These last two songs had a good run, and I'm perfectly satisfied with where they landed. I won't complain if "Secret" wins, but I would definitely prefer one of the other two. In all honesty, though, I'm expecting "Regulate" to be #3.

The Top 2
This Top 2 is a close one.
Gotta say that I'm extremely happy with how this turned out. Going in I expected to see Madonna, The Cranberries, Ace Of Base and Beck make the Top 10 but I was a little surprised to see Haddaway sneak in again.
As always thank you all for participating (and following along if you didn't). It's always nice to read what ya'll have to say as the rankdown progresses.
Moving along to the Billboard 1995 Rankdown next...but I gotta be honest, it's gonna be some time before I get to it cause I'm taking a break from this s**t for a while. lol. I need a recharge for what is one of my favorite years in music. Ever. It will for sure happen before the year is over, though. More to come...
Thank you all for coming along this journey with me and big thanks to rowellfarm490 for those awesome stats!

Wait...they got the same number of points, and "Linger" has 5 #1s while Secret has 3 #1s? Shouldn't that make Linger the winner?

That's the second time I had a bunch of my top ten in the actual top ten, but the winner wasn't one of them. Oh well. "Secret" was still a very good discovery. I'm looking forward to the 1995 rankdown, and I hope something in my top ten will win that one. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif)

I totally didn't realize the top 2 remaining were both in my top 10 so that's a win for me I guess. I love Secret, one of my favourite Madonna songs (even if I love I Remember more) but I also love Linger, and any opportunity at a win for the Cranberries in one of these I consider a win too. To me, Loser is the odd one out of a fairly strong top 10. I was pleasantly surprised to see Another Night make the top 10 too.
Thanks for hosting! I'm so in for 1995!

"Regulate" performing that well gives me hope for its finals performance. The only disappointment I have about "Linger" is that I wish we could have had "Dreams", too. "Secret" is Madonna's best mid-90's song, so I don't really have any complaints about it winning. another Madonna win yawn Secret is in the 1995 year-end too, hopefully it doesn't just repeat on topThere are some heavy hitters in 1995. I doubt it will.

I might have overranked a few of this dancy jobs, but they were the best dance pop had to offer. #10. Mary Janeβs Last Dance - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Seriously what else could be my #1 song on this list.and I did like it better than Meatloaf and Aerosmith jams so it all worked out. This is easily one of Tom's best songs ever. The build up in the intro is perfect for it's bluesy rock style. You might think he is singing about a Kim Bassinger corpse called "Mary Jane", but he is really singing about quitting weed. Funny how a song about quitting weed actually makes you wanna light up a roach while listening to it. That's epic. #9. 1 00% Pure Love - Crystal WatersThis is exactly that housey stuff I didn't groove to. For me House music just sounded all alike with similar sounding vocalists and that makes up for a boring combo. #8. What Is Love - HaddawayI don't go back to this song too much these days, but it's the best of these dance jobs that pop had to offer. It's still way tooooooooo slow for me ,and I also prefer female vocals for dance, but this guy had some pretty good range. He had another song that I ended up liking even more titled "Life". #7. Another Night - Real McCoyprobably one of my favorites from this stable of wanna be Hi-NRG Italo dance songs. I think the male vocals gave a more melodic rap than others, and the synth was really tappping into Freestyle melodies much more than Hi-NRG. I could hear a little of Company B's "Fascinated" and that's probably a big factor in me liking this one a lot more than others with this same vibe. #6. Whatta Man - Salt-N-Pepa w/En VogueThis song is alright for that R&B shoop style. I like the guitars. The lyrics do nothing for me, but the ladies like it. Well here it is. You guys really love it I guess. #5. Loser - BeckI never liked this song on Alt format, and it sounded even worse on Pop format. Doesn't inspire sing a long action either. 'nuff said. #4. The Sign - Ace Of BaseI like this song mainly for it's vocals but also the flute effix or whatever they used to get that flute sound. This is easily their best of the discography. They were like a 90's ABBA with really crappy percussion effix , but still manged to entice me with their songs. #3. Regulate - Warren G & Nate DoggRap going melodic really changed my view about the genre. I still couldn't care less about what's going on lyrically in these songs, but borrowing a bit of Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting" has it's perks. Especially if you are an 80's music freak. It also really added a smooth background panorama to these guy's vocal tones. #2. Linger - The CranberriesWell it's not "Zombie" nor "Salvation" nor even "Dreams", but has A nice aesthetic feel to it. It's still my least favorite from their big hits. Can't deny a pleasant listen a high rank tho. #1. Secret - Madonnabefore Madonna went all dancetronic on me I still really enjoyed her songs. This one isn't "Like A Virgin" nor anything that stellar,, but her vocals sounded really good , and they really added depth to the simple style of the song. The music is decent , but's its her vocals that got me to chart this one. Very catchy and maybe a bit too long for a pop song, but still a smooth listen. i figured one of my top 30 songs would win anyway so high five.. Unhinged Great Job. i like the little tid bits information on each song and its always great to see the song's statistics . The cover art goes without saying. Especially for the album art freaks. So Have you ever thought of adding a few extras that just missed top 100? just wondering?

