He also dropped multiple limited edition vinyls of the two singles. He's the latest artist to have done so since Taylor Swift, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish (and possibly a few others as well). We've definitely entered a new age of physical media targeted exclusively towards the hardcore fans.

Whats My Name came out over a month after Only Girl, so I wouldn't consider those two as dual singles They hit #1 on the Hot 100 with only 1 week in between them. How were they not competing/dual? Maybe competing but not dual singles. I’m not even sure if What’s My Name was even intended to be a single when it was initially released. But from what I remember, it just exploded anyway.

I’d buy all of these singles if they were at my local stores. I really miss the days of physical cd singles.

Even when it was officially released, Abel was already tweeting advertisement deals Mercedes' new electric car to go along with it. I'm sure they'll still make a music video.

Yeah I'm aware, it's just interesting that for the the last minute of the commercial music video, it's just a still image of "Blinding Lights"' single artwork (could've easily looped some scenes or something, seems low effort to me). Speaking of the actual music video, it was filmed a couple of weeks ago in Vegas, which means that we should be getting it relatively soon.

If we are talking dual releases (or closely released songs) that smashed together, look at earlier this year. 7 Rings and BUWYGIB were released as singles 3 weeks apart and were both top 3 on the hot 100 at the same time. As well as the lead single being top 3. Sure Break up didn't enjoy the same longevity as 7 Rings but it still did well.

The most successful example of dual singles was OutKast's "Hey Ya!'/"The Way You Move", with both of them topping the Hot 100 and becoming enduring hits in their own right. A big difference with that example though is that the songs were essentially André 3000/Big Boy solo singles and sounded like different artists on the radio (which was a bigger factor at the time). How far apart were "Only Girl..." and "What's My Name?" That was a funny situation where the second single hit #1 before the lead single, but regardless they were clearly charting and peaking close together. I think I'd consider them dual singles. They did peak close together but I think "What's My Name" was intended as a second single after "Only Girl" had peaked at number three. The label was already moving on after the lead single had failed to hit number one. "What's My Name" had charted at number 60 from airplay and rocketed to #1 after the digital release; the following week it plunged to #7. The week after that, (the week of the album release), "Only Girl" made a surprise move to the top as 'Loud' debuted at #3. It then fell and "What's My Name" stabilized as it was promoted as the second single. They were close together but they were never promoted as dual singles. It was just the weird circumstance of the album release causing "Only Girl" to top the chart after "What's My Name" (which was powered thanks to Drake's burgeoning stardom). The charts moved quicker then and "What's My Name" performed similarly to other iTunes driven one-week-wonders of the era: "Break Your Heart", "Not Afraid", "We R Who We R".

Rihanna’s only U.S dual releases in her career have been:
• Stay & Pour It Up
• Needed Me & Kiss It Better
“Hate That I Love You” was intended to be a dual release with “Don’t Stop The Music”, they were both sent to Pop radio and Digital stores (iTunes/MSN) at the same time in August 2007 in the U.S (not worldwide), but “DSTM” was pulled a week later from both and released again in December/January.
I believe the biggest example of a Female artist releasing dual singles and have them become simultaneous successes this past decade is Beyoncé’s “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies”.
“If I Were A Boy” was sent to Pop radio, while “Single Ladies” was sent to Urban radio. They were both sent to Rhythmic radio at the same time. Nevertheless, her record label held back the digital release of “Single Ladies” while “If I Were A Boy” was climbing the charts. Eventually, “Single Ladies” was released Digitally, crossed over to Pop radio and peaked at number one on the Hot 100 while “If I Were A Boy” peaked at number three.
All in all, “If I Were A Boy” was the bigger success internationally, chart wise, while “Single Ladies” dominated the North American charts.
Also, “Irreplaceable” and “Upgrade U” were released as dual singles in 2006, both were sent to Urban and Rhythmic radio simultaneously. “Irreplaceable” completely cannibalised “Upgrade U” however and became an airplay smash-hit and of course a ten-week number one on the Hot 100.

Even though I like the song, I predict 'everything i wanted' to flop. I'm afraid it's just a bit to understated to really have longevity and it's not really the big bop people who liked bad guy would want. (watch a million people misinterpret this as how billie is "ALREADY FLOPPING")

I wonder which songs are gonna be blocked out of the top 10 due to Christmas songs this year. Last year it was Wake Up in the Sky and Money. PREDICTION: Roxanne will peak the week of December 28th and be cockblocked at #2 by Mariah. Mariah and all the other Christmas songs will completely plummet off the next week's chart but something else will already have surpassed Roxanne

Charts have finally updated. Sucker, Money in the Grave, Dancing with a Stranger, Liar, and I Don't Know About You are off. Somehow One Thing Right did not drop-off despite being below the Top 50 at 23 weeks.

Somehow One Thing Right did not drop-off despite being below the Top 50 at 23 weeks. I’m so disappointed “Liar” ended up being a flop. It makes such a creative use of two well known samples (Ace Of Base’s “All That She Wants” and Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long”) while still retaining a distinct originality and Camila’s signature sound. And the instrumentals are so fun! I seriously don’t understand how we let the basic as hell “Señorita” become the biggest hit for both Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello this year, when they both had infinitely superior songs.

Same deal with Travis Scott, every new release will be compared to Sicko Mode.

I'd consider HIGHEST to be a bit of an underperformance considering that it was a #1 debut and only spent three weeks in the top 10. It's not a flop though, just a minor hit, similar to Money in the Grave.

Highest In The Room was weak sauce compared to other Travis songs. It felt like a rejected Astroworld track. At least it's not gonna be in his next album.

What position did Money in the Grave peak at finally before falling off? I didn't know it was still charting. Thought it'd fallen off weeks ago.

Enough with the double single releases. It didn't work for Camila Cabello either. As for Selena Gomez, it kinda worked but it was obvious from day one that LYTLM was the actual lead. I think double singles get released with both the artist and the label knowing fully well that only one of them will truly take off, especially in situations where one of the singles sounds catchy/radio friendly and the other doesn't. Sometimes, I think artists do it to give fans two different sounds/styles of their music/appeal to different parts of their fanbase and sometimes I think after a long time without releasing new music, artists are just so excited to share new music that they drop more than one single at a time. It works to verifying degrees depending on the artist. Shape of You/Castle on the Hill were both top 10 hits that ended up performing really well commercially even though Shape of You ended up becoming the bigger hit. God's Plan/Di plomatic Immunity both debuted in the top 10 and Diplomatic Immunity would have perhaps performed better if it wasn't tailored as a song that wasn't at all catchy and radio wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole. God's Plan ended up becoming the hit for obvious reasons, but Drake still got a top 10 debut in Diplomatic Immunity. Sometimes, just that is worth it. And for artists like Cami,la who drop multiple songs off their album before the actual album release, music is funny. Artists make the songs, but they don't necessarily determine what fans gravitate towards and support and sometimes it takes 2/3/4 singles to score a song that fans are willing to get behind. The weird thing is that Blinding Lights is a million times more radio friendly, but it barely seems to be getting any promo at all compared to Heartless. Usually it's a Money In The Grave/Omerta situation where one is obviously the single, but both Heartless and Blinding Lights sound like singles which makes this same promotional strategy really odd.

It could also follow the path of Panini where the artist gives it just enough push to stay in the top 40 until the other single runs out and they can push it as a proper single

I wonder if the Blinding Lights video will be released next week (assuming he’s filmed one). It’d be pretty cool if he went #1 with Heartless and then dethrone himself the following week with a slight BL push. Haven’t had a back to back dethroning since Drake.
