Wow, what a tough crowd lol! Y'all have been incredibly quiet this weekend. Anyways...I'm going to go ahead and proceed with the final reveal this evening with or without you! Here are a few things you can expect to see as we head into the Top 5: - The top 5 consists of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th least polarizing songs
- Two of the songs are the most polarizing of the album
- Two participants still have their last place remaining
- The #3 song was actually a solid top 2 contender until it swapped positions with the final list
- Our #1 song only dipped outside of the top spot once
And just to recap, here are the Top 5 songs:
After 17 Big Green Eyes Freight Train Taillights Blue That’s Where I Belong

“That’s Where I Belong” bows out first as we kick off the top 5 and along with it takes a pair of top 2 rankings from someguy and 🌺CountryLineDancer. This was much better received than I was anticipating as it picked up four additional top 5s. In fact, all but two participants placed this within their top 7 leaving myself and .indulgecountry on the lower-end of the rankings. I did initially have this ranked a few spots higher, but upon each subsequent edit it ended up slipping back some. I can certainly see why y'all would enjoy this song as I personally enjoyed hearing it most when I was out driving along to it.

I'm actually a little baffled that “Big Green Eyes” ended up being the second most polarizing song because this just sounds like a hit to my ears. I wasn't alone in thinking that obviously as both bboat11 and ClevelandRox put this as their top-ranked song while myself, Cody Wants Out... , and Kris Kringle all put this in our top 2. This surprisingly picked up only one additional top 5 ranking with the remaining participants putting this closer to their bottom 4. And then we have gardyfan who ended up throwing the picture of the lady with those gorgeous eyes into the trash and placed this dead last. I don't about y'all but this sounds like such a missed single opportunity!

Both That's Where I Belong and Big Green Eyes are really strong songs, and would have been great options for radio singles. I didn't expect Big Green Eyes to be polarizing though! My #12 can leave now Edit: Prediction (aka my wish) 3 After 17 2 Freight Train 1 Taillights Blue

Hopefully gardyfan can shed some light on why he was inclined to put this dead last as again this sounds like such a missed single opportunity. We're all listening.

My #12 can leave now Ask and you shall receive!
Her memories she stowed away Pulls them out on rainy days And brand new faces take their place, beside the ones that never fade Shes strong and fragile, weak and smart Whatever the cost she plays the part 3. “After 17” Track: #3 Songwriters: Alan Jackson Total: 69 Average: 5.31 Std Dev: 4.01 (HIGHEST!) {Songs Remaining}Freight Train Taillights Blue

“After 17” bows out next which is a bit unfortunate considering that it was such a strong contender to finish in the top 2. Next to our #1 song, this was actually the strongest competitor as it picked up two top rankings from both someguy and Cody Wants Out... while also picking up a pair of top 2 rankings from bboat11 and kw9461. The majority of the rankings in fact came from within the top 5, so what ended up making this our most polarizing song you ask? Well, look no further than those three bottom 2 rankings from George Strait Junkie and ClevelandRox as well as a last place from 🌺CountryLineDancer.

Here are the Top 2!
Freight Train Taillights Blue
Will it be the album track for the win? Or will the pale blue glow of those taillights come out ahead? Stay tuned!

This is not bad lyrically, but the first part of the chorus melody sounded very off to me, and it was a big minus point (as I enjoyed this album overall), which caused this to end up being the last place in my list. Not a bad song by any means.

Well, considering that this is the most audience I've had for this album reveal I might as well do the grand finale

Wish I was a freight train baby, Wish I was a diesel locomotive I'd come whistling down your track crashing in your door. Wish I was a freight train baby, Wish I didn’t have a heart You need a shovel for the coal just to get me started 2. “Freight Train” Track: #5 Songwriters: Fred Eaglesmith Total: 64 Average: 4.92 Std Dev: 2.78 (4th Lowest)
They should have made tail lights blue So when I see them go They'll look the way I do Just a pale blue glow They should have made I can't stay Sound like I love you You know they should have made tail lights blue 1. “Taillights Blue” Track: #6 Songwriters: Jay Knowles, Adam Wright Total: 50 Average: 3.85 Std Dev: 3.02 (5th Lowest)

And there we have it folks as "Taillights Blue" joins the rare club of an album track coming out on top in an album rankdown (I forget which album tracks have won before so hopefully bboat11 can help us with that stat whenever he's back online lol). It was the clear frontrunner from the get-go as I placed this as my top-ranking song and was joined by three others including George Strait Junkie, kw9461, and Kanenrá:ke. If not for that one dip back one spot, it would've maintained its lead on top for the entirety of its run. Everyone in fact placed this somewhere within their top 7 with gardyfan being the lone dissenting participant to put this down in his bottom 2. Unlike "After 17" which departed one spot shy of the top 2, the title track was never a strong contender to finish as such as it pretty much maintained a steady run outside of that. Luckily though it picked up two #1 rankings with the final two lists from .indulgecountry and Kris Kringle which allowed this to slip in at the last moment. Both gardyfan and ClevelandRox placed this in their top 2 leaving the majority of the participants putting this somewhere within their top 7. The only ranking to come outside of that was from castleoblivion26 who put this down in his bottom 4.

“Taillights Blue” has a decent and safe melody, but I love the creativity in the lyrics! I thought "Freight Train" would be more polarizing. I usually listen to all the songs in the list twice to finalize my lists for RDs, and FT was my #11 at first. But somehow, it sounded far better in my second attempt, (and now as well). This type of fast-tempo songs are always refreshing to listen to. Assuming "Good Time" is coming next, and looking forward to ranking one of my favs by AJ that got somehow tanked in a year-end RD. Thanks for all the work tim

Thanks to all of the participants and to all of those that followed along for this set! I'm going to allow everyone that wasn't around for the Freight Train reveals the chance to catch up and offer any thoughts/comments should they want to, but you can look for the next two albums in the series to be launched soon.

But somehow, it sounded far better in my second attempt, (and now as well). This type of fast-tempo songs are always refreshing to listen to. I actually have to agree that this is one of those songs that sounds better with each listen. It's probably a bit more polarizing on that first listen, but there's certainly something about it that makes you want to revisit it and before you know it it's stuck in your head lol. It certainly performed much better than I thought it would going into this. Assuming "Good Time" is coming next, and looking forward to ranking one of my favs by AJ that got somehow tanked in a year-end RD. Thanks for all the work tim So, not to give too much away yet but I'm making one exception for the next two albums and will be going out of chronological order (at least for one of them). Considering the length of Good Time, I decided it would be best to pair up the albums a little differently and so you'll know shortly what those two will be

What a perfect top 2! This RD was a bit of a mess after the obvious #12, but we circled back around to a strong finish with the title track and "Tailights Blue" at the top where they belong. Granted, I had them in reverse order, but they're honestly neck-and-neckI for me in terms of enjoyment and both are career highlights imo.
I was worried -- as evidenced in my prediction answers -- that the title cut would be too polarizing to finish nearly this high, but I am so happy to be proven wrong on that guess! "Tailights" sounds like the most obvious hit single on the record to me, so I remain perplexed he never opted for that one at radio. He had several other solid options as well, but that one screamed #1 hit and if the painfully boring "It's Just That Way" could limp into the top 20, then he surely had enough momentum at that point to have a smash with something better. Instead, he put his radio career on the fast-track to irrelevancy. :/
