Get that #1 Dua!
Any word yet on what her next single will be stateside? Are they going with "Hallucinate" here or something else?

Yeah, this peaked unfortunately... But it's pretty obvious that they were payolaing the song to #1. Oh well

Cynthia, I think we're dealing with that kind of stan so IDK if it's worth trying to engage... I'm not a stan. I love Rihanna, so good try.

First of all, who would've thought 9 months ago that we'd have 2 back to back #1 pop hits? GO DUA!!!!!!!!
Second, the Rihanna vs Dua comparisons are way too difficult. As a huge fan of both artists I think they have almost opposite career beginnings. "Pon de Replay" was a big hit upon release, but she was initially seen as a potential one hit wonder, and it took 2 more albums for Rihanna to become the megastar she is now. Rihanna's initial success was based off of single releases, and she only released 2 singles off of her first album, both hitting top 10 on pop. Dua on the other hand has had many single releases from her first album, and was a slow to build artist who had one massive hit from her first album, some great features, and a critically acclaimed second album that so far has spawned two #1 pop hits. I really can't see the comparisons here.

There was a push to get it to #1. It's the new normal in the format. It's not surprising now after like 50 different instances dating back to "Sorry Not Sorry" and "Look What You Made Me Do".
Happy to see it at #1 but also ready for whatever is next.

it looks like theyβre focusing on un dia now, but wonβt that leave the US without an active FN single once this falls? and i feel like pushing hallucinate and un dia at the same time in the US would be a bad idea

Get that #1 Dua! Any word yet on what her next single will be stateside? Are they going with "Hallucinate" here or something else? No official word. A couple alleged insiders on ATRL have stated it's a fan favorite album track that isn't "Levitating." One of the them stated the song will receive both a remix and a featured artist. The other implied that they're going to let "Hallucinate" do it's thing in the UK for at least another month before it comes out. Makes sense since "Break My Heart" will likely be dropping here at that point and both regions will need a new single. My prediction is "Love Again" if they want to keep releasing the best songs from the album, but I guess it's possible that it could be "Cool" or "Pretty Please" since one might consider those fan favorites as well.

kind of bummed this didnβt hit top 15 but #1 on pop and top 20 on the hot 100 was more than i thought this would achieve. now to see if radio lets both un dia and levitating smash which seems unlikely.

"un dia" doesn't have a chance on radio because the yts would rather listen to Lewis Capaldi and Surfaces than a non-English song. would love to be proven wrong, though because it's a bop.

*"Hands to Myself" At least that was the first real big one I noticed. Oh i thought that song was organic and was peopleβs favourite from revival I mean, songs can still have organic rises to the upper regions of the chart, be well loved, and still receive an inflated push to get a #1 peak. I had to double check to make sure, and yup, it was an inflated push to #1 just like this. In fact its Monday after securing the #1 was even harsher than this one! HTM went from +100s to -100s the very next day. π LOL yeah this was definitely label manipulation. Songs don't just go from peaking to +100s for a full week and then back to -100s the day after it stops mattering. Still happy for Selena, but I hope this doesn't become a common practice on Pop like it is on Country. Reading this back now is kinda sad lol. "I hope this doesn't become common practice." Oops.

I was going to point that out too (except in my head I thought it was Same Old Love, I couldn't remember). If I remember right, Send My Love (To Your New Lover) had a similar push in 2016, too

I'm not going to deny that there was a push from Warner that this could reach atop at Pop, but I think this was done in a 'subtle' way, like "Adore You" back in April. Reading back the thread, I agree with the comparisons already made with that song and "Blinding Lights". Both of them were expected to reach atop this format after "Don't Start Now" peaked, but "Blinding Lights" was gaining too fast, so Columbia pushed for "Adore You" before the latter caught it up and it feels the same happened with "Break My Heart" and "Watermelon Sugar" last week.
Obviously, everything I said won't be true if "Break My Heart" ends up plummeting in the following days and it will be like "My Oh My", "Intentions" and "Falling" instead.

After the realization from last week about label pushes, Iβm less skeptical about them being suspicious and mysteriously bad. I guess the only thing I wonder about them in regards to short-lived explosive rises like this got in the last week is how to get radio stations PDs to participate in playing the song more. Maybe all it entails is a mass-delivered email to PDs from a βrespected my label rep saying βhelp us get Break your Heart to #1 this weekend!β Like, is there an incentive? Maybe the incentive is good will that that rep will be more likely to include your station in news and goodies at a later point? Could it actually be that simple?

*"Hands to Myself" At least that was the first real big one I noticed. Oh i thought that song was organic and was peopleβs favourite from revival hands to myself peaked #7 on hot 100 ,it stayed many weeks inside of top 20 on hot 100 and yes it went number one on pop radio just like her previous two singles of the 'revival' era...it was a Max Martin song so of course radio played the song hard!!

Everytime this has a chance to move closer to the top 10 an album bomb happens.

That means the payola theories were a bit wrong. If this had been a payola driven hit, it would of fallen like a rock.
