omg I'd love to see people's reactions if there were no recurrent rules & "All I Want for Christmas Is You" could re-enter in October :kii:
that said, I think recurrent rule helps the turnover rate in the US because the radio delays the descent of big hits. in the UK, no recurrent rule isn't exactly a big issue (though they do have the questionable ACR rule for streaming). longest-charting hit there on last week's chart was "Dance Monkey" in the Top 50, at #42 with 58 weeks, followed by "Blinding Lights" at #21 and 41 weeks. the more outrageous numbers begin to show up towards the bottom of the chart, where "Mr. Brightside" ranks at #93 in its 242nd week, "Perfect" is at #94 in its 143rd week, and "Shallow" is at #95 in its 79th week.
I'm afraid with the current chart formula we would still have "Memories" and "Girls Like You" charting in the US lol so I'm for the recurrent rule for the time being.

That absolutely would be the case, at least for "Memories." By comparing among charts (the Hot Country Chart is especially useful for this this week) we can see, for instance, that everything above #17 on the Recurrent chart would be above #83 on the Hot 100. That number happens to work out nicely this week, since if those songs were on the Hot 100 this week the #83 song ("Starting Over" by Chris Stapleton) would be #100. So, for instance, "Sunflower" would be in or close to the end of two years on the Hot 100, and "Whiskey Glasses" by Morgan Wallen would be getting up there too. And "Perfect" would probably be just below the Hot 100 and threatening to rechart in future weeks, since in many weeks the recurrents would rank higher on the Hot 100 than they do this week (for instance, only "Someone You Loved" should be above #50, and everything below #7 on the Recurrent chart would rank below all the songs above #70 on the Hot 100).

You are all forgetting this song which will make every year-end chart. This song will chart at 70s-80s almost every week (exception is when there are huge album bombs with many songs). In the Nielsen's Mid-Year report 2020 it was #3 on On-Demand Video Streams.
