Some of you underestimate the sexism and ageism in the music industry and undervalue the lengths Taylor and team have to go through to maintain her relevancy/dominance. How many women 30+ are simultaneously debuting at #1 on the Hot 100 and BB200? Who’s the last solo woman 30+ to even get a Hot 100 #1? When’s the last time a woman 30+ has gotten a CHR #1?
We can pretend that everyone has a fair shot at the top, but at 31 it’s always going to be an uphill battle for Taylor from here on out. If Taylor doesn’t play the game, and even the battlefield, she will easily be pushed out just because she’s a woman past her twenties.

Mariah/Ariana fans were spending thousands to keep Mariah at #1. Outrageous tactics by stans happen across the board on Twitter. I don't know why some of these fans get so invested in chart placement, to the point where they think if their favorite artist hits the top, they themselves hit the top. lol
I am thinking the reason Taylor and her team are pushing so hard to go #1 is record related.
Will it make her the first artist to debut at #1 with both an album and single in the same week (would be the second time after Folklore and "Cardigan")?

Taylor was the first artist to do it but a few weeks ago BTS also achieved it with Life Goes On and BE, so with evermore and willow, Taylor can do this double debut thing again and be the only one who did it twice.

Can't wait for all the Adele and Rihanna remixes, discounts, etc. 2021 is going to be a blast in the Hot 100 threads. Adele? I really doubt that lol

Rude Boy: Rated R > Only Girl (In The World) + What’s My Name: LOUD S&M: LOUD > We Found Love: Talk That Talk We Found Love: Talk That Talk > Diamonds: Unapologetic She scored number one singles from multiple albums in the same calendar year, but the albums themselves were usually released in November the year prior. The eras (technically speaking) all crossed over.

I have nothing against Taylor and what she is doing is not a crime, but it seems pathetic for her. If Evermore is this surprised folky album. Why go through all of these tactics to get a cheap #1... Stuff like this is going to bite her in the butt. Then again, had the song debuted anywhere else, she would probably be labeled a flop. Perhaps ME and Calm Down not going to #1 still haunts her.

What's the point of having a #1 when YOU KNOW it wasn't because of the gp enjoying your song enough to put it there? all these antics cheapen the quality of the music. like how can any artist who does these tricks convince themselves that their #1 holds the same weight as the organic #1s?

It's just saddening. Especially when in this case, unlike "Yummy", "ME!", or "TROLLZ", "willow" is an actual great song. Taylor Swift is at a point in her career where she really shouldn't depend on #1 hits for approval. She's always been more of an album artist anyway. I really don't understand why she's pulling all the stops for this.

^The answer to the latter is easy. The thing that she probably enjoys most and has most success from is performing concerts. Given that she couldn't do that due to the pandemic, she shifted her efforts toward the two albums we got this year. Of course, we all should know by now she'll try to push to have a successful album and leading song release. The one thing that appears has been different with these two albums is that she has been promoting the album more than the leading single after the release week. We'll see if that's the case with willow.

Wow, these days i cant believe that Taylor Swift/her team is so obsessed with getting the no.1 hit/highest peak as possible. I wonder why now, when Taylor seems more mature as an artist by releasing 2 consecutive cool records. Before ME!, they didnt do cheap tactics like this. They were okay with Delicate missing top 10 Hot 100, or End Game underperforming. They didnt really try to make 1989 a 5 no.1 hit- album, although they could. They let Style and Wildest Dream peaked organically despite missing top 3. They were okay with 2 flop singles after Wildest Dream. Baack during Red era, they were also okay with I Knew You Were Trouble barely missing the no.1. Didn't she always have various tactics for her albums though? Like I remember people being shocked that she was selling Red even in Starbucks. She was selling “RED” through Papa John’s Pizza, The Farmers Market & Walgreens. She had a deal with Starbucks during the “Speak Now” era. Either way... These tactics aren’t new to her, nor us. They’ve just grown in visibility and become more pronounced since the “Reputation” era.

jenglisbe It's doing extremely well on radio (currently in the top 5) and it rose to #18 on Spotify today - the 8th biggest non-Christmas song (as you can see above).

^But that's only because of holiday songs. Without them, it would have been #8 in Streaming Songs if I checked correctly. Not to mention that it was #6 in Radio Songs.

I get all of that about holiday songs, but it's competing with those holiday songs above it on the Hot 100 but is higher than them on the Hot 100. I keep thinking streaming counts more than it does.

has there ever happened, an artist scoring at least one Hot 100 no.1 from multiple studio albums released in the same year? the Beatles definitely did this Yeah five out of the six of their number ones in '64 were from different albums I Want To Hold Your Hand (Meet The Beatles!) She Loves You (The Beatles' Second Album) Can't Buy Me Love & A Hard Day's Night (A Hard Day's Night) Love Me Do (Introducing The Beatles) I Feel Fine (Beatles '65)

Rihanna didnt release multiple studio albums in the same year though. Other than The Beatles, any other examples? Or will Taylor be only the 2nd artist to achieve this rare feat?

However MC album was released the previous year (1990).

The extra remixes etc are only a problem for the same reason physical singles sales were a problem, for the same reason streaming sometimes is a problem. Stan culture: people are able to consume the same song multiple ways and have them all contribute to the end result. So stans are able to contribute to the Hot 100 tenfold and then it becomes a stan war. I’d prefer remixes to most any other form of “chart manipulation” (though I do enjoy CD or 7” singles too!) but if I listen to each remix, I shouldn’t be counted 4 times.