i agree with Red - why wasn't "Dreams" as big of a hit (or bigger) than "Linger"? doesn't make sense as i much prefer "Dreams" - it would've been my #1 for this rankdown ... "Secret" is a good song & am fine with it winning...thanks for hosting Unhinged - great job as always!

10. Mary Janeβs Last Dance (47): Not in my top 5 TP songs, but it did make my personal top 10. I just wasn't a big fan of the verses, even though I liked the instrumental and chorus. Thought there were stronger rock-pop songs in this list... 9. 100% Pure Love (32): A personal top 5, my favorite Crystal Waters song, and one of my favorite 90s dance songs, too, as it had a more unique sound to it, compared with other songs that were popular at the time. It was a minor hit back home, too. This is in the 30-20s zone where I like all songs almost the same. 8. What Is Love (9): Great to see it reaching the top 10 again. It was also a big hit back home. I also put it in the top 10 for the 1993 RD, as it is one of my favorite dance songs of the decade, that reached the top of my personal chart and my yearend top 25. It's always had a sort of 80s vibe to me, and his strong vocals remind me a bit of the guy singing with Santana in songs like Hold On. 7. Another Night (13): Good to see 3 dance songs in the top 10! Another song that reached the top of my personal chart and yearend top 25, even when it was not that big of a hit back home. I love the 'galactic' synth sound here (ala More and More, or What Is Love), the catchy melody especially in the chorus and pre-chorus, and Karin Kasar's vocals. The dude is ok for the role he plays as the guy in her dreams ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) Interestingly, one of the inspirations behind this song was an 80s tune 6. Whatta Man (56): I like several songs by both groups, but his is not my favorite by either at all. I like My Lovin', Don't Let Go, Givin' Him..., Free Your Mind, Let's Talk About Sex, Push It, You Show Me, much more than this one. This is just ok to me. 5. Loser (27): A personal top 10 that sounded unique and cool and still does. I do like it quite a bit, and I don't mind seeing it in the top 10 at all. Beck is great anyway. 4. The Sign (1): This was love at first listen, and the tune that made me buy the album. After reaching the top of my personal chart for one week with ATSH and two weeks with HN, this stayed atop for 3 weeks, and made my yearend top 3. I love the slick production, the multiple hooks and melodies, the rich percussions in the bridge, the harmonies. It's just a super catchy, perfect pop gem that still sounds pretty good. It was one of the biggest hits back home, and even led to the -minor- popularity of a flamenco/Latin cover that would be played in Spanish radios. 3. Regulate (33): Very nice sampling of Michael McDonald's song. Catchy tune with cool melodic vocals, too. I could've ranked it in my 20s, as I do appreciate it quite a bit. 2. Linger (34): This was their first song played in our rock and AC stations. I really liked its unique instrumental and vocals, with an almost new age vibe. It made my personal top 5, and I still consider it one of my top 10 Cranberries songs --just not top 5. I would've ranked Dreams in my top 10 of this list ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) Great to see it in the top 10, though, as I see it as an underdog alongside Loser. Just like 100% and Regulate, I could've ranked it a bit higher, as I like all these 30-20s songs quite a bit. 1. Secret (11): YES!! Great to see another strong Madonna song making the #1 song in a RD!! This was another song that reached the top of my personal chart, and made my yearend top 30. I ranked it at #21 in the recent Madonna singles RD, as it's my second favorite pre-Ray of Light 90s songs by her -only surpassed by You'll See. This was a hit back home in pop stations. Even the remix received some airplay. I remember hearing the first snippets, and being surprised at the much more acoustic vibe. It was a great way to switch things up, and her vocals were pretty strong, too, especially her using her warmer lower register. Thanks, Unhinged for another great rank down!!!
