I don't think diversity is the issue on radio when it sounds like a very generic dance track. Unless you're already a dan you probably couldn't tell if these guys are from another country.
It's not the genre of song that is smashing right now. It already went much further than any other BTS track.

yeah I fully believe xenophobia and the close-mindedness of the gp is the reason why k-pop hasn't began dominating much sooner. with "Dynamite" and "Ice Cream," both groups left the "Korean" at home and made generic pop songs. so while I still think the radio programming resistance (especially when you think back to songs like "Boy with Luv") had a lot to do with those issues, the callout scores are a testament that the public doesn't want whatever this song has to offer.
for me, "Dynamite" sounds too forced, like they studied Adam Levine's performance on "Sugar" to recreate that. And I like their music much more when I don't understand what they're saying.

I would never understand why this charted higher than Miley or Taylor. Now get your way out of the chart and die.

Honestly, I’m surprised this isn’t doing better in call outs and surprised it hadn’t reached the top ten weeks ago. It’s not exactly the ‘in’ sound but neither was Wannabe, Quit Playing Games With My Heart or Livin’ La Vida Loca when they came out and dominated (particularly Ricky) and helped kickstart new eras in pop music. I saw this song as one of those and expected it to do similarly well. I suppose back in the 90s, there wasn’t as much of a disconnect between radio and general music fans - or maybe there wasn’t callout back then and those songs were just forced on listeners? I didn’t care for either of them much but accepted they were the next big thing. I’d say this song’s use in ads is its worst quality because it’s so hard to ignore and those ads play SO much - and I don’t even watch tv often.

I’m enjoying the bad callouts because it’s fun watching some of the annoying ass Twitter stans freak out.
However, I would rather this hang on for Top 10. It would be BS if it was dropped now. They brought “Supalonely” up to #7 and it had shit callouts, too.

Why can't it just be people don't like a lot of K Pop stuff that's coming out now. Why does it have to be xenophobia. Maybe American teen girls are jamming to Shawn Mendes, Why Don't We etc for their crushes. I have no problem with K Pop but honestly it's not that good sometimes. A lot of times it sounds like outdated pop. Half the time it sounds like a Kids Bop track with a strange rap and a very spastic aggressive beat. I own a few songs from Monsta X and BTS but Blackpink is NOT for me. Perhaps K Pop isn't for everyone. Not everything has to be a phobia or something. I'm not saying this to be mean. I don't mind BTS. They work hard and have a few good songs I like and purchased but I never thought "WoW these songs need to Smash".

Utada, BOA, Wonder Girls, Se7en, CL, 2NE1... It could be the material, but in the same breath, they also used the US producers so that could be saying something as well. I don't know. I'm just here for more diversity.

I meant in general. It's a great chance obviously. I'm just hoping the material isn't all similar to "Dynamite", which clearly got a bad reception at radio..

I have a feeling there is a strong correlation between liking "Dynamite" and being a high-minded global citizen.

Isn't reaching num.11 at radio and getting endless promo a chance??? I meant in general. It's a great chance obviously. Plus their a pop boyband. That's not that big right now. I remember back in the day it took a little push for NSync/Backstreet Boys etc to get radio on board. That may be the situation here and not a phobia about other cultures. I don't expect all Korean people to start wanting to jam out to American pop groups either.... I may sound defensive and I don't really mean to be but everything is so PC now and sometimes it's just not that and people just don't like the music. It may not be because their race...

No you're fine we are just having a discussion about the radios reception(which thank goodness the stans go crazy with the sales and whatnot lol) fearlessarrow what's your take?

No you're fine we are just having a discussion about the radios reception(which thank goodness the stans go crazy with the sales and whatnot lol) fearlessarrow what's your take? I feel like there's truth to both sides. We obviously can't tell to what extent xenophobia is affecting this song's performance (Is it the K-pop label? Is it that people don't like BTS in general? Is it their pronunciation?) but I don't think it's out of the question to think there's some effect on a more personal level (instead of radio programmers not pushing the song because they're about to take it top 10). However, BTS' chart performance on the Hot 100 has very much been driven by their very passionate fanbase and I just don't think it might be translating as well to their popularity among people who aren't as familiar with BTS or the K-pop scene, and ultimately that might be playing into the poor callouts. I guess in a way the Hot 100 performance of "Dynamite" actually might be misleading on how the song is being perceived by the wider audience.

K-Pop will never be that huge in the US, aside from Gangnam Style no K-Pop song/artist has taken the public hold. BTS is huge with stans but not with the GP, and it's likely the wide language gap. Spanish songs can become pop hits because the Spanish speaking population in this country is huge, it just makes sense. Not a lot of overlap with a Korean speaking audience.
This song is English yes, but the accents are thick and there's lots of autotune and the track is a bit too upbeat. Dynamite reminds me of Taylor Swift's ME!, another song that debuted with horrible call-out scores.
Idk, I just feel like it's never gonna happen. BTS remains huge worldwide and for local stans, but they'll never get a huge radio hit or be an artist everyone in the country knows.

I feel the fans should just be proud it’s gotten as high as it did on pop radio. This song isn’t what’s smashing on pop radio these days, and 11 makes it the second biggest Korean song ever on here up there with Gangnam style, not bad company at all to be around. Also this song cleared 1 million sales and is the only one to even come close to that number in 2020. I think this might be the limit of what a song by a Korean band can do in America unless drastic changes are made but these highs are nothing to be ashamed of.

Eh... the song is in english, I don't think the general public even knows who BTS are well enough to even know they're Korean. This isn't the kind of song 5SOS or 1D would release either. It's much poppier and autotune heavy (and also 1D didn't have a ton of success on radio). Yeah and 5SOS has had a pretty mediocre radio presence, they only have one hit and that was a couple years ago. Idk what this person is on about. 5sos only had 1 smash being Youngblood, but they did have a few other top 20s including easier which hit 11 and spent 20 weeks on the chart

that call out is really bad and quite shocking considering this is very generic safe sounding song and in English.
there's nothing xenophobia about this performance or their recent chart performance. they get huge push from Columbia and Radio support them, more than Beyonce could get recently. lol like.. Boy with luv which is in Korean, got into top20 pop radio. that is huge thing when it didn't have much going on outside fan base. and the media, celebrities, industry people and pop fans in general have been very supportive because of their fans, also them being Asians. ironically it helped them. (this is one thing their fan are not ready for discussion.)
anyway, they don't need radio. they never did and never will. they're pop boyband from different country in different style and language.

tomorrow this should surpass "Gangnam Style"s #10-peak and become the highest charting k-pop song on pop radio, right? is there a higher-charting one I'm missing?

This is probably still my worst song of the year so far, bland, awful autotune and the stans definitely don't help.
