I have a hard time believing Warner isn't going to go for a heavy push next week to get this to #1. It's just too close. Wouldn't shock me in the slightest to see Harry suddenly slow down next week and this to blow up. I'm gonna try to sneak in a general question based on this. Why does a pop radio #1 matter so much? Especially if it's clear that the song would peak at #2 without whatever extra push? Does it really help the artist's radio reputation that much? Not about Dua. I love the song and I'm actually rooting for it to amass as many chart achievements as it can, but I never got the whole "push for a pop #1" thing, watching so many other artists do it over the years.
It's a great look for both the internal radio promo team and the artist. The promo team can use it internally to ask for raises and externally to help push future singles from the same artist. While there's nothing wrong with a #2, getting that #1 makes all the more easier to keep the momentum going.

Bonus -potentially daft- question. Is the "push for #1" just a matter of booking interviews and doing radio promo and other special things to solicit extra spins or does the promo team communicate with radio stations, telling them to play the song more? A combination of both?

I hope Harry hits a brick wall for a couple days to give this a week at #1! Even if it doesn't get to #1, I hope it keeps climbing to reach a high spin/audience total!

They need to discount this now. If this ends up at #1 on Pop, missing the top 10 on Hot 100 would be disappointing. Not sure if the extra sales would really help, but it needs all the points it can get.

I really want them to go all in. Seems like they're finally picking up on the promo now that she can actually do it which should help. Interviews are helping. But they need to release some remixes, discount it to 69 cents, and push it on streaming services i really want this to reach the top ten it's just too close not to.

A combination of both? I’ve been asking for months. No one seems to really know for certain. I'm not an industry insider lol but from what I've read over the years it's a combination of both. There are allegedly people working the connection between record labels and radio program directors (like contractors) that essentially get paid to use their network and incentivize stations to play certain songs. (Which explains how debut singles by major label artists have a much higher chance charting that indie labels, but I don't think this is a factor for the top ten airplay songs for the most part since nearly all tend to be from major label artists or have a major label distributor.) This is kind of similar to what we used to do at the magazine I worked for in New York: if we got an e-mail from a trusted PR agency about something it would be much more likely for us to feature that person/product/store/whatever versus had the e-mail come from a random e-mail address or a PR firm that we hadn't worked with before. One thing I keep saying is about people implying a monetary incentive directly from the artist's team/label to the radio stations, which is against the federal law and would be a punishable criminal act. Even the more obvious examples like "My Oh My" and "Intentions" have most definitely benefited from the stuff above and not a paycheck from Scooter Braun or whoever Camila's team is (is she still signed to Simon Cowell's label?).

Do sales for remixes count towards the Hot 100? If so, that Moon Boots Remix is hot and I wouldn’t mind plopping down my $1.29 for it if it means it would help impact “Break My Heart”’s Hot 100 position.

Yup, any remixes, alternate mixes and videos related to the song will count towards the Hot 100.

Okay, and this makes much more sense to me. Essentially, local (or ‘local’) reps from labels would pitch a new single or song to a program director in much the same way a PR person would pitch a story to a news show. They either pick up on it or they don’t but it’s about the relationship between the label rep and the PD. If the pitch comes from a respected, known or recognized label/rep, it’ll get picked up more often. I won’t lie, I don’t know why I didn’t think of that before. When I worked at a theatre as a marketing/PR person, I had much better luck getting pitches picked up by local news than when I worked at an art gallery. The theatre was more involved and had more local connections than the gallery. And sometimes, news media reached out to me to see if there were story ideas, which they wouldn’t do if they didn’t know me or the place i worked for. There were also ad buys and contracts involved too. We’d be more likely to get a nod if we regularly bought ad space or air time with the publication/network. So that might be where a money component might come in.

I’m hoping they push it for a higher peak on H100. Not sure how many juice WRLD songs will fall below it. Pop #1 and top 15 H100 would be satisfying enough.
