And there we have it folks as one of the most talked about songs of the rankdown leaves within the top 3! "Live Close By, Visit Often" was actually a very strong top 3 competitor for the last half of its run as it picked up a string of top 5 support including three top rankings from austin, LBTrocks, and .indulgecountry. The majority of the group ended up putting this somewhere in their top 10 it seems with only one other participant putting it in their top 12. It had its share of detractors though as four of you put this in your bottom 5 including two bottom 2 rankings from CoJoFan and castleoblivion26. That it turn made this our second most polarizing song of the rankdown.

We've been educated, we got liberated And had complicating matters with men Oh, we've said "I do" and we've signed "I don't" And we've sworn we'd never do that again Oh, we burned our bras and we burned our dinners And we burned our candles at both ends And we've had some children Who look just like the way we did back then 1. “80’s Ladies”Released: April 1987 Album: 80’s Ladies Peak Chart Position: #7 Total: 43 Average: 2.87 Std Dev: 2.33 (LOWEST!)
Come next Monday, I’m goin' to bed early I won't talk dirty for a week or two Goin' on a diet just like sugar, honey Come next Monday. I’m gonna give up on you 2. “Come Next Monday”Released: September 1990 Album: Love in a Small Town Peak Chart Position: #1
Total: 73 Average: 4.87 Std Dev: 3.78 (4th Lowest)

To no one's surprise, K.T.'s signature song "80's Ladies" wins in a landslide and comes in as our least polarizing song of the rankdown. All but two participants put this in their top 5, but even then not one but this outside of their top 10. This garnered five top rankings from myself, castleoblivion26, McCreerian, d3vin44, and Troublemaker. "Come Next Monday" was a solid top 2 competitor and even found its way at the top early on in the rankdown. I think most of us also consider this to be one of her signature hits as you can still hear it played on country radio even to this day. This picked up two top rankings from someguy and CoJoFan along with an impressive eight other top 5 rankings. Only two even dared to put this outside of their top 10.

Not surprised. "80's Ladies" is her signature hit. I think it's a decent song, but that outro is awful and I can't in good faith put it any higher than I ranked it due to that and I am still disappointed it won for that reason as well.

I guess I should give "Live Close By, Visit Often" another listen based on the love it received.
Happy to see "'80s Ladies" be #1 cause that one grows on me more every time I hear it!

Predictable but correct winner! I loved "80's Ladies" and can see why it won the CMA Award for SOTY. It was nice to get into some of K.T.'s discography as I likely wouldn't have ever gotten around to doing so myself--which is where this series was made to come in (from how you've described it in the past of course). Thanks for hosting tim !

I'd like to take this moment to thank all of the participants who came together to honor the great K.T. Oslin! Even though she started her career at the age of 45, K.T. blazed a trail and path for a younger generation of female country artists for decades to come and was an influence on early country music listeners just like myself. Thanks again y'all!

I like "80s Ladies" but honestly... this RD kinda made me realize I'm not really a fan of K.T's music outside of LCBVO. Don't get me wrong, she was a great talent, but her music kinda bores me I guess. Anyway, thanks for hosting tim

@tim
Thank you! Great job! Enjoyed all of the insightful comments. Has there ever been a Mary Chapin Carpenter rankdown? She has an amazing catalog with many many excellent tunes.

There hasn’t been one yet, but she is on my list of artists to cover and I think a rankdown like this one seems more suited for her discography rather than covering it in its entirety. Stay tuned!

"80s Ladies" is such a great song, and a rightful winner. I was hoping for "Come Next Monday", as that has always been my favourite KT song, but they were both my top 2, so I would have been happy either way. It was nice revisiting KT's biggest hits, unfortunately for a sad reason. Thanks for hosting tim. Thank you! Great job! Enjoyed all of the insightful comments. I will definitely be really looking forward to a MCC rankdown. I would love to see it be more than just 20-25 songs though. But I will happily participate no matter how it looks.

As a longtime fan of Mary Chapin Carpenter myself, I can promise you I’ll make sure that a rankdown for her isn’t underrepresented. I’ve actually had a playlist in mind for well over a year now, but I just never felt like there was a good time to launch it. I do plan on doing so sooner rather than later and I’d like to launch it sometime this fall/winter.

I've never really listened to her previously and while I'm not sure I'm gonna spend a lot of time listening to her going forward I did enjoy getting acquainted with her music. I also want to ask in regards to MCC that the singles from her Come On Come On album be fully recognized because there is not a bad song from that album and I know there were many singles from that album but some of my favorites are probably the ones that would be cut if you did cut some. Either way, I do look forward to that rankdown a lot!
