I'll be the first to admit that outside of "I Can Do Hard Things" I've never really warmed up to anything Jennifer has released as a solo artist. That said, of all the songs that grew on me the most when listening to all of these songs in would be "Hey Heartbreak" and I can certainly understand why some of y'all enjoy this. It's a catchy tune but I still have a hard time getting past the vocal arrangement.

LeAnn Rimes ”Borrowed“ Do you tell her that you love her like you do me Do you make love to her the way you make love to me Well I keep myself alone in case you call tonight Oh it's pathetic how I lie around and wait all the damn time It's a short hide and long low every time you have to go
Pistol Annies ”Best Years of My Life“ I was looking forward to staying here forever ‘cause you asked me to Didn't think that I could do better So I settled down in this ten-cent town It's about to break me
I'm gonna mix a drink and try to drown this worthlessness Call mom and tell her I'm alright Well he don't love me but he ain't gone yet These are the best years of my life
”Cheyenne“ She lives for the nightlife and trashy tattoos She loves country music and broken-in boots Nobody can blame her for the chip on her shoulder She finds plenty of pool-table cowboys to hold her
She knows how to make him wild in the eyes Comes on like a fever and sets him on fire I bet she won't even cry when it's over She's fast like a train, nobody can slow her
The Highwomen ”Highwomen“ We are The Highwomen Singing stories still untold We carry the sons you can only hold We are the daughters of the silent generations You sent our hearts to die alone in foreign nations It may return to us as tiny drops of rain But we will still remain ”If She Ever Leaves Me“ I see you watch her from across the room Dancing her home in your mind Well, it takes more than whiskey to make that flower bloom By the third drink you'll find out she's mine
She loves Wild Horses and Tumbling Dice She don't have a single tattoo She'll drink all the liquor and leave you the ice That's too much cologne, she likes perfume
RaeLynn ”Rowdy“ Yeah I get rowdy like a Texas twister Getting twisted ripping through a trailer park Rowdy like bowling, looking like Daisy Duke dancing on the bar The redneck thing about me is I'm all hell yeah and howly ”Bra Off“ I knew it was over when you called and I cringed I knew it was over when I didn't want us kissing Over when I had people asking about you and all I said was ugh
I knew it was over when you called me babe And I wanted to throw up 'cause I don't wanna be your baby Over like a work day like you're new nine to five yeah I think you're a really nice guy but…
Jennifer Nettles ”Unlove You“ I could break down and cry Laugh it off and deny, draw lines in the sand And count on both hands all the reasons why this just won't work
But we have other lives and we know it ain't right This is going nowhere if I'm with you I don't care Take me nowhere tonight ”I Can Do Hard Things“ Sometimes I can hold it all I know where I end and where I start And sometimes it's all way too heavy And I'm way more than the sum of all my parts

"Unlove You" is immaculate and "Hey Heartbreak" is an absolute jam. Sad to see it missed out on the Top 20. </3
Jennifer's solo work is incredible imo..."His Hands" is another incredibly powerful song.

With both songs by the Pistol Annies and The Highwomen exiting, this feels like a good time to do the second set of honorable mentions. I'll be highlighting the solo work of both Brandi Carlile and Amanda Shires both of whom are part of The Highwomen along with Angaleena Presley of the Pistol Annies. I'll also be highlighting two singer-songwriters including Gretchen Peters and Natalie Hemby who is also a member of The Highwomen.

