Here are the Closeness Stats for the previous set: Thirty Miles West:10. bboat11 - 2.77 Hmm, I'm surprised to see myself so low here. I got perfect rankings for the entire top 6, and most of the bottom half was within one position of being perfect, lol.

Thanks for the catch...I actually found the error and it was just a copy/paste flub as you and gardyfan both submitted back-to-back lol. Anyways, that means bboat11 comes in at #1 and gardyfan ties for 3rd with George Strait Junkie . I've updated the stats on the previous page! This is probably my best performance in a rankdown. Sorry to burst that bubble as there was a transcription error on my part. You still did very well though and tied for third!

Anyway, this album played out just about perfectly for me! I predicted the last spot in the top 5 would come down to a battle between "Look Her In The Eye And Lie" and "Talk Is Cheap". I did find both of those to be kinda filler-ish myself, but they were still memorable enough to do well on my own list. This album as a whole isn't going to do incredible on my album tracks rd list either (most of these songs will probably be more mid-tier), although I do at least enjoy everything. "Gonna Come Back As A Country Song" was far and away my favorite album track here. It's one of those timeless country jams that could have come out at any point in his entire career and been just as great, and also has just enough honky tonk flair to have worked for other artists that I love like George Strait and Terri Clark. I can't get enough of this one! "You go your way, c'est la vie sweet baby" is singlehandedly one of the most infectious melodic lines of the entire past decade of his career, and it is for that reason alone that I was rooting for "You Go Your Way" to be at #2 here over "Long Way To Go". LWTG is also great, but doesn't have any single moment that reaches the memorable status of that line. But we all knew the TRUE winner here was always going to be "So You Don't Have To Love Me Anymore". The songwriting here is absolutely brilliant. So many lines in this song hit me just right and make me feel every word.... The whole situation in which the narrator is basically volunteering to put his own feelings aside and be a jerk in their breakup so that she doesn't have to go through the messy business of missing him makes for a really captivating, heartbreaking song. Like, he's going to go on loving her, but at least he'll feel closure in knowing that he did everything he could to ensure that she no longer feels the same, and that is heartbreaking af :'( Thanks for hosting tim! I'm excited for the next set!!

Edit: Actually wait, B&D's Brand New Man was probably my best. I had perfect rankings for that entire album aside from switching the #5 and #6, lol.

The next two albums to be featured will be Alan's third studio album, A Lot About Livin' (And a Little 'bout Love), which was released in late fall 1992 as well as his sixteenth studio album Freight Train from 2010.
A Lot About Livin' (And a Little 'bout Love) is yet another single heavy album as five of its ten tracks were released as singles including "Chattahoochee", "She's Got the Rhythm (And I Got the Blues)", "Tonight I Climbed the Wall", "(Who Says) You Can't Have It All", and "Mercury Blues". This became his first #1 Billboard country album and has since gone on to be certified 6× Platinum by the RIAA.
Freight Train on the other hand is the opposite as only two of its 13 songs were released as singles, including "It's Just That Way" and "Hard Hat and a Hammer". This also happens to be his last album with Arista Nashville, the label to which he has been signed since 1989.
I've set the deadline for Sunday, May 23rd which is more than enough time to knock out the first album for sure. Y'all will of course have a bit more to time for Freight Train and I'll give a more concrete due date for that once that time comes.

A Lot About Livin' is definitely in his top 2 best albums for me, at least out of the ones that I know already. I've always loved this one Freight Train I've never heard in full, but the singles are definitely less than impressive, so hopefully it can bring us an album track winner. Super excited for this set!

The album itself is much better than what its two singles would lead one to believe. Considering that this was Alan's final album for Arista Nashville, I don't think there was too much of an investment into the era overall. There's one album track in particular that I think could find itself coming out on top, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens!

Agreed that A Lot About Livin' is definitely worth the listen; in fact, I already have a rough draft ready to go.
Haven't listened to the latter yet, but I've heard that Freight Train was moderately praised by critics despite the lackluster performance of the two singles (I'm actually reading some of those reviews now!). It'll be interesting to see if I find any missed opportunity tracks on there one I come around to that album.

Agreed that A Lot About Livin' is definitely worth the listen; in fact, I already have a rough draft ready to go. How fast time flies as this is y’all’s TWO WEEK REMINDER that lists for A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘bout Love) are due on Sunday, May 23rd.. As with Alan’s two previous, five of the albums ten tracks were released as singles so I’d think this would be a rather easy one to knock out. Given that, I’m not yet looking to extend the deadline so get started on this one as soon as you can! In regards to Freight Train, I’ll be allowing for a bit more time for this album. I’ll provide a due date for that album once the time comes around. Participants for A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘bout Love):1. tim 2. someguy Participants for Freight Train:1. tim

I know that there are an abundance of rankdowns open at the moment and so I want to make sure this one doesn't slip by anyone! The due date for both A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘bout Love) and Freight Train is starting to sneak up as I'd like to have all lists in by Sunday, May 23rd. That gives everyone just over a WEEK AND A HALF to complete them! A Lot About Livin' should be another easy one for y'all to knock out as five of the ten tracks were released as singles. Given that, I’m not yet looking to extend the deadline so get started on this one as soon as you can! In regards to Freight Train, I’ll be allowing for a bit more time for that one and will provide an exact due date for it once the time comes around. I’ll be posting a one week reminder here in a couple of days, but as we head into the weekend I just wanted to send out a reminder that this is due on SUNDAY, MAY 23rd and it has been nothing but crickets thus far (although we did add a third participant for A Lot About Livin’). Did I mention we’re quickly approaching that one week reminder?! Anyways, this weekend would seem like a good time to knock out at least one of these! Indeed it is a much better album than what the two singles would lead one to believe it to be. That said, this is your ONE WEEK REMINDER that lists for A Lot About Livin' are due on SUNDAY, MAY 23rd.
