do we see any love for Roddy? I think Roddy should be a lock for BNA, unless he's ineligible because he won a Grammy last year with his Nipsey feature & 2 more nominations (1 of which was a songwriting award).

Correct, he is ineligible. In that case, he's definitely going to be in the rap categories + very likely for ROTY and AOTY, I think. He's got a shot with "The Box" and "ROCKSTAR" so he'll definitely get some love, if not a lotta love.

do we see any love for Roddy? I think the categories for Rap Performance/Song will be between Roddy & Cardi B.
I can definitely see him scoring Album + one of RotY/SoTY, and all the Rap categories. He'll probably win Rap Album.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=323177&title=GRAMMY-CHEW%253A-PLAYING-FAVORITESWednesday, September 16, 2020 GRAMMY CHEW: PLAYING FAVORITESby Lenny Beer and Simon Glickman Who are the “locks” for the top Grammy categories? You say you don’t like “locks?” Fine, let’s say “favorites.” Whatever you call them, half the biz is asking us who we think the definites are for the Big Four; the other half, we imagine, has already made its lists. So here’s our assessment of the field as of mid-September, divided into the three or so we consider favorites (the ones whose absence from the category would be shocking) and those we'd call probables for the rest of the field. We agree that Black Lives Matter and the ongoing conversation about gender will figure prominently in the nominations. The list is not exhaustive and we look forward to eating at least some of our words later. Also: Grammy will do what Grammy wants to do. And with that, we go to the list. ALBUM OF THE YEARFavorites We agree that chart juggernauts The Weeknd, Harry Styles and Lil Baby make the short list. We differ on Taylor Swift; Simon believes the critically adored folklore will have a strongly vocal constituency, whereas Lenny believes the record lacks the heft to make the upper tier. Probables Juice WRLD rates as “highly probable” with his genre-crossing posthumous set; the same can be said for another album from an artist taken at a tragically young age: the star-studded set by the late Pop Smoke. Dua Lipa, Jhené Aiko and the Chicks all made potent, well-received albums and will likely be considered. Lady Gaga is the quintessential “Grammy artist,” and her Chromatica will have plenty of votes. The extremely challenging set by Fiona Apple got major critical love and could well land a nom. RECORD OF THE YEARFavorites The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” and Post Malone’s “Circles” make the cut on the basis of commercial and cultural clout alone. Lil Baby’s “The Bigger Picture” belongs among the faves for crystallizing the political moment in a highly accessible way. Probables Harry Styles’ “Adore You” and DaBaby’s “Rockstar” are practically favorites; Harry might slip here as he’s honored elsewhere. Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” is highly decorated. Doja Cat’s “Say So” was a pop phenomenon. Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” was a monster. Juice WRLD’s Marshmello collab “Come & Go” may be the selection from his album with the broadest appeal. “Roxanne” by Arizona Zervas was the streaming smash that began the TikTok gold rush—look for this one to have a large cheering section. SONG OF THE YEARFavorites The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” Harry Styles’ “Adore You” and Lil Baby’s “The Bigger Picture” loom above the landscape. Probables Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now,” Maren Morris’ “The Bones,” Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope” and JP Saxe’s “If the World Was Ending” have plenty of heat in this songwriter category. Taylor Swift will be strongly considered, but for which song? “cardigan” and “betty” seem the strongest contenders. BEST NEW ARTISTFavorites Summer Walker remains at the front of the pack as she leads a revolution in R&B. Love for the late Pop Smoke in the community pushes him into the front ranks for an unprecedented posthumous BNA nod. Doja Cat’s big hit and vivid, zesty persona signal a true arrival. Probables This year was all about new artists and the noteworthy arrivals are many: genre-busting indie troubadour Phoebe Bridgers; country truth-teller Mickey Guyton; Nashville breakout Morgan Wallen, pop/hip-hop disruptor Megan Thee Stallion; and soulful singer/songwriter JP Saxe, among others.

Holy shit, Dua Lipa is GUNNING for noms this year.
I just got my monthly Billboard mag in the mail, and she’s taken out a whole page ad on the back cover + a flexidisc ‘for your consideration’ single of “Don’t Start Now” / “Future Nostalgia”. Promo is on point, I’m currently freaking out

Promo is on point, I’m currently freaking out Honestly, I even see it as better promo than Gaga having the cover. People always see the back cover, which has some of Dua's best accomplishments and reviews, then a flexidisc (future) vinyl (nostalgia) with 2 of the album's best. I'm impressed! and envious bc I want that flexidisc!

