Wow! I lost hope after seeing all the hip-hop songs tanked these past few days, but for me to see Regulate make the Top 20, you don't know how happy I am. Thank you for who ever gave this song a high ranking. You know, I'd be really happy if this song makes it to the Top 10.

Iβm mostly fine with this top 20. Not a big fan of these Madonna songs though.

hoping Janet, Lisa & Salt donβt make it much further, but Iβm fine with the rest I suppose (although The Sign isnβt top 10 worthy)
the really sad thing was seeing both Sheryl & Bruce fall just short of the Top 20

The Beck, Haddaway and Aaliyah songs are my least favourites of the bunch. Other than that, solid list!

I expected "Always" and "What's My Name" to go out this set. I kind of expected "Fantastic Voyage" to go out, too, though I had hoped that the love for "Gangsta's Paradise" would see it through to the top 20.
It must be said, though, that "Gin and Juice" missing the top 20 25 is absolutely ridiculous.

I wasn't expecting both Madonna songs to be liked enough to contend for the Top 20, over the damn Dogg.
I like Madonna as much as the rest of the people on here but I was never happy about the rather boring approach she took in the mid-'90s. "Vogue" is pretty much the only great song she released during the '90s in general.

Clearly you haven't heard Power of Goodbye/Frozen I was born in 1999 and I know next to nothing about a lot of music from 1998 so I can't really judge those two songs. If they both sound anything like I'll Remember or This Used to Be My Playground or Take a Bow, chances are I won't be a fan of them but I may give them both a listen out of curiosity. ......also, speaking of 1998 Madonna, I just remembered "Ray of Light" and that song's pretty good as well.

If these lists were sentient beings they would cross the street when they see a black man on their side of the sidewalk Actually the way I saw it in this RD is everyone running away from a long haired guy ,and his guitar.

#30. Any Time, Any Place - Janet JacksonProbably one of the Janet Jackson songs that did the least for me. Sounded a bit too mature for my Pop groove. #29. Return To Innocence - EnigmaLooks like I made another mistake. > ![:d](http://images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif) No way this was supposed to be my #99. WTF was I thinking? 8D I must have been high on something when I ranked my bottom ten because.......this song was supposed to be my #100. Sorry Brandy. #28. Always - ErasureThis is a strikingly beautiful Synthpop ballad. It falls right into The realm of "Human" by Human League. Seriously. This song comes on and I'm guessing this what Adam and Eve must have heard during their short stay in Eden. I'm totally heartbroken and astonished this didn't make top 10. #26. Hero - Mariah CareyI thought this would have more #1's? One of the few mature vibe pop ballads that sound really good to me. #26. Gin and Juice - Snoop Doggy DoggThis didn't have any cool retro melody that I have heard in another song. It was just that usual dark rap melody you hear in the movie 'Colors'. Not exactly scary, but the music isn't pleasant to my ears so I didn't like it one bit. I do like the one with the dogs. That one is fun. #25. Anytime You Need A Friend - Mariah CareyAfter a while these pop ballads kind of all blend in together. I still like it enough for a thumbs up. #24. Fantastic Voyage - CoolioI have never cared for anything from Coolio . Especially that song from that movie with Michelle Pfeiffer. Truthfully the rapping on this song just blends away into the background, as I really don't concentrate on that aspect, but the groove of the song is bopping hard. The music video is o.k. You got some hootchies ,and other goodies dancing around. Works for me. #23. Who Am I? (What's My Name?) - Snoop Doggy DoggSo my two favorite rap jams show up side by side , but still miss the top 20. Can't say I didn't try. This is like his theme song right? Nice backups and all. There are still some questionable gangsta lingo I cannot get behind on, but it's a smooth groove to boost. #22. All I Wanna Do - Sheryl CrowThis rank seems really low for this song. ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) It's like The Bangles grew up and became A one woman band. I pretty much liked most of Sheryl's songs in the 90's. Cute down to earth girl with a guitar and singing a catchy little diddy. What's there not to love? #21. Streets Of Philadelphia - Bruce SpringsteenI never cared for this song nor any of his songs that sound like this. They bore right into searching for songs from 'Born In The U.S.A.' 'nuff said.

