Do you plan on doing this for the 2000s as well? I'd also ask for the 90s, but then I remember that, with the exception of 1999, Billboard didn't include airplay into their Hot 100 charts for the 90s.

They did include airplay, they just didn't allow airplay-only songs without a physical single to chart. Airplay's been involved for years, they actually started using actual audience impressions and monitored spins at the start of the 1992 chart year.

As of now, I’m planning on just going back to 2010. If I have nothing better to do, I might go back to the 2000s, but that’s very far from guaranteed.

I don't know if I would like this new 2016 scenario with the brilliant "Adventure Of A Lifetime" missing.
"One Dance" is a better Year-End #1 than "Love Yourself", that's for sure, but I would have still loved to have "Closer" take the top spot.
Regardless, congratulations for all your work making these charts.

This is a similar and equally valid methodology to to my "complete" scoring system. You use chart positions strictly within the calendar year. I've taken all of each song's chart run and assigned the song to the year it first reached its chart peak. You can see my results for 2018 thru 2020 in THIS THREAD. And the top songs of each year going back from 2017 to 1986 HERE.

always edit quoted list text for the love of god I'm actually interested in what the chart of the 2012-2013 school year, the year I graduated high school, looks like. I might try to do that in the future, the main problem is it's hella hard cuz i don't have pre 2018 #s in a spreadsheet at this point.

Having "Night Changes" and especially "Ghost" getting caught between years would be such a heartbreaking scenario.

So basically these are the songs that were caught between years that would've made it in the January to December scenario:
2015 - Where Ya At, Again, Sangria, Homegrown, Throw Sum Mo (The Hanging Tree, Tuesday, Ghost, and Night Changes got caught instead) 2016 - The Greatest, Ooouuu, Chill Bill, Setting The World on Fire, In The Name of Love (Antidote, IKWYDLS, Adventure of a Lifetime, and Perfect got caught instead) 2017 - Ready For It, When It Rains It Pours, The Weekend (All Time Low and Water Under The Bridge got caught instead) 2018 - Broken, I'm A Mess, Ring (Plain Jane, Sky Walker, and Lemon got caught instead) 2019 - Lover and On Chill based on current predictions (Leave Me Alone got caught instead)
Quality wise I would still prefer the December-November scenario except for 2019 (2017 would be a heartbreak either way). However, I still think the January-December scenario would be more representative of the actual top songs of the year.

Except for ‘16 and ‘19, the songs we lose in the new scenarios are not worth it for the songs we gain

Honestly, in my opinion, 2015 is so good that even after losing Night Changes and Ghost, there are still like 30 songs that are best list material. Plus, while I’m not sure either are as good as NC and Ghost, I really like Sangria and Homegrown and even Again. So it balances out for me anyways.

I think there's a couple of mistakes here. Like I'm Gonna Lose You - 23 weeks instead of 24. Additionally the title is a bit off. She Knows - This is the big one. It should have lost three weeks and almost certainly been caught between years Prayer In C - 99% sure this was the first song to miss the year end list? How did you figure that it got less points than Throw Sum Mo
Regardless that's bound to happen and I'm extremely grateful for you for posting these! 2015 is my favorite year of the decade and so I've been excited about this one

Okay yeah I forgot to deduct the points from She Knows. As for Prayer in C, it had two weeks chart in December 2014. It was still close to making it (I have #103, after Crash and Burn and now She Knows), but yeah, just a little off.

Okay yeah I forgot to deduct the points from She Knows. As for Prayer in C, it had two weeks chart in December 2014. It was still close to making it (I have #103, after Crash and Burn and now She Knows), but yeah, just a little off. OOF I forgot about that. What would we have to do to put that poor song on a top 100

So basically these are the songs that were caught between years that would've made it in the January to December scenario: 2015 - Where Ya At, Again, Sangria, Homegrown, Throw Sum Mo (The Hanging Tree, Tuesday, Ghost, and Night Changes got caught instead)2016 - The Greatest, Ooouuu, Chill Bill, Setting The World on Fire, In The Name of Love (Antidote, IKWYDLS, Adventure of a Lifetime, and Perfect got caught instead)2017 - Ready For It, When It Rains It Pours, The Weekend (All Time Low and Water Under The Bridge got caught instead) 2018 - Broken, I'm A Mess, Ring (Plain Jane, Sky Walker, and Lemon got caught instead)2019 - Lover and On Chill based on current predictions (Leave Me Alone got caught instead)Quality wise I would still prefer the December-November scenario except for 2019 (2017 would be a heartbreak either way). However, I still think the January-December scenario would be more representative of the actual top songs of the year. 2016 and 2018 YE could've been better with the January-December with the songs that missed in the real one (particularly The Greatest, In The Name of Love, Broken, and I'm A Mess)

Even if "The Greatest" and "In The Name Of Love" are pretty good songs in their own right, "Adventure Of A Lifetime" is one of my favorite Coldplay singles of the decade, and I wouldn't bear having it get caught between years (just think of that impeccable guitar riff 😍). Additionally, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Perfect" are most welcome additions to the 2016 Year-End, and it would suck to have them caught.
As for 2018, I don't know... "I'm A Mess" and "Broken" are decent, albeit rather unremarkable songs, and having them over 2018 highlights like "Lemon" and "Sky Walker" would be a shame. Regardless, the biggest crime here is the amazing "IDGAF" not making it. 😭😭😭

"Do What U Want" being caught between years would be such a shame. Controversy aside from the featured artist, it's such an incredible and powerful song from Gaga, and one of the best from her discography.
"Stay The Night" has always stood as a meh song to me, so I wouldn't mind it missing the list. Same with "Adore You" by Miley.
So, which are the songs that made this list and not the Billboard 2014 Year-End?

Blank Space, Take Me to Church, I’m Not the Only One, Jealous, Waves, Riptide, Blame and Love Me Harder. Out of all of those, Blame is the only one that didn’t make the 2015 official list.

Lol @ Love Me Harder with the year end run of 100 then 89. How did you even know it would be here when you posted the 2015 one? Love these always, woulda been nice to see Blank Space on the official 2014 year end list because it just seems so instrumental to the culture of that year.
I think there's just one mistake at the wonky chart run given to Love Runs Out. Even then I think it's just a typo with the weeks and peak because the actual position it's in is right

"Blame" would be a most welcome addition to the Year-End, especially as a way to make up for "Love Me Again" being utterly snubbed in the US.

I do these well in advance of posting them. The 2014 list was done before I posted the 2015 list, and the 2013 list is already done right now. I don’t have the 2012 list finished though, and I don’t want to post the 2013 list until that one has been finished
