NOOOOOOO! Not Runaway June! </3
"Head Over Heels" is one of the most instant, catchy, fun radio songs of the past year or so. That hook is so fucking CLEVER! The first time I heard it, I was gobsmacked that line. The whole thing is such an ANTHEM and I love it. I'm still devastated it wasn't a smash hit for them because it really felt like it had all the makings of one.

Pretty surprised no one has highlighted Hurtin On The Bottle for Margo Price in rankdowns yet (or has it?) Four Years of Chances definitely sounds like an odd one (if not the odd one) in this rankdown, but the solo in this song is truly fun. When choosing a song for Margo in this series I had both of those in mind actually. I don't think "Hurtin' (On the Bottle)" has been featured in any country rankdown as of yet and I was actually a bit surprised you didn't choose that one in your personal rankdown of indie songs from last year (might be time for a second one!). The only reason I opted not to go with that one is because it was one of the more well-known songs from her debut record. Either way, I think any song I selected for her would've been on the polarizing side as I've never taken her to be a big favorite amongst those within the Pulse country community and especially with those who regularly participate in country rankdowns.

Ruthie Collins has a good voice but the lyrics of Get Drunk and Cry are so trivial. A Woman Needs is a solid upbeat tune. Lonely The Night is still my most favorite Yola song. Most of her other songs, including Ride Out in the Country, I just don't feel as much as that song. Tenille Arts feel like a breakout star but the vocal arrangement in chorus of Somebody Like That is just bad. Too many same notes stuck together. Didn't think Bad Girl Phase will be that low because Sunny Sweeney is one of more liked artists in Pulse. Maybe it sounds too rowdy? But she has the swagger for it. Northern Girl is another solid upbeat tune. I'm somewhat underwhelmed by the melody of The Age Of Miracles tbh. However the hopeful message is ever relevant. Not really like the chorus of Tell Me Something I Don’t Know either. It seems unnecessary long-winded. I have heard The Highway a few weeks ago and while Drinkin' does not sound like a standout to me, the outro is traditional country sound done right. Head Over Heels is cute.

I was thinking 'that song's gonna be highlighted anyway' and then it hasn't happened yet. Also the personal rankdown will have a Part II for sure! I think I have heard enough artists and albums to pick 40 songs from. I may need to refresh my memory for some of the artists chosen though.

I didn't know "Get Drunk and Cry" and I didn't like it at all, glad my last place didn't last much longer...
"Somebody Like That" out already??? Whaaat. I didn't see that one coming. I wouldn't even predict my #7 would be the highest ranking (tied). Great song imo. I wish it would at least sneak into the top30 but that's okay.
I thought "The Age of Miracles" would be gone sooner as well. Also happy to see "Drinkin'" gone, and now I believe all of my bottom 5's are out. Sorry about my low rankings for those two, Tim!
"Head Over Heels" is not the best Runaway June but it deserved better!
Don't really have a strong opinion about the others, I'm okay with them leaving.

I'm going to pause the reveals for today and will likely resume with them tomorrow! Instead, I wanted to showcase the first set of honorable mentions which will highlight other female artists and songs of the 2010s. This first honorable mentions go out to fellow Texan country artists Katie Armiger and Kristen Kelly, Ashton Shepherd, Brooke Eden who first garnered attention auditioning for the seventh and tenth seasons of American Idol, and finally Julie Roberts who was previously featured in the last series for the 2000s with her song "Break Down Here".

Katie Armiger ”Better in a Black Dress“ I don't need a white veil, I got a black dress Don't need a preacher, no no not yet Don't have the blues when I've got my red wine Out on the town, or in the city Ain't nothin like the way it fits me So take that gown and lay it down to rest 'Cause I'm better in a black dress
Ashton Shepherd ”Where Country Grows“ It's in the hearts of those who know what life's all about It's laying your head on your pillow and fallin' to sleep proud You bow your head to Jesus 'cause He's where it all comes from And you know He'll forgive you for the wrong you've done Ooh, it's in the earth and the church and the words that we speak slow That's where country grows
Kristen Kelly ”He Loves to Make Me Cry“ He loves to make me cry Love to make me weep Puts those tears in my eyes Not the bitter but the sweet Can't help but love that man of mine Oh, 'cause he loves to make me cry
Brooke Eden ”American Dreamin'“ Girls gotta be hot, guys gotta be strong But ain't we all just trying to belong And I'm just trying to be me Oh show your true colors, let 'em shine through Cause love is still love no matter who's lovin' who And I'm gonna find someone who loves me for me
Julie Roberts ”Good Wine & Bad Decisions“ It don't matter what dress I put on We both know it won't stay on for long And these heels all they're good for Is walking through your door and laying on your bedroom floor
Ain't hurt nobody, got no one at home Sometimes a girl just don't like to be alone Two old flames burning bright, oh it sure feels right If only for one night

If "Where Country Grows" had been in this, it would've fought for my #1 position. That's my favorite Ashton Shepherd and I love her! I also am a big fan of Katie Armiger and "Black Dress" also happens to be my favorite of her's, and it would've contended for top 10 or 15 at the absolute worst.
Kristen Kelly, on the other hand, would've been a bottom 5 for me most likely. I never cared for her at all.

