Before You Go is also WAY below ROM on Spotify... Well he's a male artist and sings ballads. We need to stop thinking that Spotify audience=pop audience. Just because a song is higher on Spotify doesnโt mean that it should be having more success on radio.

If radio is gonna dump songs that don't make it to streaming before they can grow like they have done multiple times this last year, then yes, ROM should be having more success than BYG because it has the lead on every single platform except for Shazam.

More importantly, I just feel like this has way more buzz than the Lewis song, which is straight up radio filler. But of course "hype" is something one feels and perceives depending on the people you follow, so I might just follow way too many gay guys lol.

This song stands out more than that one too, which can work for or against a song. I heard Before You Go on the radio yesterday and I didn't even realize it was that song yet I'd probably been hearing it for weeks or months. I recognized it as something I'd heard but I didn't clue into what it was - so that's probably the definition of radio filler. (I also heard Sunday Best too and clued in to what that was. I didn't hate that one whereas Lewis' song was a big bag of nothing. I don't even remember it now).

A big bag of nothing is a good description of Lewis' entire album imo. I understand the appeal, but his music output so far is just not my cup of tea.

Whoโs behind the rain queens right now on the CHR chart? No strong competition on their rear end?

I'd be surprised if this goes much further. I (obviously) want it to, but I don't think the recent AI updates are a good sign. Pop radio in general just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me these days. I don't have an issue with "Before You Go," though. I'd rather listen to that one than the majority of the Top 10 at this point.
At least my country is giving "Rain on Me" the love and success it deserves. #2 on CHR (Canada) this week. As with almost everything, our neighbors to the south are doing it wrong.

Pop radio sure loves dem white boy ballads and white boy rap songs
Tragic but not surprising if this doesn't go much further due to just that

Will be interesting to see how pop radio treats the new Rihanna and Adele singles when they're due.

Why would they shelve a new Rihanna single?
She's a streaming artist.

Why would they shelve a new Rihanna single? She's a streaming artist. Her last pop radio #1 was "Stay" in 2013. "The Monster" if you count her features, also in 2013. So I understand the doubts. But considering the small amount of music she released since then (1 album in 2016), she found decent success, including several top ten hits like "FourFiveSeconds," "Work," "Wild Thoughts," and "Love on the Brain." And this year, pop radio took "Believe It" by PND to top 40 basically because of her, so I'm sure they will have interest in her music, whenever it arrives.

RIhanna doesn't need pop radio though. If her label ever gets her to finish a song, it will be a monster on streaming and urban/rhythmic which will be enough to carry her to the top. Similar to ANTI which didn't actually have any #1 pop radio hits and it didn't matter.

Rihanna doesn't need Pop radio because she's an established act. It's still an important marketing tool for newer acts. There's no way Dua Lipa gets a "Don't Start Now" without radio for example.
Lady Gaga hasn't needed radio for this or "Shallow" but one can argue that it wouldn't have hurt her either. Especially with SL or "The Cure".

I just donโt understand it. This should be skyrocketing up the pop charts. At least top five. We have two of the biggest pop stars ( Gaga a legend) belting out an infectious tune with an eye popping video and this seems to be stalling. Hopefully it gets a deserved second wind.

How is streaming?

To be fair the superstar pairing alone can only go so far on radio (see also "Stuck with U"). But imo this is much better. And they didn't hesitate this much with "I Don't Care".

Anyone remember where "Beautiful Liar" peaked on pop radio? It's the only song I can think of that has a similar pairing with similar hype and similar Hot 100 chart run.
