Can someone please tell me why does Lewis Capaldi in Someone You Loved sound like he is in pain in the chorus and the bridge? It's called expressing emotion and feeling through song because it's a heartbreak ballad. It's what good singers do. Good singers don't sound like cats being strangled to death.

He "sounds like he is in pain" because it sounds like there is a hole in his windpipe which I would assume is pretty painful

No. A singer/vocalist showcasing 'emotion' does not, in any capacity, mean that they must forsake healthy vocal technique for the mere cause of sounding, or trying to sound, 'expressive'. Capaldi's larynx throughout the song is, quite literally, touching the heavens, and it's even more apparent when he is performing the song live. When his vocal cords completely prolapse and hemorrhage sometime within the next few months it honestly wouldn't come as a surprise.

I hope he's able to improve the health of his vocal cords and improve his singing technique; he's going to be singing this one hit for a long time, and he needs to preserve his vocal cords for all those county and state fairs.

I think that "Someone You Loved" could go to #1 if no big releases are coming soon and it can continue to climb in all metrics.

The only thing I can say is that if Capaldi going top 3 is so upsetting to so many of you that you feel the need to trash talk the song every other post and drag him to death, well, it's gonna be a tough few weeks for you.
We get it. You've all made your point. You don't like the song. Now move on please!

SYL is one of those basic ballads that come to rule the charts on a yearly basis. It's not worth of any meltdowns. People are so dramatic on the internet.

This will be Sunflower's 50th week and it's currently #13, this might be the first song since Shape Of You to escape the 52 week rule. The song is still Top 10 on Spotify and continues to gain. What a journey that song has had. Sunflower may need to have 60-70 weeks if it wants to nab a place in the 2020 YE, although it's not likely happen. K

Wow if No Guidance re-peaks yet again.
To put into perspective: Chris's last song to peak 17+ weeks into its chart run was his feature "Show Me" (with Kid Ink) in 2013. He's never had a song as lead artist peak this late. Drake's last song to peak 17+ weeks into its chart run was his feature "Come & See Me" (with PARTYNEXTDOOR) in 2016 [also SICKO MODE, but you know..]. His last song as lead artist to peak this late was "Take Care" in 2012.

I'm just so happy Wale finally has a hit on his hands with On Chill. It's been too long. It'll reach the top 20 easily, but I hope it somehow manages to reach the top 10. It's doing really well on radio.

Those are some brutal numbers for Don't Call Me Angel, though. With all those Ariana stans you would think someone would stream that song.

I’m really interested to see how “10,000 Hours” does this week. Dan + Shay will catch the eye of the country fans and I’m pretty sure it’ll have some kinda radio deal over there as well as being the biggest country song digitally for the week. With Bieber on it that brings so many fans of his music. I think it will be fun to track it, I think it has potential of being pretty big right out of the gate.
Also, another country act that I can see having a big week this fall is Luke Combs. He’s releasing an album in November and it is in the same streaming tracking week as the CMA’s. One track he put out just for fun “1,2 Many” charted in the 90’s a couple weeks back and I could see a mini album bomb for him near the bottom of the chart which would be really fun to see!

As younger country fans continue to gravitate to streaming I think we'll start to see some country album bombs, and eventually the genre could make a powerful surge on the Hot 100.

Wow, the Trampoline remix is making that much of an impact! Will Zayn be credited on the charts next week? I'm not sure, but there is a decent chance he will. The remix is obviously leading the original in sales and I figure that it also leads in streams this week, though I have no way of confirming that or knowing by how much. The only caveat is that airplay, the song's strongest component, is virtually all the original version right now.

I've gotta say, I love how the streaming era throws a wrench into what a single is meant to be and how an album era is meant to progress.
Lizzo made a new album stacked with pop-esque, catchy hit-ready singles like Soulmate and Juice and none of them take off. What does? Truth Hurts, a song she released in 2017. The second song of hers that's taking off now? Good As Hell, a song she released in 2016.
Same thing happened to artists like Post Malone and Khalid. Even Billie Eilish and Bryson Tiller back in 2015. All of them released projects that didn't have any impact upon release, but quickly grew to become fan favorites and they all scored hit records from those albums.
It's also become a common thing now to wait and see the song getting the most engagement following an album's release to know which song to push next as a single.
I love it for the simple fact that it's forcing labels to come out of their conservative shells and it's casting aside their decades of data that tells them there's only one way to make a song or an album work and I love that it's leading to them letting artists take more chances in their music.
Sleeper hit singles and albums are by no means a new thing, but they're happening more and more in the streaming era. Two of my favorite albums this decade, Miguel's Kaleidoscope Dream and Adele's 21, were sleeper hit albums with sleeper hit singles that arrived well before the streaming era.

Yeah, what's happening with Lizzo is the 2019 equivalent of Post making a radio ready dancehall song with Justin Bieber and having it flop, while an upbeat trap song with Quavo wound up being the hit that thrust him into the mainstream (though unlike Lizzo, both were from the same album and the latter didn't take two years to blow up).