30. Any Time, Any Place (76): YES! Another song I didn't care much for. I found it more boring than sexy. I know she was going for the latter, but it didn't work for me. Definitely loved & On & On much more. 29. Return To Innocence (16): Pleasantly surprised this made the top 30, but I'm of course very happy about it. This was their second hit in my personal chart after Sadeness and the first one to reach the top. I loved the unique instrumental, vibe, of this song, including the middle-Eastern influences. The melody and vocals are also spot on. I ended up buying the cassette and playing it quite often. I really liked this stuff. 28. Always (21): Another personal chart-topper from Erasure. I really liked the lush instrumental and dynamic production, including the increasing intensity from the subdued verses to the more explosive chorus and the multiple vocal layers. Also, the chorus melody is unique and the vocals are strong as they can be. Great to see it this high. Also, the Microbots Trance Dance Mix received some airplay -and I liked it quite a bit, too 27. Gin and Juice (82): This was a first-time listen. What can I say? I didn't find it memorable, or catchy enough to escape my bottom 20 --and I actually didn't like the main chorus melody. 26. Hero (4): This was her second hit back home, following the success of I'll Be There. In this case, she received an extra support of Spanish-only radio stations which played Hero's Spanish version "Heroe", introduced as by MarΓa Carey (as in "kuh-ray" ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) ). Hero was her second song to reach the top of my personal chart, and it's one of my favorite ballads from her. Her vocals are divine, the instrumental is timeless, and the lyrics have been quite helpful in tough times. 25. Anytime You Need A Friend (55): This was her first single I didn't like. I hated her screamy, mad vocals in the last minute or so, and I wasn't a fan of the main melody in the chorus. My #55 ranking is based on my appreciation of the C&C remix version, that significantly elevates the song to me. 24. Fantastic Voyage (62): I like the groove, and the sampling works very well, as does the rap flow, but the vocals in the verses take it down a few notches. 23. Who Am I? (What's My Name?) (64): Now, this was a nice discovery. I like it much more than G&J. Nice flow and groove, and strong chorus melody. As I said before, this was a tough zone in my RD where songs were very close to each other, so maybe just a bit more familiarity could've helped me rank it higher. Still, Keep Ya Head Up and Bop Gun were much more instant first-listens to me. 22. All I Wanna Do (6): Not another top 10 loss :( I loved this song since I first heard in '94. The dance country pop vibe was unique, fun, and fresh. The melody and vocals were strong as well. This made the top of my personal chart and my yearend top 20. 21. Streets Of Philadelphia (12): I liked the song when I first heard it. The dark, sad, nostalgic vibe, with the strong lyrics, Bruce's emotional vocals, and the string/percussion combo were a solid combination. Then I loved it when I heard it in the context of the movie. Quite powerful moment that made me teary eyed. This was Bruce's last song to reach the top of my personal chart.

Done for the day, revealing the start of the Top 20 tomorrow!
Top 20 (in alphabetical order)
100% Pure Love - Crystal Waters All That She Wants - Ace of Base Another Night - Real McCoy Back & Forth - Aaliyah Because Of Love - Janet Jackson Because The Night - 10,000 Maniacs Breathe Again - Toni Braxton Donβt Turn Around - Ace of Base Found Out About You - Gin Blossoms Iβll Remember - Madonna Linger - The Cranberries Loser - Beck Mary Janeβs Last Dance - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Regulate - Warren G ft. The greatest of the greats! Donβt Turn Around has the distinction of being the first number one on the first Caseyβs Top 40 I listened to in full back in July 1994 - that show was the source of my first mixtape so itβs kind of sentimental for me. π

Ranking Aaliyah Back and Forth in bottom half should be punished with something... some kind auditive torture or something like that. Besides that, the right songs are leaving before the Top 10.
