So, next week AIWFCIY will be the first song to be at #1 in 3 different years. Wouldn't it technically have to be next year(as in if it gets back to #1 in December of 2021)? Most of next week is still in 2020.

If y'all gonna drag Taylor, I better see 10x about BTS. If 'Last Christmas' got blocked from Top 10....

Most of next week is still in 2020. technically yes, but according to Billboard - no. 2020's first #1 was AIWFCIY...and this week (12/26) is the 52nd week of the year, so...

I never thought another Global chart could ever get more embarrassing than the U.K. charts in the early to middle-2000’s and well...
Here we are. 💀
It’s absolutely pathetic that Carey can be ahead in streams by 10M+ and airplay by 20M+ and lose to a song that is merely ahead in 40K sales. Mass discounts and remixes clearly won!
Anyway, I’m READY for the onslaught of Xmas songs in the top 10/20 next week. 👏🏿

For those who hate Christmas songs invading the top 10, you should be happy about BTS. But yes, sad if it blocked Last Christmas...as I'm streaming it now! :)

The BTS sales thing remains annoying...
I love Taylor but "willow" is probably the least impactful #1 we have had since... ever? At least "stuck with u" and "Trollz" made some controversy and noise.

Breaking down the song's first-week sales, seven purchase options were available in Swift's webstore during the tracking week, with all discounted for the frame's last 31 hours to between 48 cents and $1.03. Along with the song's original version, its "dancing witch (Elvira remix)," "lonely witch" and "moonlight witch" versions were available individually. Plus, three versions were available as part of the song's "Woodvale" collection: its "dancing witch," "lonely witch" and "moonlight witch" iterations; for the collection, they were packaged with, respectively, an instrumental version of "Willow," an original songwriting demo of "Willow" and a live version of her 2019 single "Christmas Tree Farm" (with each two-track "Woodvale" purchase counting as one sale for chart tabulation purposes). lol the shade! But I‘m happy for Taylor, she really put out some really great music this year.

Lol let's not exaggerate. Life Goes On was #1 a few weeks ago and then there is the whole chart history to recap.

US #1: Dynamite forgot to add that Global charts don’t count website sales, so that could’ve impacted the song’s position as well. it’s interesting that Dynamite is still #1 tho - does anyone know how? i haven’t really heard much on the christmas remix making much noise worldwide

It’s also still charting top 3 in Japan. The released the Christmas remix as well as multiple videos for it on YouTube so I’m guessing that those global streams helped considering that it only logged 17k sales for that chart

Also thanks to the Billboard Global 200:
willow sold 31K regular digital sales from DSPs such as iTunes & Amazon, and 28K sales from her website to get that 59K total in general.
Plus, I'm presuming Taylor did better in premium streams and Mariah did better in programmed/free tier streams.

Taylor debuting atop the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 simultaneously, twice, and in the same year!
Not saying that I necessarily "agree" or am happy with what she did, but it all makes sense why she pushed Willow so hard. This record will be hard to be beat, especially within the same year!

The BTS sales thing remains annoying... I love Taylor but "willow" is probably the least impactful #1 we have had since... ever? At least "stuck with u" and "Trollz" made some controversy and noise. "Life Goes On", "Cardigan" ("Willow" will likely duplicate its radio run), and likely a few others. As for "Willow" and its #1 peak I am sure most will rightfully view it with an asterisk. It wasn't even needed as it still would have charted high regardless (likely just a spot lower). I am still interested to see the sales prior to that last 31hr window where the origin of all the dragging takes place. I myself am not a fan of excessive tactics to pull off a singular high peak, but I suppose in her team's eyes all that will be remembered or known in the long run (outside of deep-diving chart observers) is it was another #1 to bolster her achievement tally. Hate Taylor or love Taylor it is impressive she even has the pull to top a behemoth like "All I Want For Christmas Is You" in arguably its prime (outside Christmas week itself). I didn't think she even had a shot tbh. It will be nice to see Mariah achieve her record next week and for said record to continue to be extended indefinitely. lol

90s Mariah would've never let a #1 slip away by 2 points. Why wouldn't she let it slip away now? The song is a surefire hit with plenty of weeks at #1 (and probably many more to come). Pushing tactics to prevent it from falling from #1 would just have been petty.

The fact nobody here brought up "FRANCHISE" in the discussion of forgettable #1s this year. 😭
That one definitely takes the cake, I think. As you said, at least "TROLLZ", "Stuck With U", and "Life Goes On" had some controversy attached to them.

At the end of the day if someone vying for #1 wants to play the tactic game, then I don't see how in any instance the other party vying for #1 also doing things in reaction would be 'petty'. No point in picking and choosing who in the top 2 is specifically allowed to do tricks for #1 lmao.

I’m sure that was the reason why they did it. Honesty, I say good for her and her team, they did what needed to be done. For me this week showed two things, that Taylor got a very cool Billboard record and that AIWFCIY continues to be powerful song and a force on the charts.

Obviously anyone is allowed to employ tactics to go/stay #1, and Mariah knows a few tricks herself from a few years ago But what is another week at #1 for AIWFCIY's success? Mariah probably doesn't even care, and rightfully so.

Seen recently with Taylor herself doing the tactics/new versions against competition in further weeks after Folklore debuted #1 to get additional weeks atop. Mariah is past the point of strongly following her charting I would guess, and AIWFCIY hitting #1 for the first time was the final icing on the cake for the song to her.
