Push- just the soundtrack is exclusive to Apple in the first week; the single is on all pertinent streaming/digital platforms.

By that logic, Bohemian Rhapsody shouldn't have made the 1992 YE. But at least in that case, it saw a genuine revival thanks to Wayne's World and even saw a new peak. AIWFCIY and all the rest of the Christmas staples just come back for 5-6 weeks every year, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that long of a time, certainly not compared to the other songs that make the YE. Even most of the American Idol songs that made the YE spent more time on the charts than that. So should BTS' song not be eligible for the year-end chart if it falls off in 4-5 weeks? Most songs that have that kind of run aren't anywhere near the YE anyway (see TROLLZ). And from the looks of things, the ARMY is determined to keep Life Goes On around, at least for a little while.

also i better not see anyone saying "none of these charts matter in the end anyway, calm down etc" on a CHART DISCUSSION page Oh do people not like it when I say that lol iβm all for discussion and everyone having an opinion β but I swear sometimes people here act like Billboardβs policies are a violent personal injustice against them

I don't think there's any need to make short chart runs ineligible for the YE, when there is a substantial amount of chart points that are required to make the YE anyway. If a song like Hello can make 200k chart points in a single week, then it deserves a spot on the YE even if it's only on for a tiny amount of time. And if AIWFCIY can make a YE chart year after year with a month and a half on the chart, then it belongs there, at least until and unless someone says otherwise. It's very hard for a song to make a YE with a short chart run, and it requires such immense popularity in its few weeks on the chart that it would clearly have to have massive and widespread appeal.

I agree there! I just think that it can be frustrating when told year-end charts donβt matter during an argument on a chart forum. Like, if they donβt matter, then why are we even here? Why are any of us talking about it? A year-end chart is supposed to be a snapshot of the biggest tracks of the year Where is this codified? Also, if I may be a lil spicy - if a year end chart isnβt a rundown of the yearβs biggest songs, then what the fuck is it?

I really hope billboard will remove radio as one of the counted metrics. All these songs staying multiple weeks, because djβs arenβt versatile. Very annoying That's our fault as the public, not DJs. If they weren't liked they wouldn't be played. Oh please, people are not requesting songs on the radio like that anymore. At this point, radio is a robot that plays whatever is βpopularβ. however, I donβt think streaming should take precedenceβradio aint dead yet. A top 10 full of streaming songs would have no consistency. Fun to watch each week but annoying.

Shawn's had the "hot but sensitive" cute white pop boy niche on lock for years at this point, but Harry does the same thing while also making much better music. He probably would've fallen off soon enough regardless but Harry crowding him out definitely sped up the process. Honestly, I think Shawn Mendes trying so hard to deflect gay rumors has turned people off. For me, it feels like Ricky Martin-Barbara Walters are you gay interviewish. He and Camilla do not seem believable and then thereβs Harry Styles being all carefree and embracing those rumors. The relationship with Camilla is clearly alienating a lot of his fanbase, so is this fake butch persona.

I think the post is that year end charts are often used as a be-all end-all for comparing songs when weβve seen time and time again that they arenβt. A song charting below another or not making a year end chart isnβt necessarily a flop or a smaller hit just because. Looking at one year end chart to determine chart success is almost as bad looking at a single weekly chart. It lacks much-needed context.

It's a literal ranking of the songs by points accumulated while on the Hot 100. What you then extrapolate from that is your own business, but I think we can all think of instances where what was #1 on the year-end chart wasn't necessarily "the biggest song of the year," for instance.

It clearly was meaningful enough for you to sustain the argument up until this point lol

First off, Harry Styles has been very open about the fluidity of his gender and sexuality. It's not all a "carefree attitude" and he's made it very clear in several interviews that him dressing or acting effeminate is not down simply out of grabbing attention (https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/dec/14/harry-styles-sexual-ambiguity-dating-normals-rocking-a-dress) Secondly, can we please stop this with saying straight celebrities are "acting so hard to deflect being gay". As an open pan person, I think this is very insensitive towards Shawn. His preferences are his own personal business: he's not the only straight celebrity that's been made uncomfortable by these pokes and constantly prodding it like this is not being respectful at all. It's just as bad as saying a person is in a phase if they come out to you as gay. If later down the line, he comes out as gay or bi or pan, then that was their own prerogative and we shouldn't be all high and mighty. Sexuality and gender are very complicated, private concerns: please don't go speculating publicly because it may lead to more insecurity and fear towards that person.

Kylie Minogue in the top 100! I'll take it, even if it's only because of Christmas playlists! She remains criminally underrated in the states.

drem- the "Oh Santa!" trio version has been just under the top 200 globally the past couple of days. Not sure about the third day, as the track's third-day numbers haven't been updated yet. It's faring better than Mimi's recent non-holiday new releases.

Well at least Last Christmas will finally crack the top 10. Hoping for Ariana and Kelly but I'm expecting an 11 and 12 peak

I could see there being maybe even 7-8 Christmas songs in the top 10

Doubt it, the gap tends to fluctuate a bit. It will probably get wider again.

In other news, Kid Cudi is set to release Man On The Moon 3 on Friday. Not sure what the chances of an album bomb from this are like, but it could happen.