Gretchen Peters ”Blackbirds“ Uneasy lies the head – unfaithful is the heart Ungrateful and unlucky and untrue And no one saw me coming, and no one saw me go Only the blackbirds and you ”Arguing With Ghosts“ The years go by like days, sometimes the days go by like years And I don't know which one I hate the most At this same old kitchen table, in this same old busted chair I'm drinking coffee and arguing with ghosts
Angaleena Presley of Pistol Annies ”Mama I Tried“ I cheated and I lied I painted up my face like a rodeo clown And I choked on cheap perfume as I spread myself around I strutted my stuff at every juke joint in town Always the bridesmaid, never the bride
Brandi Carlile of The Highwomen ”The Joke“ Let 'em laugh while they can Let 'em spin, let 'em scatter in the wind I have been to the movies, I've seen how it ends And the joke's on them
Amanda Shires of The Highwomen ”My Love (The Storm)“ I am the storm at summer's end Watch the willows mourn Watch the branches bend And the wind don't know your daddy's name And the heart will break all the plans you've made
Natalie Hemby of The Highwomen Songwriting Credits: for Kacey Musgraves: “Rainbow”, “Butterflies”, “Velvet Elvis”; for Miranda Lambert: “Bluebird”, “Settling Down”, “Getaway Driver”, “Keeper of the Flame”, “Automatic”, “Platinum”, “Smokin’ & Drinkin’”, “Baggage Claim”, “White Liar”; for Lady A: “Downtown”; for Little Big Town: “Pontoon”, “Tornado”, “Quit Breaking Up With Me”; for Lee Ann Womack: “The Bees”; for A Star Is Born: “Always Remember Us This Way”, “I’ll Never Love Again”

Holy cow, was NOT expecting "Hey Heartbreak" to have a #1! I was convinced it was probably mine!
"Hey Heartbreak" is a quirky song, so I could definitely understand folks not liking it, but I personally think it is a major jam. Jennifer is one of the most underrated vocalists in the business right now. She has such a huge range, and immaculate power and control on both ends of it, which "Hey Heartbreak" kinda shows off. It's a shame it wasn't able to hold onto the top 20 in the end! This RD is stacked with outstanding tunes from wildly talented women. Many were personal discoveries. IMO, Jennifer Nettles has one of the most distinct set of pipes - not just in country circles, but in the music business as a whole. When she planned her first solo project a few years back, I thought that she was destined for global crossover mega-stardom. It's nice that she has stayed true to her roots through the years.

Both versions of Crazy Women are excellent. LeAnn Rimes' version has more pronounced fiddles making the song even catchier. RaeLynn's pick is the most obvious one and it should be a bit higher. Hey Heartbreak aged terribly for me. At least not for my ears that listen to more soft-voiced women nowadays.

Angaleena Presley of Pistol Annies ”Mama I Tried“ I cheated and I lied I painted up my face like a rodeo clown And I choked on cheap perfume as I spread myself around I strutted my stuff at every juke joint in town Always the bridesmaid, never the bride Is that my influence lol Also Natalie Hemby's version of Rainbow is great! Underrated vocals.

I know "Love Triangle" is RaeLynn's most popular song on Pulse so seeing it land right in the middle of this doesn't surprise me, but I'm still happy to see it do well here! She's one of the most underrated of the newer country females. Very strong lyrics, melodies, and I LOVE her voice even though I understand it's unique and therefore polarizing. But "Love Triangle" is just an absolutely heart-wrenching stone cold classic country song.

That honorable mention...had "The Joke" been in here, it would've fought rather viciously for my #1. What an immaculate song. It never fails to reduce me to tears; it's a wonderful pick-me-up.

I'm going to kick things off a bit early this evening so that we can reveal the remaining top 20 songs! Here are a few things to expect for this round: - A trio of polarizing songs exit including those with the 2nd, 4th, and 5th highest standard deviation
- There are two ties in this set with the first tiebreaker going to the one in which a participant placed as their top ranking song
- The second tie is between #20 and #21 with the tiebreaker coming down to the less polarizing of the two
- The loses start to pick up as twelve top 10s exit along with FIFTEEN top 5 rankings
- Of those top 5 rankings, five participants will lose their second top ranked song and as mentioned above a third participant loses their #1

Stats for #25:
The first song to exit got off to a rough start as it picked up not one but two bottom 10 rankings. This song showed a lot of backbone, however, as it began to shed off the early haters and climbed all the way up into the top 20. It hit a bump in the middle of its run when it got it with its first of two bottom 5 rankings (really y'all?!) which in turn did push this one all the back outside of the top 35. The last handful of lists to come in, though, were its saving grace as it picked up two more top 10 rankings as well as its only two top 5s. Needless to say this was quite polarizing and comes in with the fifth highest standard deviation.
Best rankdown position: 17 Worst rankdown position: 52 Average position: 26.33 SD Rank: 5th Highest Ranking distribution: Top 10s: 6 11 to 20: 3 21 to 30: 5 31 to 40: 1 41 to 50: 4 Bottom 5s: 2

"Tough" is a surefire jam and it's long been a disappointment that this wasn't a bigger hit for Kellie on country radio. And what gives with all of these bottom 5s and 10s?!? Haters I tell ya!

