be aware he does one-off drops not tied to albums almost yearly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signs_(Drake_song)en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0_to_100_/_The_Catch_Upen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_Hand_(song)Fake Love was dropped right on its own after the Views era in 2016, and reached #10 in its first full week. Signs was dropped right on its own after More Life in 2017, and peaked #36. (I remember people claiming because this that his hype died down and 2018 wouldn't be as big as 2016 for him lol) God's Plan is the only time he's ever had a song truly blast off right out the gate that was not during album release. God's Plan was a planned out release though, whereas these were dropped online due to a Championship win lol. And hell no, Adele would not be able to release a song out of the blue with no radio push/music video/prior hype and debut #1 lol. So not even sure why she was named as some type of benchmark to compare to (Hello had a radio deal, music video during premiere, and TV commercials announcing her return weeks prior) The mistake you guys will always ignorantly make is trying to think Hip-Hop artists conduct their eras in similar manner to Pop artists. They don't do these heavily calculcated eras where they plan everything months in advance and have a direct agenda. It will always mostly be throwing things out into the air and going with the flow. See: Cardi dropping 3 singles since October with no album announcement, Post Malone having two songs top 10 this entire year and not having any album announcement in sight. I hate to be annoying, but why didn't you include Hotline Bling? Wasn't it released at the same time as 0 to 100 and Right Hand? (It's also generally a good example of a song that freefalls out of the chart after release that ends up becoming a massive hit in the end). Sort of But it has got decent support too, as opposed to be "just a song out there" as people have also said. You seem to have really high expectations for anything Drake puts out. The truth of the matter is that Drake fans always sorta know which songs to throw their full support behind and the songs to not do that for. I don't really think his fans act that way. I know some stans of his, and they don't really seem to care how well he does in the charts, they just like the whole hip hop-emo thing he does and enjoy the "feels" they get from his music. I think firstly he just has such a massive fanbase that everything he releases does at least moderately well, especially on release week, but also, his songs that end up hits are ones that catch on with the general public (rather than his fans collectively deciding to "support" the song). In some cases he does songs intended for radio (like Hold On We're Going Home), and maybe that's a bit different because they get advertised a lot to the public. But in other cases like with Jumpman (which was charting in the top 40 for ages as an album track, before they even sent it out to radio, and it never got a music video), the song just takes a life of its own and crosses over, either in clubs or through memes/social media or whatever. I think he has a LOT of casual fans who won't really listen to every song, but will get into his songs if they hear it enough times. Also, you can see in cases like with Pop Style and One Dance. Pop Style charted higher on release week, which makes me think it was the song his core fanbase were more interested in (as well as Jay-Z and Kanye fans). But over time all the middle-aged white women (and everybody else) ended up hearing One Dance one way or another, and then playing it themselves and it ended up being a MUCH bigger hit. I don't think it was really a case of his fanbase deciding it was the song to support, rather, it just caught on with the wider public.

Actually, funny story, it gained all the way to its peak. Back to Back was the one of that loosie set that got everyone's attention at first, as the diss track.
Its initial stretch: 66-57-34-29-22-16-9-4-3-2(...)

Its initial stretch: 66-57-34-29-22-16-9-4-3-2(...) Ah yes. It was Back To Back, Hotline Bling and Right Hand that were released at the same time. I though 0 To 100 was released at the same time for some reason (but I do love that song, especially the 2nd half). It's funny, because with Pop Style/One Dance and Back To Back/Hotline Bling, that's two times where Drake released songs on the same day and the one that started out less popular ended up being the one to blow up. (Actually, 3 times if you include In My Feelings debuting lower than Nonstop, but that was an album bomb so a bit different I guess). I haven't heard his new songs, but based on what I've read from others I would expect that neither of them are going to blow up this time.

Songs I see debuting: Taylor Swift - You Need to Calm Down Drake - Money in the Grave (ft. Rick Ross) Drake - Omerta Marshmello - Rescue Me (ft. A Day to Remember)
Maybe: Chris Young - Drowning Joji - Sanctuary Bazzi - Focus (ft. 21 Savage) Ali Gatie - It's You
Probably not, but have some traction: Ashley O - On a Roll BTS & Zara Larsson - A Brand New Day Kelsea Ballerini - Better Luck Next Time Brantley Gilbert - Man That Hung The Moon Little Mix - Bounce Back For King & Country- God Only Knows (with Echosmith) Alec Benjamin - Must Have Been The Wind

One has better streaming, the other has better sales. "It's You" is Top 40 on Apple Music, and almost Top 40 on Spotify, whereas "On a Roll" is in the 100s on both platform. I'm not so sure about YouTube though.

Iβm pretty sure on a roll will be able to chart Not happening this week. No airplay, low digital sales, minor streaming. Maybe Bubbling Under if it's lucky. However, Spotify just added to it Today's Top Hits last night and it rose 19 positions on the daily chart, a 21k increase, after a Thursday add. So next week does look promising for a low placement if those trends continue.

Talk will be #1 for a long time, but I'm happy. It's my favorite radio #1 since Happier or Wild Thoughts.

The two versions of Old Town Road are still #1 and #5 at Pandora, which is probably the only place the song doesn't seem to have significantly fall this week.

Also crazy nobody since Selena Gomez had 3 #1s on pop radio from 1 album Again, because Ariana gave up on her albums too soon. "breathin" peaked at #2 but it was facing strong competition from "thank u, next". "break up with your girlfriend" topped out at #3, but save for release week, promo for it was pretty small. Plus there was always the chance that something else from the album could have gone #1. This is just a testament to how shorter "album eras" are getting. Drake's last album pretty much died down singles wise after "In My Feelings" too. Post Malone moved to standalone singles after "Better Now". Cardi managed to go 4 singles from her last album but that was probably because her pregnancy took her out of the recording booth for a while. If anyone is going 5/6 singles deep again it's probably Taylor Swift. even if TYN didnt exist i doubt breatin would of went number one. High Hopes/Without Me were way to strong

Truth Hurts will be Top 10 in like 2 weeks for sure I'd say. SeΓ±orita will probably Top 5, I wonder how You Need To Calm Down will hold up, it's still doing amazing on Spotify.

...or alienate anybody's fanbase (see Bastille) why? Their album sales have totally collapsed in the UK Just my 2 cents but I think that Happier didn't do any good for their more indie orientated fanbase.

Because fans of rock music hate any ounce of change or evolution. Itβs why rock is dead. Like with country, "evolution" doesn't have to mean "make pop music". But itβs not the end of all ends when it does happen. Iβm sure Bastille can still be decent despite having been on a subpar dance pop song.