Interesting to see The Weeknd submitted both "In Your Eyes (Remix)" and "Over Now" for Pop Duo/Group Performance. Since neither were chart hits nor critically acclaimed, they are unfortunately unlikely to be nominated (though "boyfriend" somehow got in last year), but hey, worth giving a shot! I adore both songs so much, and while "Blinding Lights" is phenomenal, The Weeknd's other output this era deserves more love.
I'm also surprised to see Ariana submitting the "K bye for now" live album for AOTY and Best Pop Album, Dua not submitting "Physical" for Best Music Video, Cardi only submitting "WAP" for Best Rap Performance and not ROTY, and Post Malone submitting "Goodbyes" for Pop Duo/Group Performance despite its release date (though I know there are rules that allow for such exceptions).

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=323432&title=GRAMMY-CHEW%253A-THE-WOMEN%252C-THE-ALBUMSThursday, October 1, 2020 GRAMMY CHEW: THE WOMEN, THE ALBUMSby Lenny Beer and Simon Glickman The Grammy furor over “step up” seems like a million years ago, and an array of other injustices, social crises and disasters have dominated the headlines since the last time trophies were handed out by maskless celebs under the same roof. Nonetheless, gender parity is still very much top of mind in Grammyland, and it so happens that female acts are due to figure prominently in the Big Four categories this time out. Let’s take a gander at some of the top women artists vying for Album of the Year. THE SUPERSTARSLady Gaga: Chromatica, the latest installment in the Interscope megastar’s fascinating, multi-faceted career, bowed at #1 (with 276k) and yielded a hit in the energizing Ariana Grande duet “Rain on Me.” Given this brilliant pop chameleon/movie star/TV vampire/standards crooner’s capacity to do, well, anything, Grammy is quite eager to have her on the show. Look for an AOTY nod to acknowledge her vision. Taylor Swift: Tay’s latest #1 set, folklore, has enjoyed seven non-consecutive weeks of chart dominion, and marked the Republic idol’s pivot from the glossy pop of the last half-decade to a rootsier, more eclectic set that highlights her considerable gifts as a storyteller. Given the ardor with which both fans and critics responded, the momentum is huge for an AOTY nom. Dua Lipa: 2019’s Best New Artist has more than lived up to the hype with big radio hits (notably “Don’t Start Now”); her widely admired 2020 full-length, Future Nostalgia (Warner), offers a brisk, confident update of disco-diva pop. Dua’s a Grammy darling now and should end up on the shortlist. Megan Thee Stallion: Buoyed by a gigantic single with Beyoncé (“Savage”), this rapper is a bona fide badass and pop-culture supernova—but will Grammy find the ultra-explicit lyrics on her EP Suga out of sync with the moment? Halsey: The Capitol pop explorer’s third album, Manic, would easily have scored a #1 bow early in 2020 but for Eminem’s surprise drop; it was also the first set of the year to be certified platinum. With eclectic hits like “Without Me” and “Graveyard”—and high-profile forays into prose and painting—Halsey continues to prove herself an artist of substance. Camila Cabello: Her “Havana” on the 2019 Grammys was a showstopping throwback to the great Broadway production numbers, and subsequent smash “Senorita” with Shawn Mendes kept her on the radar. The triple nominee’s Romance, released by Epic late last year, could well earn a nom here and provide the platform for another splendid segment on the telecast. Miranda Lambert: Vanner/RCA Nashville star Lambert continues to evolve creatively, and her moving performance of “Bluebird” on the ACMs was a reminder of her potency as a performer. Wildcard, which was edged for ACM Album of the Year by red-hot Luke Combs, looks likely to get a Grammy Country Album nod and could be a contender for AOTY. THE BREAKTHROUGHSSummer Walker: A seeming shoo-in (if there is such a thing) for a Best New Artist nod, this LVRN/Interscope breakout has led a renaissance in R&B, with songs that feel intimately specific and universal all at once. She’s also fared brilliantly in the marketplace. A nom for her album Over It would properly affirm her importance to the musical moment. Jhené Aiko: Another trailblazer in new-school soul, ARTium/Def Jam’s Aiko draws listeners in with a jazzy, meditative vibe—and delivers biting lyrics like “you’re motherfucking right I’m bitter.” Sonic beauty and sharp honesty coexist gracefully on her Chilombo; her moment could be now. Gabby Barrett: The Warner Nashville newcomer’s gloriously vengeful “I Hope” was a monster, but even her admirers wondered if she could prove herself more than one big song. After her ACMs appearance threw a bit more light on her set Goldmine, it appears she might. She’s already got BNA heat; could AOTY also be in the mix? Doja Cat: With one giant hit (“Say So”) and huge pop-cultural impact, RCA’s biggest arrival of the year blends a colorful presence and raw, vivid rhymes. She’s clearly in the mix for BNA; if Grammy decides to anoint her, full-length Hot Pink could sashay into this category too. Phoebe Bridgers: This indie singer/songwriter has been widely touted for BNA, and in her case the buzz derives from her album, Punisher, which brashly blends old-school troubadour values with timely experimentation. If one outsider ends up among the nominees, it could well be Phoebe. WILDCARDSBrittany Howard: The erstwhile Alabama Shakes frontwoman has kissed a lot of babies—and earned four trophies—in Grammyland, setting the table for her highly personal solo debut, Jaime (ATO), to get a good look. Will her expansive, genre-defying set be the outlier nominee in the next AOTY crop? Fiona Apple: 1998’s Best New Artist remains unpredictable and inventive—and on her most recent set, some might say downright perverse. But Apple’s Fetch the Bolt Cutters (Epic) earned swoons from critics itching for adventurous new music. Is it too adventurous?

