Welp, I missed the whole rankdown! 😂 But it went pretty much 100% the way I expected it would. "She Don't Get The Blues" was a very fitting last place finisher, and definitely one I am okay with not revisiting for the album tracks rd. It's a decent enough song, but I doubt it will hold up as a standout in his career as we get deeper into this series. I am disappointed to see "Short Sweet Ride" in the bottom 2 though :( That song was such a delightful piece of ear candy! A perfect '90s jam, lol. I found "Ace Of Hearts" to be a little off-putting, and I think that was because Alan's vocals are just so young and unseasoned here. It really doesn't sound like an Alan Jackson song, if that makes any sense. It's still a good song though. "Dog River Blues" was right up there with "Short Sweet Ride" in terms of being pure ear candy! I wasn't expecting much based on the title, but it ended up slaying, and will likely do very well on my list for the album tracks rd. "I'd Love You All Over Again" is such a beautiful song. I am not surprised to see it be the first single to leave, as the ballad melody is a tad on the bland side compared to all the uptempo jams on this album, but I do still love it a lot. "Blue Blooded Woman" is one of his most underrated bops! I literally like it more every time I hear it, even 30+ years after its release. I can't believe this is regarded as one of his bigger chart flops! "Wanted" should have been top 3... This is just classic Alan. The explosive chorus is iconic, and the lyrics are creative and memorable even if the premise of taking an ad out in the paper is now a little dated. Y'all know how I feel about songs called "Home" But tbh Alan's is one of the better ones! It's weird that of all the songs to become hits later one this is the one to do it, because to me this sounds more dated than anything else on the album... "Here In The Real World" has always just kinda plodded along for me. I do like it, but as somebody who loved nearly every hit of Alan's career, merely liking it was not enough for it to escape my bottom 3... "Chasin' That Neon Rainbow" is one of those iconic country jams that never ages and has zero burn rate for me! It's in the upper tier of his catalog to me, for sure! Very pleased to see it win! Thanks for hosting tim! Even though you used the word "irregardless".... I'm excited for Angels And Alcohol since our opinions will be much less influenced by radio!

I found "Ace Of Hearts" to be a little off-putting, and I think that was because Alan's vocals are just so young and unseasoned here. It really doesn't sound like an Alan Jackson song, if that makes any sense. It's still a good song though. That's a great observation because it also happens to be the only song on the album that Alan did not write or co-write himself. I'm not sure if this song happened to be passed up by any other male country artists at the time, but it does sound like something that maybe a Randy Travis, Keith Whitley, or even George Strait could've recorded back during that time. Thanks for hosting tim ! Even though you used the word "irregardless".... I'm excited for Angels And Alcohol since our opinions will be much less influenced by radio! I knew someone was going to give me the side-eye for using that and of course it would be you! Regardless, irregardless just sounded right in the moment Will do! It looks like I'm just waiting on you and Kris Kringle, so I'm happy to allow for a bit more time if need be. I'd like to get started this weekend if possible and might still launch the pre-reveal questions ahead of time, but I'll certainly hold off until y'all are able to complete it.

Happy to see that "Dog River Blues" was highest of the 4 album cuts. Such infectious 90's country ear candy. He's had a lot of great album cuts, but there's a pretty good chance it ends up in my top 5 of the album cuts rankdown.
The singles mostly played out like expected. I was hoping "Home" could sneak past "Here In The Real World" for #2, but it came up just short. "Wanted" is also a damn classic, and yet #4 is probably right given the strength of this album. Such an iconic debut album.

I also wanted to make a quick note that I went back over all of the albums the other day and finally got a better idea of how to approach Alan's album tracks rankdown. With that said, I decided to include a third song from Here In the Real World which I know will make bboat11 happy because that means "Short Sweet Ride" will be included! For those that like to make playlists ahead of time, it joins both "Ace of Hearts" and "Dog River Blues".

1. What will be #1? "Jim And Jack And Hank"!
2. What will be #10? Hopefully "Flaws", tbh.
3. Which songs will be in the top 3? JAJAH, "The One You're Waiting On", and "Angels & Alcohol".
4. Which songs will be in the bottom 3? "Flaws", "When God Paints", and "You Can Always Come Home".
5. What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most: "You Can Always Come Home". Least: "When God Paints".
6. Which of the two singles (Jim and Jack and Hank, The One You're Waiting On) will place highest? Lowest? They'll likely be the top 2, tbh. I'll say JAJAH takes the win though.
7. What will be the highest-placing album track? Title track, at #3!
8. Which four songs will advance to the album tracks rankdown? "Angels & Alcohol", "Mexico, Tequila and Me", "Gone Before You Met Me", and "You Never Know".
9. Any other thoughts or predictions? This is a good album, but I don't love many of these songs as much as I do songs from earlier in his career. Even my #1 here, I highly doubt would be my #1 on any other album. Still excited to see how it turns out tho!

