Is it me or does the chorus for Prisoner sound a lot like Physical (Olivia Newton-John) Yes, and the "oh I can't control it I can't" part has the same melody as "I was made for loving you"

^Yeah. No wonder it sounded familiar. I guess Miley's producers are trying to rip a classic once again.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks this. A little too reminiscent... As far as I know, it's a sample. This was no accident. Also, this tracking week is labled as December? Wtf? Can someone explain to me? Didnβt Dua already use that sample this year?

Feels like on iTunes Life Goes On should have a bigger lead over the other BTS songs, given (based on kworb) it's discounted. And it's the single, with a music video.

The song is called βPhysicalβ, yes, but it doesnβt sample Newton John. The title is just a nod to the classic, not a sample.

Morgan has 2 of the top 3 on apple music, a rap-centered platform.
Wonder how he'll do on spotify tomorrow morning...

Country does better on Apple Music than Spotify at this point.
And Morgan Wallen keeps choosing bad weeks to release, considering 7 Summers & this new song at #2 could've both been #1 on Apple Music in weeks where another major artist wasn't releasing.

Aren't we due for 90s throwbacks by now? The 80s had its revival in the 2010s, it's time to milk the next decade. I mean, we've had a few (Finesse comes to mind), but I'd expect there to be a lot more.

Well we sort of did when Bruno Mars dropped 24K Magic and Finesse. And in case of eurodance, I think we're saying spiritual successors in the form of hyperpop and slap bass

There is also so much R&B from the 90s that could serve as throwback fodder. I wouldn't be surprised if Bruno Mars' next album was one giant Boyz II Men pastiche (although he did dip into it a bit on 24K Magic).

I also wouldn't mind grunge throwbacks. Post Malone could do that.

Itβs hitting me just how S T A C K E D this week is.
- BTS - DaBaby - Megan Thee Stallion - Shawn Mendes & Justin Bieber - Morgan Wallen - Miley Cyrus & Dua Lipa
Like, holy s**t. Also wondering when country got big on streaming. It seemed like it never did very well, and then Luke Combs suddenly did huge numbers. Drake & Morgan Wallen are going to make us suffer next year lol

90s alternative rock will have a revival on charts soon. The movement is bubbling under right now. beabadoobee, Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, The 1975 even, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get a OHW in the future that's a throwback to 90s alt or britpop

A little-known fact is that all songs sample βPhysicalβ by Olivia Newton-John. Every single one! And now that you know that, you wonβt be able to unhear it

It was withheld from public release until 1981, when the world was ready

Mozart and Rachmaninoff have both been real quiet ever since Olivia Newton-John dropped π₯π₯π₯ that is "Physical". Coincidence? I think not.

90s alternative rock will have a revival on charts soon. If you mean alternative rock grunge like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Is it me or does the chorus for Prisoner sound a lot like Physical (Olivia Newton-John) Don't know if it's been said already, but to me it sounds just like "Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz.

To think it was intended for Rod Stewart. Ew. Itβs too bad ONJβs catalogue has been a mess for years - streaming and digital. She doesnβt have a single compilation available. We need an ONJ revival beyond Grease. Mileyβs homage to this era has been quite remarkable. I hope Prisoner ends up breaking through at radio.

The closest we got to a 90s throwback this year was "Rain On Me" with its house elements. Arguably DJ Regard's "Ride It" also played a bit into that sound, and I adore both songs.
The 80s are fun and all, but the 90s are so diverse musically, and I'd be all for reinventions and reinterpretations of the defining genres of that decade, while still adding fresh and modern elements to them, of course. π