Stats for #24:
Our next song also had a rather rough time out of the gate as much like our last reveal picked up two bottom 10s. Luckily it reached its lowest rank of #40 early on and it was nothing but up from there (or is down lol?). Either way, this had quite a bit of passion as overall thirteen participants placed this somewhere within their top 30. While this didn't pick up any top 10s, it did pick up a trio of top 5s including two who put this as their second top ranked song.
Best rankdown position: 2 Worst rankdown position: 40 Average position: 25.95 SD Rank: 26th Lowest Ranking distribution: Top 10s: 3 11 to 20: 4 21 to 30: 6 31 to 40: 5 41 to 50: 2 Bottom 5s: 1

"Criminal" was definitely a grower for me and initially I'd guess that I probably only had this ranked somewhere in my top 40. I just couldn't get this song out of my head, though, and it was probably the one I kept coming back around to revisit numerous times. I've heard other members rave about this song before and never quite got all of hype, but my initial impressions about this were wrong and in turn I ended up putting this just inside my top 30. And although LBTrocks "forgot" to do this rankdown, I believe he mentioned that this song likely would've been one of his top ranked songs.

Stats for #23:
The next song to exit is tied with song #22 with the tiebreaker going to the one that someone put as their top ranking song. While both songs were very polarizing, this one actually came in with the second highest standard deviation with the majority putting this either in the top 10 or top 50. Four participants depart with a top 5 including one of which is someones second top ranking song.
Best rankdown position: 13 Worst rankdown position: 41 Average position: 25.71 SD Rank: 2ND HIGHEST Ranking distribution: Top 10s: 8 11 to 20: 1 21 to 30: 2 31 to 40: 2 41 to 50: 7 Bottom 5s: 1

A couple of you had actually predicted that "It Won't Always Be Like This" would be a top 5 contender and to the surprise of some this leaves a bit earlier than expected. While I do like this song, I have to be in the right kind of mood to want to hear it and therefore found it to be one of the hardest songs to rank overall. I do wonder if that this song had been a single it would've ended up performing a bit better and might've even placed closer to the top 15. I know that this was a song many of you were hoping to see released as a single, but I think we can all understand why Carly was ready to move on to a new project.

Stats for #22:
The tie-breaking song is our next reveal and unfortunately a third participant loses their top ranked song. Much like the previous reveal, this is also an album track that was just about as polarizing as it came in with the 4th highest standard deviation. The early support it received actually put this into the top 5, but that was short-lived as it picked up its first of two bottom 5 rankings. While it did momentarily flirt with being a bottom 10 contender, it managed to climb its way all the way back into the top 20 before being kicked out at the last moment by its third bottom ten ranking.
Best rankdown position: 4 Worst rankdown position: 46 Average position: 25.71 SD Rank: 4TH HIGHEST Ranking distribution: Top 10s: 6 11 to 20: 3 21 to 30: 4 31 to 40: 2 41 to 50: 4 Bottom 5s: 2

My condolences to .indulgecountry as he becomes our third participant to lose their top ranking song. I along with two others lose a top five ranking with recordyear losing his second top ranking as well. It's quite disappointing to see this song climb all the way out of the bottom 10 and into the top 20, only to be sent out at the very last minute. This song was an instant favorite when I first listened to the album and it is one that I still like to play from to time. I am a bit surprised, though, that this managed to leave before "Keeper of the Flame" given that this song seemed to be more of a favorite as it placed within the top 3 in the album rankdown.

Stats for #21:
Our last song in this set is actually tied with #20 with the tiebreaker going not to this song but the other as it had the 12th lowest standard deviation. This always remained a consistent top 30 contender and even briefly shot into the top 15. This all but looked to finish right at #25 until the final list came in and provided this one last boost thanks to its third top 10 ranking. While only one participant loses a top 5 ranking, it is a top 3!