The Best Pop Vocal Album category is going to be interesting to see to be honest.
• The Weeknd – After Hours • Lady Gaga – Chromatica • Harry Styles – Fine Line • Taylor Swift – folklore • Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia • Post Malone – Hollywood's Bleeding
In no particular order, I can see one of them to be snubbed, unless the committee decides to nominate all of them.

The In Your Eyes vs Over Now situation is most likely a result of two different labels submitting them. Calvin's under Columbia and Weeknd is under Republic, and I'm guessing Columbia submitted Over Now. These are not confirmed submissions and there may be more from the artists mentioned. It doesn't make sense to me that Cardi would only submit WAP for Rap Performance and not ROTY. I don't see k bye for now getting a nomination at all when HOMECOMING failed this year, but props to them for trying.

The Chicks’ only submission was for AOTY? again, these are based on "for your consideration" ads in Billboard. it is entirely possible (and very likely) that they have more submissions, all this tells is that they had an ad that explicitly mentioned AOTY.

I wonder if the HDD article writers realize Fiona Apple was only nominated for BNA, not the winner. Dua Lipa a grammy darling? hmm. Also the Chicks apparently only submitted Sleep at Night for SOTY.

His album doesn't just seem the oldest, it IS the oldest. I'm not sure about campaigning but with the pop albums released during the eligibility period, there is bound to be a snub unless two of these tie (Taylor, The Weeknd, Dua, Gaga, Harry, Post), and give us 6 nominees. I don't see any album getting into Pop Vocal Album outside of those 6. It wouldn't be the first time Post didn't get into Pop Vocal Album (2019), though, but that didn't stop the blue ribbon panel from putting him into Album of the Year.

Maybe his team booked a performance on the BBMAs for this reason...🤔 And yeah, out of the contenders, I can see "Hollywood's Bleeding" most likely getting snubbed for Pop Album, maybe even AOTY (though the Grammys always tend to nominate at least one 'blockbuster' record, and you can't get more blockbuster - in the streaming era, at least, - than five top 10 hits - four reaching the top 3, and all with solid longevity )

Pop is honestly very stacked this year, I'm really hoping Dua can pull through with at least a couple nominations and one win please make it happen

No Time to Die in Song for Visual Media will be an interesting case since it was released during eligibility but the film it's attached for moved to 2021. Will it still qualify? Oscars for sure won't because the movie won't be released in the eligibility period but will Grammy have the same rule or make an exception? If they don't deem it eligible, will it be next year even if it was released the year prior?

No Time to Die in Song for Visual Media will be an interesting case since it was released during eligibility but the film it's attached for moved to 2021. Will it still qualify? Oscars for sure won't because the movie won't be released in the eligibility period but will Grammy have the same rule or make an exception? If they don't deem it eligible, will it be next year even if it was released the year prior? I’m 99% certain the release date of the associated movie won’t come into play here, since it’s an award for the song itself and we all know what a Bond theme is at this point. It’s not like it’s attached to, like, a streaming series from an indie studio whose production is on pause due to covid and might never come out.

I'm sure the movie release date doesn't matter (and the Grammy rule book doesn't mention it), however I'd think voters would gravitate towards a movie that's been released. (So a Sept/Oct/Nov release shouldn't hurt.)

GRAMMY deadline was Sept. 30, 2018. "Shallow" won a GRAMMY during the 2018 eligibility period. ASIB (movie and soundtrack both) came out on October 5, 2018, so the following year's eligibility period. Songs from ASIB and the Soundtrack got nominations and wins at this year's ceremony, or during 2019 eligibility period. TL;DR— it doesn't matter if the movie comes out after eligibility period. So I'd expect "no time to die" to get its accolades this upcoming award season.