I'm going to jump into the Top 30 and reveal the next set of five songs. Here's a few things to expect: - The majority of the songs were on the polarizing side as they consist of the 6th, 13th, 19th, and 27th highest standard deviation
- Four of the songs were a top 10 contender at one point with one of them even sneaking inside the top 5
- Eleven top 10 rankings will depart along with seven top 5s
- Two participants lose their second top ranked song
- A second participant becomes the next casualty to lose their top ranking song

Stats for #30:
The first song to exit within the Top 30 glided all the way near the top ten early into its run thanks to the first of three top 10 rankings and first of two top 15s. Even though it started to slide back it always remained a consistent contender to finish with the top 30. The majority of the group put this somewhere within their top 40, while a few in the bunch opted to lump this into their bottom 5.

While I do enjoy Brandy Clark's version of "Crazy Women", LeAnn's has always been my favorite. I hadn't listened to this song in quite some time, but after revisiting it for LeAnn's singles rankdown earlier this year I would have to say I enjoy this more now than I probably did when it was originally released.

Stats for #29:
Our next song also had an early climb into the top ten where it reached its highest ranking of #9, however a lone bottom five ranking came in thereafter along with two bottom 10s which it was never quite able to recover from. A trio of top 10 and top 15 rankings leave along with two top 20s.

I admittedly haven't dug into the Pistol Annies first two albums and this is the only song I'm familiar with outside of the ones from Interstate Gospel. Not sure if anyone has any interest in hosting an album rankdown series for them, but I'd love to use that as an opportunity to listen to their albums in full.

Stats for #28:
The next song reached its highest rank of #4 very early on in its run, but was quickly shot outside of the top 30 when it received its first bottom five ranking. A second bottom five ranking followed on the heels of that sending this all the way back to its lowest position of #49, but it steadily began to pick up more support from those placing this in their top 20 and continued its ascent. This looked to be a safe top 25 contender until the very final list came in with a third bottom five ranking. Two participants lose a top 10 while two others lose a top five including someone's second top ranked song.

"Crowded Table" wasn't my first choice for this series as many of you might remember that the namesake of the rankdown originally had their first single "Redesigning Women" included. As that song was selected for another rankdown, I went back to the drawing board and ended up making quite a few changes to how I approached the selection of the songs for this decade. I've only grown to love this song more with time and in turn I also felt like it was one of the more harder ones for me to rank personally. I wasn't sure at all how this might perform and in the end I think it likely exceeded any and all expectations I might've had.

Oh good! "Hush Hush" and "Crowded Table" are both good, but they were starting to stick out like sore thumbs among everything else that is left.
Although I won't get too celebratory, because my #1 has already vastly surpassed my expectations, and I would be shocked if it is not about to leave any moment...
Edit: "Ladies in the '90s" needs to go soon too. It's nowhere close to as great as the majority of what is left.

Stats for #27:
The next song jumpstarted off to its highest position within the top ten, however it very quickly fell back as it picked up its first of three bottom ten rankings very early on. Thanks to some additional support it managed to sneak back into the top 20, but that was short lived and crept back outside of the top 30. This only managed to climb a few spots higher towards the tail end when it picked up its only three top five rankings including someone's second top ranked song.

Stats for #26: Our final song to leave before the top 25 had a pretty wild ride out of the gate as it jumped into its highest position of #6 and then leapfrogged back to its lowest position almost outside of the top 35. It quickly picked up momentum, though, and looked like a surefire top 20 contender until the last handful of lists started trickling in. Only one participant loses a top ten ranking, however, while two others lose a top five including one who joins taylor in the loss of their top ranking song. Holy cow, was NOT expecting "Hey Heartbreak" to have a #1! I was convinced it was probably mine!
"Hey Heartbreak" is a quirky song, so I could definitely understand folks not liking it, but I personally think it is a major jam. Jennifer is one of the most underrated vocalists in the business right now. She has such a huge range, and immaculate power and control on both ends of it, which "Hey Heartbreak" kinda shows off. It's a shame it wasn't able to hold onto the top 20 in the end!
