I'm honestly really surprised they haven't given up on this yet. The way this is failing to connect is pretty catastrophic for her momentum. Thankfully "The Bones" is such a massive hit that it is still having great recurrent play and was of course a big crossover hit, so it's definitely propping her/the album up for awhile, but she needs a new single to start working its way to hit status here soon and "To Hell & Back" is clearly not that song. I know this single is pretty much finished, but damn I love these lyrics! Guess you don't always need to make an amazing deep cut a single. Wonder if she'll get prepped for another album after this is through. It’s a real shame this didn’t place very high on the charts. I feel like female songs are definitely overlooked these days.

I wonder if it's death has been exaggerated. It seems to have picked up a little steam recently (relatively speaking).

I hope it can turn it around, this is my favorite song off "girl". Maybe radio is realizeing they wont change the single, so let's just play this.

Even if it picks up and ends up finishing in the top 20/30, this has been such a bomb for Maren. It's too bad that they didn't send out a more radio-friendly song to cash in on the momentum created by "The Bones".

This should have been pulled a long time ago. What is the label thinking they are going to get out of this? At this point the damage is already done so they should probably stick with this until the wheels fall off. Give this a top 20 peak or whatever and move on from the Girl era, because I don’t see anything else from the album becoming huge now.
I really can’t blame them for releasing this in the first place though. "The Bones" was so undeniably huge that they probably thought they could get away with releasing anything so why not release the best song on the album? This is just a depressing scenario though. I’m sure she’ll recover though.

Fell all the way to #49 on Billboard this week. Top 40 on BB suddenly feels so far away again.

Fell all the way to #49 on Billboard this week. Top 40 on BB suddenly feels so far away again. Honestly, Maren and her label are being ridiculous. It has been clear as day ever since its release that it was bombing and should’ve been pulled/replaced. Rich, I Could Use A Love Song, 80s Mercedes, and My Church were all inside the Top 30 at Week 21 of their respective chart run. Meanwhile, this is barely inside the Top 50 at #49 at Week 21. However, the gains on Mediabase have been better than usual this past few days so I guess that’s somewhat good news. I’m still not sure why Maren & her label are hellbent on sticking this one out. Surely they must be seeing how this is clearly ruining her momentum. It’s an unfortunate situation all-around.

With them still pushing this it almost all but confirms this is the last single on this album. Releasing “We should be friends” will kill “all night”. They will probably push this as much as they can then have a new single ready in November/January. She definitely needs something fun and upbeat.

Her record label knows this song is a dud. The best song on this album that should be a hit is “All my favorite people do”, but if her record label releases that right now as a single then Brothers Osborne current single “All Night” will get less airplay therefore hurting their single 2 months from when their new album will be out. The best thing to do is move on from the Girl album and have a new single ready to go by 2021.

The Brothers Osborne song is fine, their performance on whatever awards show a few years ago was boring. A Song for Everything is much better though.

This has done so much worse than any of us thought, even those of us that hated the single choice. I thought her name alone would get it to the teens, but now I don't see how it even gets to the Top 40 on BB. It's time to let it go.

9 new adds this week, looks like their sticking with this single. It has now 103 total adds on media base, hopefully her team can start making some traction soon.

Yeah, I agree that they are just going to ride it out as long as they can, and she will release new music at the start of the year.

To Hell & Back is finally Top 40 on both Mediabase and Billboard. Only took them 25 weeks. :kii:
The way I look at it right now, if they do hold on until the end of the year, then a Top 30 peak might be possible on both charts. There's no way this is going any further unless something drastic/unexpected happens.

That's a good excuse for this song struggling early on but it's been six months into this songs chart run and it is just now Top 40. At this point is more the song itself that was released for why it is flopping than "The Bones" getting a solid amount of recurrent play.

Honestly, 25 weeks to reach the top 40 is not that terrible for 2020 country radio. Yes, I’m aware this is moving at a glacial pace compared to all her other singles and really isn’t moving the needle all that much, but we’re currently seeing 65+ week runs on the charts which is absolute insanity. It would have made sense to pull this from radio a couple months ago when it looked completely doomed, but I really think they should just keep on pushing now that it’s making some movement.
If they can keep working this until early to mid spring of next year to a respectable top 20 or top 10 peak, they can end the era on a good note and start prepping for her third album era.

If they can keep working this until early spring of next year to a respectable top 20 or top 10 peak, they can end the era on a good note and start prepping for her third album era. But the thing is that these 65+ week chart runs go to artists like Travis Denning, Scotty McCreery, Chase Rice, Maddie & Tae, LoCash, etc. All artists that aren't really even close to A-lister status so the label has more incentive to have these long chart runs as they don't know when the next time they will be in the Top 30 with a new single. Like I can't see "To Hell & Back" lasting til April of next year, as I have to believe either A. Maren Morris will have new music availabile or B. Country radio would have let this go by then There's a reason why Chase Rice spends 64 weeks on the chart and Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert spends 30+ weeks at most. Maren Morris is the type of artist where she is borderline if not already kind of an A-lister given how well known she is and if the label had new music ready to go for a new project with the right single they could get into the Top 30 pretty easily instead of promoting this (see new single from Chris Stapleton doing really well and already nearing Top 20 in 4 weeks or singles from Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts doing pretty well right now). I get where you're coming from but I respectfully disagree.

It’s a combo of things, Ray. Maren is not quite A List yet. And it’s a third single from an album and also has the word “hell” in the title so there’s that issue too. To say nothing of her female gender. Add all that up and radio’s tight playlists and it’s no surprise the song is slow on the charts.

Ray all your points hold a lot of weight. Honestly, I think at this point we’ve kinda got to stop using other artists previous songs as a strict reference point. I feel like every couple of weeks a record is broken for amount of adds, longest chart run to the top etc as well their being a good amount of unexpected flops or hits every year so who knows. Realistically ANY song and flop or be a hit (obviously there are a million factors) but my point is every artist and song as their own unique rise. Yes, there’s definitely behaviors and qualities that you can attribute to an ‘a-lister’ but essentially we really don’t know what’s going to happen to a song when it’s released. Like this may or may not be a hit but we’ve got to stop assuming because they are an a lister and their song isn’t rising up super fast, it’s a flop. It’s rising slower for Maren Morris but not unheard of it is was another artist. The song has almost 20 million streams only on spotify and got a boost on iTunes. Not amazing numbers but theirs been prior number ones on worse trajectories. Y’all also gotta take into account, long chart runs to the top usually mean high streams and more sales especially if the song is doing decently in that area (eg chris lane, Russell Dickerson). Just my 2 cents.

It might be as simple as it’s just another slow song as a single from her. This is the 4th slow song in a row from her.

I thought “I could use a love song” was the 4th single from her first album.

Up to #32 on Billboard. Took a while to get going but I’m so glad to see this having nice gains lately. I’m now confident this will at least make the top 20. :)