Let's jump into Alan's twentieth studio album Angels and Alcohol which was released in 2015. It's almost hard to believe that it has been over five years since Alan has released a studio album! Hopefully he'll surprise us sooner rather than later with one. Anyways, enough with the rambling. I almost hate to say this, but someone loses their top-ranking song right out of the gate

Yeah, I look at my two eyes Left higher than the right I guess that's just the way I'm supposed to be I snore when I'm asleep, got long and lengthy feet The pieces of the puzzle that I am
Should never be ashamed, embarrassed or afraid Cause everyone has something they don't like Remember we're all made with water, dirt and grace We're all perfect in the eyes that see 10. “Flaws” Track: #8 Songwriters: Alan Jackson
Total: 118 Average: 8.43 Std Dev: 2.44 (5th Highest) {Songs Remaining}Angels and Alcohol Gone Before You Met Me I Leave a Light On Jim and Jack and Hank Mexico, Tequila and Me The One You’re Waiting On When God Paints You Can Always Come Home You Never Know

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise as it was predicted that "Flaws" would likely be the first song out. Unfortunately that comes at the expense of someguy as he becomes our first participant to lose their top-ranking song. This settled back into last place early on and once it did it didn't budge. Not even his ranking could save this one though as it picked up ELEVEN bottom 3 rankings of which seven were slotted in last place.

When God paints, the heart beats Life begins, a season ends and lovers meet And I've learned that sometimes It's not always black and white or well-defined
When God paints, we dance And I reach across the canvas and I take your hand And my world is so complete When I look at you, a masterpiece is all I see 9. “When God Paints” Track: #9 Songwriters: Troy Jones, Greg Becker
Total: 105 Average: 7.50 Std Dev: 2.14 (3rd Lowest) {Songs Remaining}Angels and Alcohol Gone Before You Met Me I Leave a Light On Jim and Jack and Hank Mexico, Tequila and Me The One You’re Waiting On You Can Always Come Home You Never Know

"When God Paints" was also predicted to leave within the bottom 3 and as such is our second song to exit. This was off to a good start thanks to Kanenrá:ke's initial top 5 ranking, but it was mostly downhill from there as it picked up its first of many bottom 3 rankings from myself. I was joined there by the majority of the participants as it picked up nine bottom 3 rankings including three in last place. It wasn't all doom and gloom though as it did manage to pick up two additional top 5 rankings from taylor is terrified and ClevelandRox.

So the moral to the story is you better be aware Love might hit you 'fore you ever know it's there So keep your motor running and keep it in gear Listen real close she might just whisper in your ear 8. “You Never Know” Track: #2 Songwriters: Alan Jackson
Total: 101 Average: 7.21 Std Dev: 2.49 (4th Highest) {Songs Remaining}Angels and Alcohol Gone Before You Met Me I Leave a Light On Jim and Jack and Hank Mexico, Tequila and Me The One You’re Waiting On You Can Always Come Home

The two-steppin' bop "You Never Know" is the final song to round out our bottom 3 which sees George Strait Junkie departing with his second top-ranking song. This had a bit of a rough start as it picked up its first of two last place rankings from Kanenrá:ke. From there it was never able to get enough support to escape the bottom 3 where it remained for the duration of its run. It did manage to get a couple more top five rankings from someguy and Troublemaker, but it was just never able to shake off the seven bottom 3 rankings it received.

Let's find out which two songs miss the Top 5! The next song comes in not only as our most polarizing song but will also see a second participant lose their top-ranking song.

You found a new love and I'd like to believe That you're really better off without me The good days have slipped away but I sometimes dream 7. “I Leave a Light On” Track: #7 Songwriters: Alan Jackson Total: 82 Average: 5.86 Std Dev: 2.80 (HIGHEST!) {Songs Remaining}Angels and Alcohol Gone Before You Met Me Jim and Jack and Hank Mexico, Tequila and Me The One You’re Waiting On You Can Always Come Home

"I Leave a Light On" departs us next and along with that ClevelandRox loses his top-ranking song. The rankings for this were quite varied as it picked up a pair of top two rankings from Kanenrá:ke and taylor is terrified along with three additional top fives. Only a few put this somewhere in the middle while at the other end we have four bottom two rankings. This ended up straddling the line just outside of the top five for much of its run only to dip one spot back towards the end. After all was said and done, this came in as our most polarizing song which may not have been on anyones radar.

The #1s keep falling as a third participant will depart with their top-ranking song next! The final song to leave before the top five was just as polarizing as the other as this came in with the second highest standard deviation.

I'm not entirely unhappy, 'cause sometime's life's crappy Make me wanna stop and run Take a three-day breather, sip a Margarita Drift away beside the sea 6. “Mexico, Tequila and Me” Track: #10 Songwriters: Alan Jackson Total: 81 Average: 5.79 Std Dev: 2.72 (2nd Highest!) {Songs Remaining}Angels and Alcohol Gone Before You Met Me Jim and Jack and Hank The One You’re Waiting On You Can Always Come Home

My condolences to taylor is terrified as they become our third participant already to lose their top-ranking song “Mexico, Tequila and Me”. It was their ranking that actually helped give this a boost to move up one spot towards the end of the rankdown. Just like our former song though the rankings for this were quite varied, although this one did garner more support as seven participants put this in their top five along with a top two from someguy (who might add has already lost two other top 5s including their #1). Not everyone was in agreement though as five of you put this in your bottom 5 including two last place rankings from George Strait Junkie and gardyfan. Despite this coming in as our second most polarizing song, this song performed well enough to now join the ranks in Alan's album tracks rankdown!
