I’ve been thinking about that. And I’ve decided that I’m going to do the 1970s after finishing the 1991 list. That said, I think I’m going to take a break and get to it next year. I’m gonna have a busy schedule coming up after August, so using this as an off period would be nice. But rest assured, I will be getting to it. In fact, if I have some extra time, I might just begin working on them during my off period, and depending on how many I end up making, I could post the charts on weekly basis in 2022 instead of biweekly (we’ll have to see). And yes, I will post a 2021 chart in December as well. What format are you using and how are you calculating the YE#? Also,Thanks for your hard work and enjoy your break. These lists are very nice to look at. Inverse that I came up with for pre-92 (it’s meant to look similar to the all time formula, with bonuses for consecutive weeks at #1 and the top 10 not weighed disproportionately to the rest of the chart), and real points for the post-92 charts

I'm curious to see how that would look like.

The reason I ask is because I've been waiting awhile to do 1992 because there's like four songs from the original 1992 list that are all tossups for the new 1991 list and I'd just like to know if they make it or not before I post the 1992 but if you don't feel like doing it now then I'll just create the 1992 and then fix it later if need be

At my current rate, 91 will be coming out sometime around the second week of September (although I might look to speed it up if need be)

I have completed September 2014 on Crownnote. I just have three months left to finish and then I'll have the Crownnote Jan-Dec YE for 2014. Just giving you guys an update.
Btw, Eric Church has a shot at a YE hit on this list, depending on the cutoff. Not a large shot, but a shot nonetheless. Also Demi Lovato could get Neon Lights onto the list depending on the cutoff and it's more likely than Eric Church.

Oh I should've mentioned. The Eric Church song that has a shot at making it is Give Me Back My Hometown.

Oh also I probably won't get much of it done today as I have a very long drive today, 6 or 7 hours. I may be able to do some of it once we arrive but that'll be pretty late in the day.
I'd expect it to be done in the next few days. I'll also change the dates once I've finished November 2014 to generate what the Crownnote list looks like with the Billboard chart year and then change them back.

I'm curious to see how that would look like. I believe my friend Alex has posted all of 2021 so far on Crownnote, which uses an inverse system. I would link it but I can't remember the name of the account he posted it on. Oh well, when I find it I will link it for you.

I believe he has also done all of 2020 too so you could look at that.

I think I’m starting to understand how The Twist became the #1 song of all time according to Billboard. I mean, it’s not the biggest song ever, and the idea of creating an all time chart that is limited to a song’s chart run is beyond flawed (songs like Don’t Stop Believin, Bohemian Rhapsody, Thriller, Hotel California and Respect are some of the most iconic songs in the history of American music, yet none are on the all time chart), but by that standard, yeah, I’m guessing The Twist will now be on 3 different J-D lists, which is almost unimaginable for any song

13 more songs added to the playlist for 1961, including Please Mr. Postman, which I'm surprised never made an official Billboard YE while the Carpenters' version (which also went to #1) did so over a decade later.

Please Mr. Postman aged pretty well. It inspired Feel It Still, which in turn, inspired Sucker.

I think I’m starting to understand how The Twist became the #1 song of all time according to Billboard. I mean, it’s not the biggest song ever, and the idea of creating an all time chart that is limited to a song’s chart run is beyond flawed (songs like Don’t Stop Believin, Bohemian Rhapsody, Thriller, Hotel California and Respect are some of the most iconic songs in the history of American music, yet none are on the all time chart), but by that standard, yeah, I’m guessing The Twist will now be on 3 different J-D lists, which is almost unimaginable for any song Yeah the power of The Twist is truly brought to light with the January-December format because it made 3 year end lists, probably in the top 10 twice, and now that all its points are accounted for on year end lists you can see that if you stack them together then they just hit an outrageously high number compared to every other song throughout these 60's year end lists. It's already at 639023 points and there's still an entire 18 week chart run with a week at #1 that hasn't been accounted for. It *might* even hit 1.1 million which is more than double a lot of the #1 songs of the year in the middle of the decade. Really its chart run was a level of distanced from the competition that is only comparable to Blinding Lights.
All I Want For Christmas Is You will probably make the 2021 though and tie the record of 3 year end lists and then probably surpass it soon after.

The 1989 list. I started these in early May right as school was ending, and now I’ve finished the entire 1980s in August shortly before school is gonna start back up. I'll be publishing two decade end lists in different threads, so stay tuned for that (the second one, which I'm still working on, is one that I'm particularly proud of). But enough stalling, here is the final year of the decade that is so beloved that the biggest songs of last year and this year are both throwbacks to this era Rank | Song | Artist | Peak | Top 10 | Hot 100 | Points | 1 | Miss You Much | Janet Jackson | #1 (4 weeks) | 8 | 18 | 411,070 | 2 | Straight Up | Paula Abdul | #1 (3 weeks) | 7 | 20 | 381,370 | 3 | Right Here Waiting | Richard Marx | #1 (3 Songs 79-82 were the best stretch of the list. I’m glad that Don’t Rush Me made the list, and didn’t get caught between years.

If you want to know just how bad this stretch of time was for pop music, just look at Milli Vanilli very nearly getting all 4 of their singles in the top 20 of this new YE (and would likely achieve that if BIOTR's 1990 weeks had been counted).
Also, 10 more songs have been added to the playlist to represent 1989.

WALK THE DINOSAURRRR
Between that and the massive glow up at #1 I feel a bit less bad about Smooth Criminal missing.
Also what is going on with Bust a move how does a #7 peak get above #3’s with longer runs and more weeks top 10

I knew someone would ask about that. Bust a Move’s posted stats really don’t do justice to the chart run it had, which was very ahead of its time. It may not have peaked high, but it stuck around in the top 40 for longer than any song I can think of at the time. It entered the top 40 in August of 89, and didn’t leave until January of the following year. It’s entire run lasted 39 weeks, with 20 in the top 40. It was an outlier at the time, but a sign of things to come as we entered the 90s.

Also question for the like four or five of you guys who actually look at this thread, when I make the decade end list should I just use the raw points or do a multiplier to balance everything out? The start of the decade was unquestionably stronger with much longer runs but it's not so unbalanced that each year wouldn't get at least a couple songs in the top 100. For the multiplier I was thinking
1960-62 x.9 1968-69 X.95
which seems like it would be pretty good for balance

I like the .9x multiplier for 1960-62, but keep 1963-1969 raw points.

I don’t think the 60s are quite as uneven as the 80s, but still, you want it to be as reflective of the decade as a whole, not just one part of the decade. Otherwise, there’s no point in combining it. Also, this is just my opinion, but an ascending multiplier is usually better for balancing things out than a flat multiplier. The latter means there’s no extra distance between songs, which is what leads to lopsided results like the 90s decade chart having 40 songs from 90 and 91.
