Jesus, at this point Lizzo could drop a remix and take the top spot
Really anyone 2-4 could
I think Billie is probably gunning for the longest stint at number 2 record, they couldβve had number one if they wanted it

Billie Eilish just had a story on her IG that had bad guy playing in the background saying βswipe up give a little more luvβ.... she could easily go number 1 if she discounted both the remix and the original. Maybe even release a diplo/skrillex remix or something lol.. her team needs to think

Lizzo needs to move to number one now to (a) get the number one she deserves because sheβs easily becoming the βitβ girl of the season, and (b) to make me right in my prediction from a month or so ago.

OTR is done.
I want Billie, Shawn and Lizzo to all get a week at #1 each in turn.

If Bad Guy and SeΓ±orita both reached number one, that would knock the number of OTR blocked songs back from 7 to 5, right? I kinda lost count. But if that happened, Old Town Road would lose exclusivity to that record and go back into a tie with Percy Faith and Bryan Adams.

I don't think so because according to Joel Billboard didn't start storing their information on computers until 1984. Plus before 1991 the sales charts were based on ranked store reports which could have easily been fabricated. Sales were way harder to track before the advent of barcode scanners. Thank you for your response. Damn! So there is literally NO way for us to know what the weekly sales of βThrillerβ or βPurple Rainβ or βBADβ etc. was at ANY point during their chart runs? That said, I wonder how many Hot 100 & BB200 chart runs were fabricated pre-Soundscan? I still donβt understand how between 1985 - 1991 there wasnβt a single song that spent more than 5 weeks at number one... Like a Virgin > Rush, Rush. No, we can never know a weekly total. One thing you can do is look at the RIAA certification history for specific albums. It won't give you a weekly total, but it can help give you an idea of what an album was averaging in a certain time span.

Unbelievable no song is above 400 points!! This chart is DOA for months now. Well, isn't that more normal? Songs from 7 Rings (for many weeks) to Sucker to Shallow were all #1 with under 400 points.

Not always accurate either - but it is the best available
Classic example - Grease Soundtrack is 8x platinum - reality it is much higher than that

Don't release another 'Bad Guy' remix, just drop a (decent) music video for the Bieber remix. If OTR is dropping *that* many points then there's a chance that her airplay advantage might finally be enough to overcome OTR's bulls**t overbloated f**kery especially if she offsets the streaming deficit.

If the option is a new remix with a new featured guest over anything else, always go for the remix π

That won't have what it is now or what it should be now. You could probably guess that it is around 20 million
8 milion from 1978-1984 About another 6-7 million or so in the Soundscan era Then 5 million between 1984 and 1991 seems reasonable
Doubt it is getting alot of streaming

^ somelikeitwhen, Joel Whitburn actually posted on here? Cool.
He probably meant that Billboard.biz's archives currently (available to the public) go back to 1984. Everything prior to that year is spotty since the employees at Billboard haven't gotten around to updating many older charts online.

Itβs kind of interesting.
Grease is actually one of the bestsellers of the 70βs. Culturally, a very important film from that era, a truly golden time period...

Plus, labels didn't always certify a product at the moment it became eligible. They'd drag their feet in some instances. And, yes, Billboard and other charts companies did the best with what they had at their disposal.
Grease was a double album- was the 8 million cert supposed to represent 4 or 8 million? In any event, definitely has sold more than double-digit millions.
But, back to the Hot 100... "Old Town Road" doesn't need to add more weeks to its historic run, though just for kicks, it is.

It honestly has not sunk in yet about how legendary of a run Old Town Road is having, I can't believe I'm alive to witness this. In 2039 I'll be able to say I saw Old Town Road in it's heyday. Like holy f**king s**t almost 20 weeks at #1 is incredible, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus managed to evade pop's biggest stars like Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, etc. and is still clinging onto the top spot. This is history folks. Some unknown dude and the achy-breaky heart guy managed to shift an entire industry with this song, I can't wait for someone to write how influential this track was 5 years from now. We are already seeing copycats like Blanco Brown and his country/rap dance song The Git Up getting some success right now. I expect lots of more country/trap songs to crossover and become hits in the near future.

OTR had a monopoly on all the points lol. Seems like with how weak OTR is finally looking, we're about get to many 1 or 2 week number ones possibly. Truth Hurts, Senorita, maybe Single 3 from Taylor, Circles maybe I'm excited for Circles to come out, I've been addicted to it. Hopefully the mainstream loves it too, with the Tame Impala production and everything.
